Is Chinese food in Great Britain culturally authentic Chinese food, or is it the same sort of thing we have in the States?

Less MSG than you have in the States, but hardly culturally authentic.

Market Drayton's Golden House Takeaway. Run by a chinese family using ingredients from China. :)

About as authentic as it gets without being in China.

American chinese food is way different than the engrish kind, at least the chi-nee i had in london was way-less delicious; they tend to make it more sugary/fried for us greedy americans, at least this is what our handlers told us.

@CapT and other Americans: Does all American Chinese food come in those little paper boxes that you see on a lot of TV shows? I can't imagine you get much variety if it's just mostly those weird noodles. In Australia it's almost always in plastic containers and you need to order several different things and share them between yourselves. If you tried to put our Chinese food in a paper box, it would leak everywhere because it's usually quite heavy on the sauce. Either way, not really a fan of Chinese food takeaway, too unhealthy and not even all that tasty. An Indian curry, on the other hand... :)

@Penguin: Noodles are almost never in American Chinese Food. Meat and vegetables (usually bell peppers, onions, or broccoli) smothered with copious amounts of sauce are the norm. You usually get rice in those little boxes, though.

I always thought the same as PB.

I love Chinese food. I get it at this tiny joint run by a Chinese family and it comes in plastic containers.

Foil tubs man. All the way.

Yes PB it actually does come in those little boxes, pint and quart size ;)

Somehow they are sturdy enough to keep the delicious messy sauces contanined inside. (they are more like a decent card stock than paper)

They're coated in wax.
With my local chinese spots, Combo meals come in the plastic, while individual side orders come in the boxes.
Say if i ordered General Tsao... The brocolli, chicken and fried rice would come packaged in plastic.

But if i ordered chicken lo-mein and white rice, they'd come in boxes.
The boxes are the best but you gotta take the handles off before you microwave them to heat em up. lol

I've never been a fan of Chinese food, but I've always been a very picky eater. I like some kinds of Mexican food, and some types of curry.
I'm not an adventurous eater.
