There is nothing Valve can do right now (with the exceptions of canceling episode 3 and/or deleting my steam account) that would piss me off.
First they have a free TF2 weekend.
This causes one of my friends to invite me to his place to play TF2 with and against him.
We hook up my computer to his home network, and I can update steam and download TF2. In the process, I also download HL2, Lost coast, The SDK, and Steam HL.

Aside from a few problems with the more advanced shaders in HL2, and TF2 sometimes going black except for the HUD, the source games work perfectly.
Fast forward to now- I'm home, and I'm almost out of the mines in my HL2 save. :D Ravenholm is less scary than I thought it would be.
TL:DR;
Free TF2 weekend causes JeffMOD to go to a friends' place, Now he has HL2 on his computer and in a playable state.
Expect a basic source map within the next month or two.

Ravenholm was a lot scarier when it was first released - before you knew everything about it thanks to mapping communities :P

Ravenholm was never scary. I thought it was one of the worse parts of the game.

Ravenholm was creepy and slightly uncomfortable, but not really scary.

My favorite part of the game was re-entering City 17

Ravenholm was horror done "the Valve way". It's not a closet monster area, it just paints a pretty grim scenario and throws you in the middle of it. Too much horror would have been against Valve's style, I think.

Congrats on finally joining the Source side. ;)

I think the definition of horror is to let you think about it.

Strider: Thanks. Although I'm suprised Urby hasn't come to yell at me about source being "the devil's engine" ;)
hotdog: Yeah, pretty much. And I'm looking forward to being in City 17 again. In the middle of entanglement now.

Also, I'd like to say here, in case anyone cares, that Colony 42 will still be finished (I hope) and that having source does not affect it in any way, with the possible exeption of borrowing a few area layouts and ideas.

Ravenholm was great for the puzzle aspects. But I hated it because I would ran short on ammo at the end. Yeah its not that scary.

However after that, I rather liked the bored snipers.

Source is the Devil's engine. :)

The original Ravenholm had some neat trap ideas like the grenade under the blue bin.

Ravenholm actually used to scare the shit outta me. =[
I always loved the level, but still hate playing it cause it always gets me. The blood-curdling screams of the fast zombies, and then watching your HP go down to 1 as you get hit by a poison headcrab with its rattling tail noises... oh christ.

yeah, but i wish poison crabs stayed in ravenholm. Back in C17, they're annoying as hell.

I thought Ravenholm was very interesting, didn't find it as scary as say, the garage area in Ep1.

Its fun playing Ravenholm on hard difficulty, and get through it using only the gravity gun.

Ravenholm was scary in the way Resident evil 1 was scary. Low ammunition, a freaky, abandoned and bloodied area, and zombies jumping out here and there. Not quite like RE was, but certainly suspenseful for me the first time round.

I quite admired how they drew the players attention away and setting them up for a nasty little surprise at the same time. Like right at the beginning, where that tire swing is. I walked right on over there, somewhat mesmerized by it, and began playing with it. I hadn't even realized there was a zombie around there till it started attacking me. Or that part when you first see those fast zombies jumping around on the roofs above. Whilst watching them, I was completely oblivious to the one that comes right at you. That gave me a real jump when I heard their scream and my screen began shaking from it's attacks.

Yeah, Valve has a very suspenseful and carefully thought out approach at horror. As a result, I think its much less scary the second time around, while most games sacrifice a complex approach to horror, to one that tries to make the character jump every time.

You should all play the hl1 mod, "mistake".
Not that's very scary, but there's also a weird factor that gives you chills.

Ravenholm never scared me. Until one day...

I was playing through HL2 again, (this only really happens if I have made some new skins) and I was at a particular place in Ravenholm where I knew I was about to be attacked by 2 fast zombies. So this time, I closed the door, and waited for them to burst in, shotgun at the ready. Then CRASH! Down they come through the fucking skylight windows behind me. Shat a brick. Very nice scripting by VALVe.

Ha, that happened to me the first time I played it.
I was expecting two additonal zombies to burst in the second time I played through it, but I had already killed them.

And TF2 has working bots in beta right now. You can play king of the hill and attack/defend maps with bots.
