You may not be seeing much of me for a while.
The reason? I'm getting highspeed.
Now, you might be thinking "That's great, JeffMOD, but why would that stop you from coming here?" The answer is because it's a "mobile internet stick" designed for laptops, and to supplement a highspeed connection at home.
The usage limit is 512MB a month.
And the dialup, which is unlimited, is going to be canceled.
It's not like I have much of a choice, a 3 year contract was signed while I was at school.
What's this mean for me? Rationing of my browsing, and faster video load times and download speeds. Not that I can make too much use of them without torrents to pause downloads so I don't deplete my monthly usage.
:(

512mb won't last you a week let alone a month.
What a dumb contract.

512mb won't last you a day. I'm downloading a 12 GB movie, that would take you at least two years to complete? Shit...

512MB a month? Half a gig a month?! You'll run through it in a week!
I hope you're not paying too much.

@ potatis_invalid: Downloading a 12 GB movie? What movie could possibly be that big in size? Is it a Blu-ray ISO file?

No, but it's is in high resolution. I have The Dark Knight in 1080p, 30 GB.

Soup Miner: It's around $30, plus $10 or so (I think) for every MB past the 512.
I told my parents I'd run through it in less than a week, too. So, I have to ration my browsing and watch what I download. For 3 years.
Nobody ever listens to me, even though I use it the most. It's just all about bloody cost.
And today I found out that just $15 more a month, and we could have gotten unlimited use from an ISP that seems much more reliable and faster.

At least I still have dialup intil the damn thing arrives.

$30/month for 512mb?

Link or it didn't happen.

seriously, that's robbery.

Seriously.
Road Runner averages 45 USD per month, and that's arguably the best ISP out there.

I agree with Huntey, I don't believe that a plan this retarded actually exists.

tell your parents that's child abuse, i mean, really.. i don't know what's worse, being severely limited with broadband or unlimited with dialup...

It's like burn me or drown me: i can't decide which is more horrible.

The dialup is better, because I can use it as much as I want.
And it's real, it's from Telus mobility.
We can upgrade ro 1GB a month, but that's an extra $5, and I don't think my dad would go for that unless I can prove I need it.
Welcome to the bullshit world of Canadian Internet.

I'm thinking about upgrading my broadband service sometime this year. it's currently at 512k, which gives me an actual average download speed of about 52k whenever I download something. For now, When I do upgrade, I will start with a 5mb speed service which will cost me about $50 a month. Of course, the one I really want is the max service of 25mb broadband speed, but my ISP wants $229.95 a month,....OUCH!
