Jahz, no way do you need ?2500 for a PC, you could get something pretty decent for ?500 if you built it yourself.

Everythings connected to the, motherboard! the motherboards connected to the, case! the case is connected to, your mum! your mum is connected to, 12 different men!

Buy Scott Mueller's "Upgrading and Repairing PCs", it's only about thirty-odd, excellent buy, and it'll save you money still if you decide to build it.

...or failing that get the guy who built mine and repairs it when in need to sort it out!

He'll be able to put XP on instead of crappy 98. Maybe then I'll be able to map in the new hammer.

Also, I dare say he'll be able to upgrade the system specs.

It's better to do it yourself. 'Less he chucks in free components?

ya it is.

its pretty fool proof seeing as if you just follow the directions that the many manuels come with youll have a working computer. and if you want e-mail or just post some detailed instructions.

Half-Life? is the GREATEST GAME EVER.

sorry i just beat it and had to get that out of my system

Wow this mod sounds awesome. Just read this thread from begining to end and watched it evolve from an awesome HL map, to a decent sounding HL mod, to an incredibly eerie sounding HL2 mod!

Using a 3d skybox for the perimetre wall. That would be terrifying. Thinking back to how the Citadel dominated C17 but now it's dwarfed out by a bloody solid wall around this City?! ARGH!!!
monster_urby monster_urbyGoldsourcerer
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-06 16:39:20 UTC Post #82077
Yeah that's right. A huge, dark, 'dam-like' perimetre wall that can be seen surrounding the entire city in the distance. There isnt even a formal entrance. To enter the city it has to be by air, that's how secure it is. Afterall would you want an entire population of zombies and dangerous criminals escaping into the outside world?
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-06 16:48:35 UTC Post #82081
Hell yeah! That would kick...

Erm. I mean no. How awful. :badass:

why did mean old valve put all the SDK in one download without giving the people the option to download just parts of it. its 200 somthing MB and i have dial up. i wish you could just download hammer 4 in one packet and all the other programs in seprate ones, that way i would accually have a chance to get it.

well anyways i will get it fairly soon and then i can start fully. but until them ill be busy coking up stuff for this mod.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-06 23:41:02 UTC Post #82154
MILLIONS OF ZOMBIES! That is all i can say...
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-07 09:44:52 UTC Post #82193
Well, I'm not happy about Valve anymore anyway. I hate what they did with ...... [spit]Steam[/spit], too much fame and fortune turned the half-life fatboys into money-grabbing spec-stripping evil people! They Steamified Hammer, now I cant even map for HL?! Now I have to spend lots of money to try and upgrade my computer just so I can map and play HL? smoothly. Man, I dont think I'll ever be able to map for it. The bastards. I hate you Steam! :badass:
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-07 09:56:40 UTC Post #82196
my hammer doesn't even work and steam suggests a total reinstall, something i refuse to do. it would take years..

No, I think I'll 'raid the Steam building!'
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-10 09:49:41 UTC Post #83006
want my gauss gun for that raid, i finished it yesterday. its fun to shoot stuff with it.

i will be getting steamefied hammer soon, but not soon enough, so all mapper id say comece mapping, make some buildings to be addded into the city later. modelers, make us some city inhabitants, zombies and gang members, both will be needed.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-10 11:57:05 UTC Post #83017
I don't like mapping for HL2. It aint the same. Its all just a case of props and physics. I'd rather build my prefabs that use a load of ready build models. :x

Plus the compile times!? JESUS!

I will only be releasing HL1 maps on this site because they are all i do. Maybe 1 or 2 helpful HL2 examples. Maybe...

Posted 19 years ago2005-01-10 12:26:39 UTC Post #83018
Yeah, all the brushwork went out the window with hl2.. my fav part of mapping :(
And the load times.. One could go insane for less.

I'm back to mapping for hl1 aswell man.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-10 12:57:25 UTC Post #83020
I like HL1 mapping anyway, you just cant beat good ole hammer!
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-10 14:32:13 UTC Post #83036
I don't think Hl1 mapping is ready to subside just yet :D

YAY!
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-11 09:56:27 UTC Post #83161
well start practicing if you can, this mod will be no where near as good in HL as it will be in HL?. we need to get skills. im getting hammer within a week or two so ill be able to start.

this could put our names on the map if it comes out good. it is a great idea and the source engine was built for stuff like this. HL1 mapping isn't going yet, but HL? mapping is here and we need to use the engine for this mod

and i liked bruch work to mini, but if the SDK comes with a free model making program then i don't care what i have to use to make my maps.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-11 11:41:44 UTC Post #83168
Thing is, I'd have to atleast upgrade my comp to map for HL?, which may take a while yet.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-24 23:47:31 UTC Post #85593
well Jahzel you can be th "executive consultant" on this mod. because i have had a epipheny. i have begun a story line that will make sure this aint no amature mod.

so like ive been saying practice up with those physics entity and the newer stuff. you will need that knowledge soon
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-28 10:04:40 UTC Post #86309
what did everyone just die all of a sudden?

and jazhel im almost done with the first chapter:

The Fallen

and after writing it(in more or less a book format, it was easyest for me) and rereading it, I just noticed the strage resemblance to OP4. this might just be the OP4 of HL?, just better then OP4 was.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-28 12:36:55 UTC Post #86326
This is an amateur mod since you've got no coders, modelers or animators.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-28 12:54:12 UTC Post #86328
Garg, well done, thanks ;)

ZL: I can't even map for HL? because those bootlickers known as Steam steamified hammer and made it impossible to map and play HL? with an avergae PC. Wankers.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-28 17:31:04 UTC Post #86398
but it won't look or seem like an amature mod. especialy the story. you would be very surprised how its turning out in my head and what im writing down
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-31 07:04:18 UTC Post #87220
I've had lots of experience with HL2 mapping and it's not that much different and you can still use as much brushwork as you want like me :P

Have you got a site for this mod? and whos doing it and do you need any help?

Weeeeeelll, maybe. I suppose I could act as a kind of, onlooker :
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-31 13:50:12 UTC Post #87280
Jhazel, i'm really not sure you've got an average computer. i can play fine, and i'm stuck on an old GeForce FX 5200 oc, and hl2 works fine. plus, its PCI. you can get that type of card for only ?70, and if you dont have a card thats better than what i've got i think you really do need a computer upgrade.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-31 17:28:19 UTC Post #87358
Ya, jahzel. you can onlook, improve, rate, sugest, etc until you get a new/upgraded PC. game chapters as follows, at least in the story im writing.

THE FALLEN
UNDERGROUND UNEARTHED
?(to be determined)
GANG WARS
HOLY CITY
FRIEND AND ANTI-FRIEND
RESOURCE DUTY
BREAKOUT
DESISIONS, DESISIONS

im going to send a sumerized story for each chapter to you Jaz as soon as i get it typed up. im about 3/16 done with the full story, most of which is in school notebooks to be typed up. I will garentee you that if the mod team can keep the quallity of the maps and the integraty of the story up it will look very profesional. when I began writing it I specificly made it so it
a. doesn't requre an army of new models and texture
b. makes sence
c. entertaining and fun

so far it meets all of those. ive left alot of stuff pretty scetchy in some parts, like "...and he walked four blocks...". this is so the mappers have alot of freedom. the story i will send out to the team just conveys generic details and important story/ fun part related info. you will be impressed by it when i send it out.

and by the way i think we should give out the improved book format with the game when its done so that players might be able to read it and know where to go, because its a big city and if you have to get some where you will have a berth of a couple blocks useually to walk through. so it won't be completely liner.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-31 17:40:26 UTC Post #87361
Wow, thats good of you to write the story. Excellent.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-31 17:47:46 UTC Post #87362
thanks, im 99% sure it will look very profesional.

and speaking of the story,
now that i have some of it written can i have someone on this team who has some experience mapping for HL? step up and be the first to get an assignment.

and Jaz I will e-mail you the bit i want someone to map for aproveal.

and since i designed this to not need a whole lot of new content it will have combine and such, but will all make alot of sense if the whole story was made available at this moument, but its not all typed up or written for that matter. but in my head i have gragg's jorney planed out from start to end. and you should also have an e-mail from me in a few days with the summary
