Twhl is not what it used to be. I mean, yeah the website does a great job in tutorials and competions etc, but the PEOPLE seem to have changed.

I dont like it. Not at all.

Where are the days where you would post a map and people would be so kind and helpful with feedback and positive things to say- even if the map was pile of turd. Nowadays you will be lucky to get a 'err, n00b mapper, learn to map' comment. Reading with your eyes closed is more informative and helpful.

But seriously people, of course there are the exeptions, i know of the long term mapping gods of this website are still around, keeping a watchful eye on events. But the sheer volume of jeb ends who are now plaguing this community. Why cant we all just get along?

Wey, thats my opinion.

Should've seen it back when I joined the site. ;) - Ant

Step #1 achieved. I have broadband again. Step #2, buy parts to build new PC.

I will be around this weekend if anyone wants to frag some HL1 maps. I have enough PC to do that much. :/

(ATTN: This might be informative to all experienced mappers.)

I just replayed PQL (Project quantum leap)

For those of you unenlighed folk among you, PQL was a VERC project back ciara 2002. It gave birth to many awe inspiring maps, including one of my all time favorties, Someplace else.

after playing it again, and seeing how much fun I have, my quick shift to heavy gameplay over graphics idealology has been cemented.

now, im not saying that fun killbox's are all that great. There should be an accepted standard of visual effect. Especially if an area needs to convey a point.

Now while some mappers are extremely gifted in being able to churn out maps of extremely high prettyness quickly, we all can't do that. For those of us who can't, design a fun level.

This is especially important for SP. All the things like texturing, lighting, ambience, gameflow, placement, story, combat, and area design need to be considered. most of those are visual sadly. those who excel in the texturing and lighting department might awe us with pretty walls. Those with brushwork skill and creative texture useage might awe us with detail. but that awe can quickly wear off is gameflow and all the other design elements are lacking.

I will continue this rant tomorow, as well as post a PQL mirror, since the only ones seemingly still availible are pay site only ones.

I haven't been mapping for 2 months now. My brother is working on something so you can look forward to another sweet horror map sometime soon(month from now?). I have two big projects that I have to plan out, so it's going to take sometime to get it all done. Then there is the game I've started working on and long classes, so major delays all around.

Never thought it would happen but source is just too Sexeh1337 to just watch pass by. I must loose my Source mapping virginity. Time to get training.

Well after I get the sodding camera to work. As for now, my Night Elf needs levelling. :D

I am but recently recovering from losing all my computer hardware and software to a fire. I have now experienced something even worse than 56k.

This thing I am now using, barely qualifies as a computer, but it will have to do until I build my new rig.

Funny how a fire will set your priorities for you.

[EDIT] linky to thread for details.

Here are some doodles I did during my programming lecture on thursday instead of paying attention XD

I really rushed these, so please excuse the crudeness of them:

Im also planning to do a total walkthrough VIDEO tutorial (split into parts) through the steps of modeling a face using polygon extrusion, setting up the UV map with some really awsome FAST techniques, Creating the skin for it in Photoshop from SCRATCH, applying the skin to the model, and finally exporting it and getting it in-game.
