MAC owners. More money than sense it seems. :/

On top of this, my friend has an iPhone and had to replace his headphones recently because they got a little damp in the rain. I'm talking the nasty little earplug headphones, not some big, sound enhancing headset.

Cost to replace the flimsy things? ?20!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Apple can eat a dick.

Don't say that to our mac-loving friend, who has just spent god-knows-how-much on a shiny new mac pro!

While most of this is quite true, I will argue that Mac OSX is relatively proprietary and CANNOT be installed on just ANY old PC. You need to have certain things for certain versions. I have all the BRANDS in my PC to run make, but not all the right MODELS. Yeah, fuck that.

Macs are for rich people, and most of us don't belong to that category.

Macs are for people who either don't know any better.

Yeah, those prices are shitty.
Slightly on topic, how much is an average sized LCD monitor these days? I need to save up for one, because it's only a matter of time before my CRT kicks the bucket.

Expect to pay USD150-USD200 for a new 17-inch LCD.
I'd recommend checking craigslist and Ebay too, and would expect to pay significantly less (around USD100).

Let's all point and laugh at Jeff for using a CRT now.

HA!

Yes. It still works, and it's not like I need my games to run at a higher resolution than 1024x786, so...

newegg has some 23" for 150-200

I used a CRT until about a year ago... I still have it, I intend to use it as a second display when I get a bigger desk.

You guys will make Ant cry.

Keep it up!

I thought Ant just got a brand new Mac. Why would that have a CRT?
[Edit] I just realised which journal this was.

I did just get a new Mac, which is also now proudly running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

I swing for both teams, baby.

(But I prefer the OS X team >_>)

EDIT: That image is actually outdated and it doesn't take into account that the Mac Pro runs mostly on server grade hardware. I'll admit that Apple charge a lot for their machines, but they're a successful company. I'm fairly certain no company goes into business saying "Gee, how little money could we be making here?". Bringing up these facts is nothing new: one could say the same thing for premium cars and mega houses. At the end of the day, they do the same thing, but it's the experience that matters most and for some people: it's more preferable to have a super car or a large house.

I'm not going to get into Mac V Windows debates because they're largely idiotic. Arguing about operating systems, particularly in frequent cases where the user has had little to no experience with the 'flawed' OS is bordering on bigotry.

I use OS X because I like the experience. It's been smooth and fast even on my five year old MacBook Pro and that's more than I can say for Windows XP running on the exact same hardware. That isn't to say that OS X doesn't have it's problems (it does), but I doubt any of you could say that Windows 7 is supremely perfect.

I use Windows 7 for gaming and other bits and pieces. I don't hate it at all: in fact, I think it's a fantastic step forward for Microsoft.

Depends on your ethics and your market and if you want to be successful. I'm not saying it's right: I'm just saying it happens. Deal with it.

Whys everyone making fun of jeff? I have a wonderful CRT monitor, that I run at 1600x1200 resolution at 160 Hz. It looks beautiful.
Commented 13 years ago2010-09-10 22:50:46 UTC Comment #42913
Because a LCD does that and x3 better, slimmer, and cooler. (Temperature wise that is.)
