My wife got upset at me because I was letting Scott play Counter-Strike: Source.

It was a LAN server, and the only player was him (no bots either).

I was surprised that he has such good aim. He was in cs_militia, and he was able to shoot all the bottles with a pistol, and most of the shots hit the target on the first try.

I'd be upset too. I'm not saying this is not cool, but be careful with a child's innocent mind.

Just don't let him shoot the hostages, and encourage him to play CT, and it'll probably be alright. I don't think there's any harm in running around ingame shooting walls and windows, kids pretend to do that anyway. Well, I did, at least.

I was playing Duke Nukem 3D and Doom by the age of 7. Admittedly, they focus on killing aliens and demons. Still, I don't see any problem with letting a child play FPS or other action intense games at a young age, so long as you teach them that such behavior in the real world is unforgivable.

I was playing Mario at the age of 7. I upgraded to Duke Nukem by 9 though...

Wolf3D was one of my earliest 'violent' games. I turned out just fine, like the rest of you targe- uh, people.

I've played 'violent' and 'child mind warping' video games since as long as I can remember. I don't have any recurring fantasies or dreams about bombing US buildings or massacring schools and airports. I doubt Counter-Strike is going to do anything to your child, just for the love of GOD don't let him play online.

I agree with Crollo. It's not a good thing when young children are exposed to swear words. Not because of the fact that it's rude or anything, but because they tend to then repeat those words every chance they get when not in earshot of a parent.

My first 'bad' game was around the age of 6, I played the original PS Resident Evil.

I've always found FPSs to be too unrealistic to feel like it could have any connection to real life.

Pretty much didn't play anything online though. 'Til like, age 15. Not because it was enforced in the household, just 'cause I didn't want to.

I started playing Wolf3D at the age of 5. Nobody has ever tried to stop me from walking into castles and mowing down all nazi soldiers in them and looting all their jewelry, I mean, that's what everybody does, right?
