Why is Ati so popular among fans, and Nvidia seems to have lost the leading?
I think for reasons like this. The future of displays. Surround displays. The fact that they are inspired by Ati, not Nvidia. Altough Ati still sucks at drivers xD.

Yeah I'm with ya with the drivers. Still stuck at 9.12 (can't map on Windows 7 but is possible on XP) due to artefacts when watching movies. Small issue but would rather get rid of it than live with it. (9.12 and above have the artefact problem.)
nVidia may have lost the lead but you have to admit, they are still leading in the power they get from their GPU's.

I used to have ATI (9800 Radeon), but poor driver support made me switch.
Nvidia has been treating me well ever since. I have had my GeForce 260 GTX for a year and half now, and it's still running great. I can't believe that it's still running all my games at max settings a year and half later.

I've noticed poorer performance in Goldsrc and Hammer with Nvidia compared to my older ATI card. I only switched because Nvidia still supported openGL, but now I regret switching from ATI. I also got better filtering in Flash through ATI.

Even though I can map now for Hl1, I still have poor performance in hammer 3D preview and especially in hl1 in big maps. But it's acceptable, it doesn't drop under 20 fps I guess...

Now, I can't say I love them, but I don't exactly love NVidia either. End of the day, as long as my shit keeps working I really don't care.
