please i need a mapping trainer my mapps are usualy a piece of crap so can some of you please be a mapping trainer for me please in need to learn the ways i want to make good maps i have great ideas i just cant do them because my abilities suck please please (cry,cry,sniffle,sniffle)

Just...practice...a lot. That's how you get better at mapping.

Yes, tons of practice. But dedication is needed as well to create a nice map. Along with patience and time.

Na you dont need a mapping training. You just need: Strength courage bravery and patience!! Because maping can get very scarry and can piss you off a lot. All you need to do is read every damn tutorial on the internet and just keep on going. I mean I'v beendoing this for about 4 mounths now and i'm still crap!

practice does not have a s in it lol

practice is one of those strange words in english that doesn't really have a plural.

practices is its plural but is unneeded becasue of the definition of practice. in the way rabid used it, he would be correct.

the word practices is useually only used when reffering to things like...
"medical practices"

I don't know what the exact term for that is in english though.

From what I can tell it really depends if you're using a more americanized version of English, or if you're in Britain or something of the like - Although the language is the same, there are some differences.

americans use practice, we use practise. we don't need no second C.

Like it matters all too much. Although as an american I have to say practice is the best way.

Excuse me, Fox, I think from your posts it's pretty obvious that I can type better English than you.

The noun is 'practice', i.e. medical.

The verb is 'practise', for example "practise your spelling" :P. You obviously can't have a plural noun, just can have stuff like "he practises".

Oh, and gargantua, the term is a "mass noun", like 'water' or 'data'.

Well, you're in the right place. But, as the people above have said, you need to practice on your own using tutorials and specific forum requests to get better. I have a graveyard filled with countless failed/incomplete test maps from past mapping sessions, and you will too. I guarrantee you that if you keep testing things and look at TONS of tutorials, you'll generally find out what you need to know to do the neat things you're dreaming of. Here's the biggest tip I can give: picture your dream map in your mind. Now, lock it away in a box and throw the key into a very dark place, because it is FOLLY to attempt your craziest/most complex ideas in mapping with just a handful of experience. In other words, DON'T try making your dream map until MUCH, MUCH LATER, after you have the knowledge necessary. Heck, I'm still in the planning stages of my castle, and I've been wanting to build that since I started mapping three years ago (Sadly, HL1's Hammer virtually died trying to process my first attempts).

Keep it up, I know you'll be doing great work sooner than you think!

But on-topic, just learn by yourself. That's how we probably learn how to map, right? Also, experiment! Try new ideas and create test maps to test your ideas! Just because everyone else does one kind of map doesn't mean the other kind is worthless. Oh yeah, be creative too!
