Just bought Half-Life:Blue Shit.
I enjoyed the game although it felt more boring than a free mod available on planetphillip. That, or maybe I'm just 10 years late...
The problem is that there are not a lot of interesting puzzles to solve other than some pushing of buttons. Sometimes it gets frustrating, and I got the impression that instead of putting more effort into the strategy/puzzle aspect, the designers preferred to just throw in hoards of marines...
All in all, I feel I just wasted the money I could have used to buy 10 breads, on a mod that I could've just read the story of on Wikipedia...
I also have to add that I think I'm going to give up getting involved in anything that's related to GoldSource. Even playing mods( well, not entirely, there are still some really good mods out there that still deserve to be played).
It's just that the engine is too old for today's standards, and I'm sick and tired too see the same old textures or low quality textures over and over again. Not mentioning that everything that has to resemble with a physical prop in motion has to be scripted.
Who knows, maybe we're going to be talking about source like this 5 years in the future too. Or maybe Valve will finally release a damn continuation to the half-life story, with an engine upgrade coming along.
Blue shift is not the best game of the lot, but really hope you don't ostracize goldsource because of that..
Also it sounds like you're getting black mesa fever, tired of the same old themes and locations. Then my friend you need some total conversions. here are some for starters.
valve cant get anything done because theres a dam sentry gun in the lobby
Thanks for the list though.
I enjoyed Blue-Shift. Sure it was short, and there wasn't a lot of new content, but it has the most polished mapping of the three games.
I got it in a double pack with Opposing Force and the HD update a long time ago, can't complain about the price really.
Never had a chance to play Blue Shift. Heard good things and bad things about it, but I want to give it a try eventually.
That said, I owned Blue Shift from day 1 and I got my steam version free by plugging in the CD-Key (Which also got me DMC, Ricochet, Half-Life, Opposing Force and Team Fortress.)
Back in the day, I only really got it after seeing the HD models in a trailer.
Blue Shift wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either.
And thanks to Archie and Urby I got HL, OpFor, Blue Shift and TFC for free.
Like, coming to fix the elevator. Click the button and it works.

and also the "fixed" hd pack (because the steam hd pack is screwed up and wont let you play some mods).

it was nice and tidy and didnt go overboard like OP4.
OP4 was also good too, but in a different context to Blue shift.
I don't see how these other players can kill thousands of military soldiers and don't get identified like Gordon.
