If you put a butterfly in a cage, it does not belong to you.

If you let the butterfly out of the cage, and it flies away, then you never truly owned it.

If you let the butterfly out of the cage, and it flies back to you, only then, does it truly belong to you.

It could be argued that I deserve the butterfly because I worked to catch it.

Deserving the butterfly, and owning it are separate things.

If the butterfly is kept in your possession by force, then how much is its possession actually worth? And is it truly your possession?

Don't delete it.
"If the butterfly is kept in your possession by force, then how much is its possession actually worth? And is it truly your possession?"

If the butterfly is in my possession, then it was worth the effort I put forth to capture it at the very least. Otherwise I wouldn't have it.
It could be argued that the effort I put forth, alone, justifies my possession of it.

I totally owned a butterfly at TF2 the other day.

If someone steals a butterfly you put in a cage, can it be called theft?
What if you were given the butterfly and therefore no effort was put forth?

If it was a gift, does it not belong to you?
Commented 10 years ago2009-11-09 05:32:03 UTC Comment #55499
Or if it was not truly owned by the person giving it as a gift, is it really theirs to give?

How have your friends not gotten bored of being annoying? It took my friend 2 logins.

My friend got bored of being annoying before he even got round to joining TWHL so that he could be annoying.

As you can see, the phrase doesn't hold true under most conditions.

This is kinda deep in a pretty pointless way.

It's not pointless. This is how you learn to analyze things.

Well, I wasn't b& but I was moderated. That greatly upsets me, because I DO like cake. Also, this would be my 2nd login.
