I am jst starting to map. I starte at my mates house and am now configuring valve hammer editor 3.4. I am stuck, i cant find the file cstrike.exe (it has to have the .exe on it and not jsta desktop icon) i was wondering if anyone has any ideas where it would be??? Thanks : :(

The desktop icon you mentioned contains the path you need, look in it's properties to find it.

if your trying to set up for steam, im not sure how. my best advice would be to make all maps in WON, then move the finished .BSP to steam.

If you can't find cstrike.exe point it to a shortcut if you have one, or run a search on your computer

its not called cstrike.exe its the hl.exe in your steamappsusercounterstrikehl.exe, i use hammer (3.5 beta) but its all the same since cs is a mod for hl (really) but thats the one your lookin for its just as easy with steam, when you run the map if you have steam runnin it will start cs without a few things though like pistols n such and no team selecting it just starts on the first info_player_start, dont forget to select vis and rad on run options or youll have a laggy map ;P

i am using it for CS. i have now re configured it and it works until it gets to a window on cs 1.5 (because i cant get iyt to work on steam) where it says this

map change failed 'test 1' not offound on server

('test 1' is the name of the map)

i am really getting annoyed now because i want to start mapping but when i try to try out my map it wont work!!!!! :(

so can anyone help me with my problem????

well look you dont really need to run game after you compile it take that setting off on the run options and when its done compiling there will be a bsp of where ever you directed it to put finished maps (considering you dont have any errors on the map, it will make a bsp and then throw that in your maps folder in cs (if it aint already there) and go to newgame after starting up cs and look for your map in the dropdown list, and you should be playin your map in no time, but if your not useing zoners tools im not sure if it will still make the bsp, (i think it does even with errors) so dont forget zonerz stuff

the problem is that you put a space in the BSP name. just call it test1 or test_1

also, because you need the map in the cs/maps folder.

and set it up for steam, it's very easy, i posted a picture link that shows what you have to do, monkey's need to search teh forums.

i nkow its nothing to do with the post but that looks like a nice map... its very... very round and real looking... from the camera view anyways

i have done what you say peace and love bt there are two other thing i dnt get it is on the build programs tab on the configuration

it is the game executable and the place compiled maps in this directory before running the game :

ok, dude, don't use build programs, it's totally unneccesary (spellcheck), you shoudl compile with Batch Compiler anyway, when you're ready to compile a map, post in the forums and we'll help you set up your sh*t for compiling.

the "game executable" is your mod's .exe, like cs.exe, dod.exe, hl.exe

this is used for running the map as soon as teh compile is complete, this is not needed, and often causes more problems anyway, but teh correct folder would be:
C:Program FilesSteamSteam Appsyour@email.comcounter strikecstrikemaps

changes depending on teh mod.

but seriously, if you've set up your hammer like i showed in that pic, you should be good to go, rememeber don't follow mine exactly, just the last few lines have to be correct like:

SteamSteam Appscounter strike + - cstrike

you get me?

Oh and thnx for compliments on the map, yeah, I pride myself on vertex manipulation, even though I learnt all I know from a f**king master (DecoY^).
It's for Hostile Intent (1300 w poly and 6500 e poly limits! mappers paradise :D )
