Why is that? There's a lot of "jump-at-you" scares, but there's also a lot of puzzles that are tricky to figure out. But everyone uses the jump scares so i really wouldn't call that plagiarism.

I never understood the hate toward jump-scares. They work, isn't that the goal? So who the hell cares if they've been used a lot. If I was ghost trying to scare the shit out of people I would do just the same.

Idk man. This game pulls it off nicely. Its like... you know they're coming, but you don't know when, or where, or how. But its not all jump-scares. Its a balanced mix of stuff you don't really see coming... At least I don't. I HIGHLY suggest it. Voice acting could be better, but its not bad. Game-play suggestion: lights out, and alcohol. BTW.. I'm still on CH-5. So I'm still in the middle of playing it. A good friend suggested it to me and he's spectating it while I'm playing it. Laughing hysterically while i jump at the scares. It's a good time.

From the screenshots: Very plain architecture and lighting, and too much blood splatter. func_darkness is bollocks. I hate that shit, it's very unrealistic.

Well I find jump scares are basically the definition of scaring... A sudden burst of fear, so I'm not so sure about many ways to scare somebody short of jump-scares. But disturbing someone is definitely do-able in many ways, it depends on the person, culture and morals though.

Downloading!
Tet if you like horror maps, definitely check out DM_nightmare_church, that was just submitted in the vault. It's more campy than scary, but you still jump a few times, and it's really well done.

Striker: "Lose" as in "lose your keys" "Loose" as in "this screw is loose" Ignore the above comment, "loose" is not an acceptable substitute for "lose" when you're speaking English.

My bad, couple friends [European\Australian] said that when they use the term loose instead of lose it's because that's how they spell it in their dialect. Didn't care enough to bother doing any research.

Ah, I played this quite a while ago.
Didn't think much of it, for reasons most people have already said above. There is one good psychological scare in the game involving some mannequins, but even then it's basically stolen from Condemned.

Mm my friend was sitting next to me while I was playing it. Both of us had a fair bit of rum in us too so it was crazy funny when I was over-reacting. I don't play a lot of horror maps/mods so a lot of that stuff was new to me. The ending was rushed and happened way too fast, but all in all I liked it.

I don't do horror games. They just don't entertain me. Too many of them resort to jump-scares which I just kind of expect now.
Now, if a game or mod were to genuinely unnerve me then I'd be impressed. I think dark, grunge themes are being done to death and they're just not scary. I would love, really LOVE to see a horror based game set in a familiar location. None of this old abandoned tunnel or hospital crap.
Condemned 1 is a good example of this. The game never scared me as a whole, however the closing level took place in and around a farm house full of crazy people. THAT was scary.
(People also need to stop using zombies in horror games. Least scary thing ever.)

I love a good horror game, but there's really not many of them. Mostly it's cheap scares, lots of gore and LOUD NOISES. I enjoy action-splatter games like Dead Space and the last few Resi Evils a lot, but they're not scary.
More devs should look at Silent Hill 2 & 4, Penumbra (Black Plague mostly), Amnesia, Dark Corners of the Earth, the underground sections of STALKER, even The Path. Psychological horror is so much more classy. For a game (or film) to really get into your head and make you question your own senses... hard to pull off, but brilliant stuff.

Okay I played it. There's not alot here that makes this mod unique, except for the boss. Dam that guy is funny; he should be a comedian. Every time he speaks in the final part it was really funny. Like how he practically tells you what to do while yelling at you not to do it

Ending is a bit meh. but all in all i give it a thumbs up. plus there's a nice Easter egg in it.

[EDIT] Just got into the game, only advanced near the house and I can already tell you how much I hate the up-and-down movement of the view.
[EDIT2] I was just about to say how short the mod is and unscary, but then the screen reminded me I played just the prologue :).

Still waiting on the next great horror game. ;<

Custom monsters and guns are great, and the sound is done very well too.
i played up till the room where you have to get the key to continue, and you start hearing all the screams.. i will finish it later =P
