So I'm thinking about getting a gaming console.

The kind of games I like is obvious - 1st person shooter games (or 3rd person such as GTA). I'm into games such as sims, and well, I can pretty much learn any type of game there is within reason.

I'd like to know what y'all think, because so far I'm leaning mostly towards a Wii.

I wouldn't get a Wii (if I didn't already have one). There's really no decent games for it. If you want the most games available, the obvious choice is the 360, but if you want a bit more functionality on the hardware side you might want to think about the PS3.

The best way to go about it is to see which games you want to play on each console, and get the console that has the most games on your list. Most games are multiplatform (at least most of them are released on both Xbox and PS3) nowadays anyway. Also, if you plan on playing online, you have to pay for Xbox Live, but you don't have to for the Playstation Network.

Personally, the only exclusive game (meaning that it only gets released on one of the three consoles) that I'm currently interested in is Uncharted 2, for PS3.

I wouldn't get a Wii if you're mostly into first person shooters, there aren't many on that platform. There's a good selection of them on both the 360 and the PS3, but I'm not sure which of the three consoles has more sim games.
Personally I think that the controller for the 360 is easier to use than the PS2, as the controls that are used the most often (the left thumbstick and the face buttons) are placed where your thumbs sit comfortably, while with the PS3, the left thumbstick is plaaced lower and closer to the middle. If you do want to get a Wii, I know that it's a good idea to have some free space around you. Also, on my Wii I've had some problems with the controller, it has to be held a certain distance from the screen at all times, or the cursor seems to shoot across the screen randomly. However, I don't know if the motion plus attachment fixes this. It might even be only a problem with my one.

[Edit]
I didn't know that you don't have to pay for online play with the PS3, that could also be a deciding factor.

I think PS3 and Xbox 360 are pointless. A PC is much better and can do everything a PS3 or Xbox 360 can. Wii has something unique, its controller. DS and PSP are portable and also lets you play GBA, NES, SNES etc. games. There are many "homebrews" for PSP and the PSP is great for watching movies but I think the its controls are bad.

My experiences with Wii have been good, and there's a new company (High Voltage, I think, too lazy to double check) that's making some good FPS games. Also, apparently the Sims 3 is being released on Wii as well, but that's just a rumor.

I know the talk here is about FPS games, but allow me to point this out: The one area that the Wii is the strongest and blows away both the Xbox360 and PS3 are the "exercises games", like the Wii Fit games. I know these are not exactly the normal mainstream games that console gamers are used to, but none the less it's probably the reason wy the Wii's installed base is about 5 times bigger than it's competitors. Heck, I myself got a pretty good cavervascular workout one day using my sister's Wii balance board.

PS3, great gaming system, and not to mention it has the best/fastest blueray player on the market! Why does everyone like Xboxs! I cant standthem, no offence.

But yes, that said, PC is the ultimate!

@ Unbreakable: According to the professional review on the LG BD300 by Kris Deering over at Home theater magazine publication, LG's first generation BLU-RAY player the BD300 is the fastest BLU-RAY player on the market. The Playstation 3 is no longer the fastest BLU-RAY player since the LG BD300 is about 5 seconds faster loading BLU-RAY's including intense java encoded discs. So the LG is the new reference player for speed. The Panasonic players are the overall best players for picture and a sound quality.

Be careful there Unbreakable, that's fanboy talk.

Wow, Tito. Are all the big companies paying you to sell their junk?

It sounds like that, uh?, I wish it was so though, since I would be putting to use my sales training I got from collage. Anyway, don't you think when somebody say that something is the "best/fastest" of anything, should at least be accompany with some collaboration or backup or proof or at least something?

Now, coming back to what I said earlier about the PS3 and Unbreakable's remark, don't get me wrong, Unbreakable was not completely off the mark, and if I made it sound like he was a lying, I'm apologize then, I did not mean that. I do like the PS3 and I still think it's in the top 5 best BluRay players in the world in it's price range.

I rented a wii, and so far I agree with those who said it isnt all that great - the only 2 games I actually like so far is the bowling on Wii Sports, and Tiger Woods PGA '10 (rented from Family Video)... I think in 2 weeks when the wii is due, it's going back.

EDIT 1: And besides, my rist and arms are starting to get sore LOL!
