Apparently google knew about it as well.

Anyway.
The landing was successful, images will be coming in as the instruments are being tested. The rover wont move for a few weeks however.

You have to wonder if this thing ever ran over any cats during it's testing.

I'm sorry, I'll see myself out.

"Rock Neil!? Really? I don't know if you looked at the Earth before you left but it's made of fucking rock. Oooh, did you see Neil, on the shares market, rock went up three points. No, it didn't did it, because it's fuckin' rock!"

I hope we find something cool.

I wonder what part of Mars they aimed for specifically? They must have, we've mapped the planet with photos. Maybe they aimed for an area where we know ice is? If we were trying to discover things about Mars' past you'd think that an ancient dried ocean or something like that would be the bulls-eye.

If they are not aiming to an area crowded with women with three boobs, my second guess is they were aiming for a rocky and/or dusty spot.

They are aiming for a nice place to put the highest bidders flag at.

They landed in the gale crater. FAR away from the giant crevice we all know about. MSL is exploring an 'alluvial fan' ,which scientists think was formed by water, to search for carbon deposits in clay formed from water. The it's heading up a mountain known as Mt. Sharp. Apparently there's a lot of sedimentary layers visible, so we can get a good gloss at Mars' past in that area.
Also.
The rover shoots lasers at rocks.
