Where is it and why haven't I come across it in twenty years? It's there in Counter-Strike, but I never saw that in HL!

Who in their right mind would use a seventeen-year-old operating system? By digital standards it's bloody archaic.

My current computer has 7 which is already old enough. It does everything I need it to do. When I get a new one I'll be kind of forced to use 10 on it.

I do have XP in a VM that I use for pretty much nothing other than seeing if I could install XP in a VM.

Purlins normally go on top of rafters rather than through them so as not to reduce their load bearing capacity.

A professional's advice is also to put them closer together. Spacing is commonly 40 or 60cm. (16" or 24" for users of obsolete units of measurement)

Question though: Does the dripping have an accompanying sound looping at the same period? Because that seems harder to do.

AAAtrigger isn't a special texture. What makes it invisible is being part of a trigger, because a trigger will be invisible no matter what texture you paint it with. It's only meant to be used for triggers in the sense that it's a colourful texture that contrasts with everything else within the editor.

The only textures naturally invisible in-game are null and clip. Not sure if origin, it might be only if it's part of an entity. I never tested it.

Fireworks. So much research and money go into them, only to burn in two seconds to create pretty colours in the air above us. Yet it remains a forever long tradition every time a new year rolls around.

I was pretty sure I had played Black Mesa up to the end - yet I look at these screenshots and don't recognise a single one of them. Did they really change it so much since I played it? Or did I never really play it? There's only one way to find out.

in 2017 Steam Library Roundup Post #338465
I tried to play Fallout 1 and 2, but they don't seem to be compatible with my computer and they crap out spectacularly.

Games I got this year:

Train Fever
Can't start it. Not compatible with my hardware. At all, it refuses to start with an error. But, I got it on sale for $3 or so. I'll leave it for when I get my next computer.

Train Simulator 2017 (now 2018 but it's the same POS)
Got it on the Humble Bundle for pocket change. I had high expectations. I ran it, it did start, and managed to play the very first training scenario - consisting entirely of a straight stretch of track with barely any scenery around it - at 2 to 4 FPS on minimum-est settings. I guess I'll leave it for when I get my next computer.
I'm also amazed at the vast amount of misspellings a big-name game like this has. It feels really sloppy and half-assed. Those are, however, the adjectives used in most of the reviews for the game, so I can't really be surprised. I still had higher expectations.

Cities: Skylines
Also from the Humble Bundle. My computer barely runs it and even though I got a mod to reduce the resolution and effects, the performance is still mediocre. Having played it before and having played it again now, I'm still not in love with it. It has everything, but it kind of feels plastic to me. It lacks the solidness Sim City had.

Mashinky
Pretty much the only game I played this year. Participated as a tester in my scarce free time before the early access release. Quite good for a one-man shop! Needs lots of polish but it has potential. Glad I got it in exchange for testing, though, because the price is a bit steep for an early access game.

I got a handful of other games on the Humble Bundle that one time but I haven't even installed them.

I guess it was a year of bad investments in terms of gaming :P

Shouldn't it be the other way around? As in, if a light doesn't have a name it can't be toggled. If it can't be toggled, what's the point of making it start off? You might as well not put it in at all.

I'm pretty sure it's said somewhere though...

[Edit]
Right. It's on the welcome screen and early access disclaimer. That's where I kept seeing it.

I'd like to take a moment to mention Mashinky - an indie game going out on early access today.

Developed in its entirety by a single man over the course of almost a decade, it's in a pretty solid state for an early access release. Not without its difficulties, some things are still a bit rough around the edges and the interface still kind of gets in the way; all of these however are expected for an early access game. And it looks beautiful.

I had the opportunity to take part in the late testing stages (hence some might have noticed me already racking up over 40 hours on Steam despite it not being out yet) and I can assert it has a promising future. I recommend it to anyone who liked the types of Railroad Tycoon.

Depends on how far back you're willing to go. I had a good experience with Baldur's Gate II.

Until I discovered a glitch where you could start a new game with a full inventory and I decided to start over with a bunch of overpowered items and wound up disenchanted and quit it soon after.

- Brushes are rainbow like colored, it would be nice if you could turn off that and have everything (except of entities and other special stuff) in grey like in VHE.
VHE doesn't have an all-grey render option. If you set it to flat shaded you'll see random colours. You're probably looking at textured mode with all the brushes set to a flat white texture.

in Timer in HL1? Post #337120
The problem with looping multi_managers is that a new copy of the entity is spawned for every loop, so if you're close to the entity limit and/or the player sticks around for a long time, the game crashes.

Otherwise, for small maps with few entities, maps where the player won't stay around long, or where the loop cycle is really long, it's less of a concern.

in Timer in HL1? Post #337071
Use a multi_manager that triggers your entity and then itself in a loop with a 30 second delay.
