Lab11_LavaLab is almost finished - or, perhaps more accurately, almost ready to be placed online so you guys can, uh, tear it to shreds! :) As always, if any comments come through that I think are worth applying I shall do so. For now, though, I already have a few things which I need to add, to make it as complete as possible before I unleash it.

We had our initial play-test session last Tuesday. My very first thought was that it is way too big - certainly too big for two players, which is often all we can pull together to play the darn thing! This should not have been any surprise - after all, I've maxed out on clipnodes several times, and have been struggling to keep it under the max leaf count -- and yet, somehow, the fact that I was remaking my first (and smallest) level had me thinking it would be, well, small. Go figure...

I think once we learn our way around it, it won't seem quite as bad, but I still suspect it really needs four players or more to be worth playing. Which really is a shame, because we've been pretty excited about its release for a while now. On the bright side, though, I already know how I'll be reducing (while at the same time, expanding) the playable area in Lab11_Erupt; it will be a lot more open, like Mausoleum.

So after a couple weeks of fucking around with it, I finally got my car back.
I had a problem with it stalling and eventually I heard a lovely knocking noise. Seemed as though the Supercharger was out. =/
Well come about half a week later, new supercharger! Yeah well turns out the supercharger WASN'T the problem and the motor was just plain out...
So 2 weeks and 900+ in lovely green USD, I finally have my car back.

Oh and my friend put his school books on his roof and drove off... smart guy lemme tell ya...

Hey Kids, Its Story Time!

Due to extensive research done by the University of Pittsburgh, diamond has been confirmed as the hardest material known to man. The research is as follows. Pocket-protected scientists built a wall of iron and crashed a diamond car into it at 400 miles per hour, and the car was unharmed. They then built a wall out of diamond and crashed a car made of iron moving at 400 miles an hour into the wall, and the wall came out fine. They then crashed a diamond car made of 400 miles per hour into a wall, and there were no survivors. They crashed 400 miles per hour into a diamond traveling at iron car. Western New York was powerless for hours.

They rammed a wall of metal into a 400 mile per hour made of diamond, and the resulting explosion shifted the earth's orbit 400 million miles away from the sun, saving the earth from a meteor the size of a small Washington suburb that was hurtling towards mid-western Prussia at 400 billion miles per hour. They shot a diamond made of iron at a car moving at 400 walls per hour, and as a result caused two wayward airplanes to lose track of their bearings, and make a fatal crash with two buildings in downtown New York. They spun 400 miles at diamond into iron per wall.

The results were inconclusive. Finally, they placed 400 diamonds per hour in front of a car made of wall traveling at miles per iron, and the result proved without a doubt that diamonds were the hardest metal of all time, if not just the hardest metal known to man.

Bought a new PC few days ago. Heck, it was about damn time i did that.
The old machine was slowly falling apart. It was giving me a headache, especially when i needed some work done, and it just refused to work.
Now i'm able to play orange box games, but since i got back to my dorm, i can't play them online. (Ports are blocked)
Although i was able to play TF2 for a few hours, just before going to sleep and moving here. (Sadly Dauby's server was down)

Here are the specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3,16 Ghz
4 GB DDRII 800
500 GB HDD
Gigabyte 9600GT 512 MB

Old specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (1,4Ghz)
512 MB RAM (DDR 400)
160 GB HDD
GeForce FX 5200 (At first, but it died like half a year ago, so i used a GeForce 2 MX 400 until now)

http://www.maxpaynethemovie.com/US/index.html

The nightmares with the Valkyrs look like something you would see in Doom 3, and Jim Bravura is played by Ludacris (wtf.)...but I really hope they don't fuck this one entirely up. It seems to follow the storyline of the game much more, than any other video game adaptation to date, and I'll definatly go see it.

Please Fox, make it worth all that money.

Looks like I have to stop beings such a pirate. :( As well, I'm getting to a point where things are now going to involve money, and yes, its illegal in the first place, but I don't want to be the guy who gets his reputation ruined, especially in the competition of the real world.

Geo (president dude of the GDC) is going to give the speech at the next meeting saying that if you can't take the heat, gtfo of the kitchen, and if they quit, all submitted work is forfeit, and if the quitters show the work they did as being a part of the club, he will hunt you. He was very serious, and surely the right guy for the position too. :D He privately asked me to download Blender and Gimp and make something to boost the morale of those still standing after he verablly castrates everyone. He knows I could do it, and if anyone needs it, I can demo the stuff to the group.

This doesn't stop me from pirating stuff for personal use. As long as I don't use it to make any money, or use it professionally for that matter, I think I should be fine. From my understanding of Gimp, it has the basics necessary for texture painting. I've grown past a lot of the Photoshop specific junk anyway and I'm applying more skill/concept based approaches, which is applicable to any program with layers and tablet input.

I learned a lot today. If you've read this far haven't thought tl;dr I got something for ya.

I also found the glory that is Google Sketchup. Thats Ketchup is an S. It. Is. Amazing. It make environment previs and layout retardly simple, and its 3D. But not like the kind of Maya or Max 3D, this is so simple I've deamed it to be the 3D MSPaint. And its completely FREE! I would recommend using it for planning maps carefully and showcasing the work in the forums for feedback long before you start mapping. I may write a short tutorial for this in the future if it gets picked up. There is a wealth of online download free objects and resources, as well as it can export image files in DWG and other vector types. It can render in perspective or in a orthographic view like side, top, and front. The top is perfect for seeing the exact layout of the map. I see it as a tool that can greatly help even an innexperienced mapper. Its nearly easier than MSPaint to use. If you can click and draw shapes, you'll do fine.

I have some things I have to do this weekend. I was going to touch up on 6D, but the attention on that will likely be saved until after this semester is done for me. I have a lot on my to-do list and I know I'm spread a bit thin at the moment. Bare with me, I haven't forgot about 6D, and I've set some time aside for it for the upcoming week, just not this weekend. Sad, we've made it so far and its getting pushed down.
