It does almost only depend on your RAM. But it'll never be more than 384mb.
Btw, the computer repairshop guy just called and told me that it's done.
I'll get it tomorrow. :) :) :)
So now I can continue mapping on a fast machine. No more waiting until it finished loading, no more crashing because my RAM is sooo little. Whehee!
My TWHLmix part is about 70% finished now.
I hope there'll be a new compo very soon.

If you're looking for someone to compile the map, don't only look at the hardware.
There is no real difference between 512mbram/2ghz and 1gbram/3ghz, at least not when compiling. It's more important that the person is very familiar with the compilers.
I have a slow ISDN connection too. It's like 6-8 kb/s downstream. I hate it.

The maximum distance between nodes so they build a path is 256 units.
Is suggest to use a black brush instead of a clip brush. Clip bruhes don't have a lightmap.
As far as I know clip brushes are even ignored by mosters. Use a func_monsterclip instead.

I think it'd be best to have a judge conference or so, on IRC or ICQ, so every judge can express his oppinion about each map that is a potential winner.

Point lights create very ugly lighting.
Since the switchable texturelights there are only very few reasons to use point lights.
7th did you already start mapping?
One more thing for the lights.rad: Do not modify textures that are already in use! This would destroy the lighting of the mappers that built their part before you. If you want a certain texture to emit a different light than it does so far, use a point light or make an invisible brush with an usused texture and add it to the lights.rad.

Half-Life still is the best choice for mapping.
Here you have millions of people that will probably be able to play your map.
And it is the most flexible engine. You can do thousands of different things without the need to code. No other engine provides this, yet.

Not everybody here knows how to map.
But if a map runs laggy, they notice that and they'll report it.
Build some HL SP maps. It's more fun to play an SP map alone than a CS MP map without any real opponents.

The compilers call the brushes or a group of brushes models.
A brush based entity for example has a model key with points at the group of brushes it consists of.

in Hi all,I am a hongkong mapper(14old=[ ) Post #40255
MAX_MAP_MODELS has nothing to do with models like monsters etc.
It means you have to many brushes on your map.
Try running the comiler with -chart (i think), this'll bring up a chart with information concering how close you are to the limits of mapdata.
You can also, in the VHE, go 'map -> show information' to see how many brushes, ents etc. you have.
If you had too many monster, you'd get a too many entities error, as they're treated as entities.
Since you all said something completely different, I'm a bit unsure about this.
But afaik my version is the correct one.

Thousands of people have tried it this way. And thousands of people didn't succeed, you won't either.
You can't just come and say, 'Hey I want to make a mod. Wanna join. You must be good.'.
If you seriously plan to make a mod, get to work!
Will it be SP/MP? Think of a story! Think of what you want to change! Make a little website which presents your ideas in an interessting way.
Otherwise you will drown in the masses of people who didn't manage it either.
