Xbox 360 or PS3?
So here it is. I currently have an Xbox 360, but I'm thinking about selling it and buying a PS3. I want a PS3 more mainly because I on't want to play $50 a month to play online when the PS3 has it for free. There is really only 1 thing Xbox has of PS3 and that's Halo but I don't even really like Halo.
So should I do it or keep my Xbox?

Xbox live is $50 a year, not $50 a month.

The general consensus seems to be that Xbox is the best if you like online games, and PS3 has the better SP selection. No PS3 game has a large, long-standing playerbase like a lot of Xbox games do. If nothing else, go by this rule of thumb.

Look into games that you're interested in playing, then find out if they're exclusive to one console. You'll get your answer pretty quickly. Can't think of any particular games? Head over to Gamefaqs or somewhere similar and look into the top 10 games for each console.

Or if you want to cut the bullshit and not think for yourself: my suggestion would be to keep your Xbox.

Save up and buy a PS3 as well. They both have things up on each other and they both have good exclusive games.

I currently have enough to buy a PS3 without selling my Xbox but really I don't want both. If I have a PS3 and Xbox the Xbox would not really get used and would just sit there.
My one friend had an Xbox and bought a PS3 but the only thing keeping him playing his Xbox is the fact that he has a lot of games for it and all his saves and achievements.
For me I could get rid of my Xbox the only thing I wouldn't be looking forward to about it is getting "Little Rocket Man" in EP.2 all over again. I have 2 games for it, The Orange Box and CoD: World at War.

I would get a DS if you don't already have one or a PC upgrade.

If you have your heart set on consoles for some reason, then let the list of exclusive titles decide. IMHO $50 a year for an online service is pretty reasonable, especially considering I've only heard bad things about the speed of PSN.

But if it were me, I'd take that $250 i was going to spend on a PS3 and just buy a beastly video card that kicks the shit out of either console.

DS? I'm assuming you don't mean a Nintendo DS?

I would get a beastly graphics card but when all you friends have play PS3 it's just more fun. My one friend is a PC gamer but he has the same netbook that I'm using as a backup as his permanent computer so he gets about 20-30 FPS in Goldsource games.

I don't mind either; both the same when you think about it. I went for the PS3 because of MGS4 and free Playstation?Network...obviously.

I have a 360 but it's been dead for a couple of months. When I can afford to, I'll be getting a PS3.

Yes, I mean a Nintendo DS. It's great fun.

I'm going to say PS3 exclusives aren't quite as fantastic as 360 exclusives, depending on what you're interested in. Valve games don't come on PS3 period. Any good games come on both systems. GT5 just came out, and popular opinion says that Forza 3 still owns it even though it's a year older. Fable series WAS only 360, now it's on PC as well, but not PS3. Mass Effect series was 360/PC exclusive, but 2 was just released for PS3, not sure if 3 will.

No way in HELL I'd trade my 360 for a PS3, maybe buy a PS3 as a secondary, but it would hardly see any playtime.
Oh and arcade games, I don't know about you all, but I love them, and 360 has a much better selection the PS3. It was awesome to be able to replay the original DOOM and Banjo-Kazooie games on 360.

/rant.
Tl;dr: 360 gives a lot more options than PS3. But do as you please.

You clearly didn't see Gabe Newell make his presentation at the Sony keynote at E3 this year. Also, you haven't played Uncharted. ;)

Valve games on consoles just don't work anyway.

I have a 360, but it's just a less powerful PC. Practically everything on 360 is also on PC, or has a better alternative on PC. I honestly haven't used it in about a year. Literally. There's nothing wrong with it except for the fact it's pointless.

For that reason I'd consider a PS3. There's quite a lot on it which isn't available for PC.
Still probably not going to buy it, and I want to sell my 360 (although I'll probably be lucky to get even ?30 now that the new slim 360 is out.)

So basically if you're primarily a PC gamer, get a PS3 because the xbox can't do anything your PC can't.

Huntey speaks the truth. PB, Strider and I all own PS3s and PCs. While most of our gaming sessions occur on the PC, we've had great fun playing through Uncharted 2's multiplayer modes.

My PS3 is in constant use. Not just for gaming. Blu-ray and painless streaming of my entire music/video collection are big positives for me.

I would also get a 360, but there are only about 3 games on it that interest me (and I already own Alan Wake) and that dreaded red ring of death is still hanging around. It's tanked 2 of my brothers 360's, so I don't have any faith in it.

And yeah, the Uncharted series. Best ever!!1

Originally I was going to get a 360 myself, so I could play conviction, but now that I've gotton a PC copy I'll be getting a PS3 instead.

(Not for conviction obviously, but rather because the only reason I was going to get 360 is now null, and PS3 is a great console anyways.)

I have all 3 consoles, and I play the PS3 the most. Mostly because of the fact that both Ant and Strider also own a PS3. Also, Uncharted!

Neither, there is no point in buying either unless you have friends to play em with. Get a PC instead.

Yea well that's the thing, I have 1 friend with a PS3 and one with both a PS3 and an Xbox but he plays online with the PS3. So it would make more sense to buy a PS3 because my friends play it.
I have heard bad things about the PS3's Orange Box port but I've played it on his PS3 and it's not that bad.

...But why would you want Orange Box for console anyway? :S
