satchmo satchmo“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. -- Samuel Beckett”
I set up my old computer for my son this afternoon. I was teaching him how to type.

Eventually, it'll be his computer exclusively, and he'll learn how to play simple games on the computer and learn how to use the mouse and write his first novel.

I wrote my first book on that computer.

Awesome. Wish I had my own computer when I was that young. Actually, I remember my dad traded a push mower for some sort of beige-box green-screen machine when I was around 4 years old, but he never set it up because it was basically useless for us. I had fun on our word processor though. :P

Today games, tomorrow world domination. You set him up with Unreal Tournament yet? Train him everyday and you have yourself a new fatality.

It's good that you're teaching him the essential skills early. Sure, computers in school will be boring for him because he already knows everything, but he'll get great grades!

'Give him your pc and buy yourself a new one so he can play hl1 and hl2 straight away!'
He's not quite old enough to be able to play HL1 or HL2 well yet, he needs to get used to the basic computer scheme first. Plus I'm not sure there's content control on HL2. After all, you would'nt want to traumatize him with lots of blood, gibs, and swearing at such a young age, would you?

When I'll have a son, the first computer for him will be my old pentium2.

I'll teach him computer basics on that computer, and I'll let him start with some old DOS games from 1992> ( I think even dune2). Especially sims, like sim city 2000, a very good dos game would be settlers2 maybe ... games like the incredible machine... generally, games that would develop his mind.

How old is your son, satch ?

And what you have there, satchmo, is a genius.

I don't know about Raver, but I made one when I was one. Five years before it was released. That's how good I am.

He's 21-month-old.

My old computer is a Athlon 3200+ XP with 2 GB of RAM and Radeon 9800 Pro card.

It's old, but not too shabby.

It can play HL2 and other Source games without a hitch.

Actually a pretty smart technique of satch, since kids absorb about anything in there younger years.

On a related note my 8800 died and now I'm saving up for that same card (GTX 260). I haven't been able to play L4D and that is very annoying :(

Sega's Typing of the Dead for win. Are you u using a babymouse/board program to limit keboard and merge the mouse buttons, to make it easier for him?

I restricted my lappy using basicmouse/basic board (trial version) and my three-year-old niece played YO GABBA GABBA games online for an hour without crashing my computer. Most of those kiddie flash games just use the arrow keys and/or the mouse. You can also define a "clickable" area or in other words, the mouse will only work in the gaming window and nothing else(without restricting keyboard/screen and merging mouse buttons, she opens up a million windows and crashes my machine in about 2 minutes flat).

Captain Terror that is both rather interesting (didn't know stuff like that existed) and hilarious! :-D
