Edit: So I passed my university second year. Respectable marks ranging from 48-70 and the max is 100 so yeah. I knew I'd pass but I wasn't sure if my essays would get a decent mark so yeah. Woo me etc.

Original Post:

So I get an email.

Hi William,

I was looking through your blog and was wondering if you would be interested in covering the launch event for DICE?s (an Electronic Arts Inc. studio) upcoming release of ?Battlefield 1943? ? a FPS available through Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network (out on the PC later this year)

The event takes place this Thursday in Covent Garden. If you are interested in coming down and reviewing the game, please drop me an email as soon as you can, so we can book you a place (fairly limited at this stage). You will find more information on the game below.

Please let me know if you would any further information.

Have a good evening,

Well, so far this "YASIR" is not asking upfront for any personal information details or even mentioning some kind of "fee" that you need to pay to go to this "event".

I can't see a big harm replying to his email at this stage. Now, once you get an answer from your reply and he all of a sudden starts to ask for personal details and/or for you to wire him a "retainer fee" so he can secure your spot to this event, then watch out, it's most likely a scam.

One question: Did you recently filled out some kind of online (or offline) form related to this supposed event, or even posted on any other forums on where you live?

No, nothing of the sort. I didn't post the details below but he pasted the description of the game etc etc. And then this:

To me it seems like this is a sort of spread the word event and they're asking the little people to come and try out their game and spread the word on their websites. I think they hired this Brando Social to spread the word and promote the game. I think I might go. I'll reply as you said and see what I get.

Just follow your instincts then, if something does not feel right, be careful. But if you see and feel it's legit, then go for it and have a fun for all of us!

Thanks for the advice. I replied and asked if I could take a friend so we'll see.

The friend said he'd have my babies if he can go.

The guy replied with an attachment of the invitation and said:

Hi William,

I have attached the event invite with venue details of the event. It should be fine for you to bring someone along (I will confirm this tomorrow).

When you have a moment could you drop me an email with your contact details please?

Have a good evening,

Yasir

As long as it's legit, you should be fine.
Or maybe it's a scam to break into your house when you're gone.
411 site, anyone?

Wow, neat. Sounds like fun.

Note-to-self: start a blog. Though I don't see where I can possibly get invited to down under. >_>

48-70? If I got that I'd lose my scholarship lawl. ^_^ congrats on passing!

Hehe. When I saw your results I thought the grading system was weird because a D is pretty fail up here :)

I have an Aussie cat! His name is Pilchard.

Now I'm out of blog ideas.
Commented 15 years ago2009-07-08 07:32:49 UTC Comment #44423
Now 48-70.. what's considered average?
Because here in the USA, average grades are 75% out of 100, and if you get anywhere below a 65%, you fail.
Commented 15 years ago2009-07-08 18:44:24 UTC Comment #44419
For my course it seems to be around 30% which sounds great but doesn't mean I'd slack off.
Commented 15 years ago2009-07-08 23:08:02 UTC Comment #44412
lol.. at my uni you need 50% overall to pass. quite a few people fail.

just to clarify, a D is between 75 and 85 and a HD is 85 upwards. at my uni anyway, it differs from uni to uni.

i need to keep above 70 average to keep my scholarship otherwise i need to start paying for uni :(
