They hack gun models, and it's perfectly acceptable if you contact the author before you release, and include their name in any credits, the only thing that is frowned upon is saying it's all your own work.

CS has lived on new gun skins for years now and most of them are just hacks of older guns with new animations and a fresh skin, the mesh's are generally the same.

If you took one of my maps and changed a few brushes I wouldn't be happy. But if you credited me it wouldn't be so bad.

I think you guys are making an issue out of nothing here. The chances that someone will
a) find the 16x16 unit cubes, in the sky, in the corner, of which they can fly past and will have no idea where the corner actually is.

and
b) be able to stay still long enough to hover and buy stuff, without being shot from the ground, or whatever.

I think the possibilities are so minute that it's not even worth arguing about, and if someone is no-clipping and using whacky gravity then chances are your map's not being played the way you intended and it doesn't matter what they find. Or how they piss about.

Online gaming makes the pc great, admittedly (spelling fs) you have to put up with nubs, but hey, at least you get to shoot them at the end.

I don't get this whole 'unlimited download' thing, I've seen it on TV, but only advertised with (holds back the vomit) AOL (can't hold back the vomit..), I get unlimited everything, and I'm on ntl =/

Yeah, I agree with you, it's hard to say who and when people should be allowed to join, I mean, why should you or I be allowed to join it?

I see no fair way of doing it, except by a method of banning people and then all the reg;s who don't get banned for stupidity are the survivors, a bit elitist (kinda) but maybe teh only truly fair way, give everyone a chance, then ban like crazy!

I don't think it matters, you just need to state what medium you want your map to be played in. The judges should have WON, or someone should at least, but imho Steam should become compulsory due to HL2's iminent release.

yeah, you need to set the ambient up properly,

flags: start silent, play everywhere

and a name, that should do it.

plus if teh sound file is used elsewhere in a cs map, if teh maop is official, just use the path to that .wav, so that ppl don't have to download a new wav.

well, this is teh way it is:

HL1 is terribly dated, and teh graphics are old and pretty ugly.

HL2 is new, and lets you do way more stuff, and looks beetr.

For a game/film that is supposed to be very stylish, I think it should be a must to have an engine capable of making things look great.

Plus, think of thsoe big city environments, where the main guy talks at all those zombies. you'd need summat betetr than HL1 to do that.

No, just a standard map that get's a new password texture at the end of it once a week, just recompile and add more monsters :P

I like the idea anyway, seems liek a fair way of deciding who gets in.

But what;s your suggestion, don't shoot things out teh air without giving an idea back, or we'll end up in a dead end, I can't think of any way to decide whether a member is regular enough, not with teh mods doing more than their job entitles, and marking off ppl who shld be allowed in.

Maybe something drastic liek 1000 logins, but that just means the channel would be empty for the most part.

I really don't know a fair way of doing it, perhaps a different password posted on the news page each day, or once a week, just so ppl have to check teh main page to find it, or a seperate page, taht you have to check to get it, just so that people have to do a little more work.

Or Or or lol, best idea ev4r!!1:

we release a map once a week, that you have to play through to get the password at teh end haha, that's so aweosme I should get a medal for that shizzle!

How can you play HL, and not go online, what do you do? not being funny, but what else is the pc good for, I mena, there's pron and games, and music, and... hmm

x-ice, you fix your problem, did you manage to locate the search button, any thread that I am the last poster in and has''model' in teh title, has prbly got a solution.

Anyway, depending on the model, and the age of your tf, you prbly won't even be able to use a model without the new dll's.

Also, teh entity (in case you don't search) is a cycler_sprite and a cycler.

here's what ya do, it dawned on me, that it's not hard, just requires you to tell the player to sit down and stfu.
here goes:

As the player spawns, you give them a pre-designated set of weapons (say, a gun, a crowbar, and anotehr gun, plus a nade, and some explosives, and anotehr gun, just to be sure), you then set up triggers in your map where you want players to have to give up their guns to get, and have that trigger a player_weaponstrip, and spawn that set of weapons right there on teh ground, can't even remember the entity to do that, I'll find out if no-one else steps forward with the answer, though.

and there you go, they won't drop the guns when they get shot (don't think that's what you wanted anyway, right?), but you can force them to drop teh guns, you have to make sure that they get a certain set of weapons though, just so it looks like they've dropped teh guns they had, not just lost their guns, and had some random ones spawn instead.

Seriosly good game, I've not seen animations as lifelike as the ones they have in taht game, plus the guns own.
And the teamplay beats CS or HI lol, simply coz if you're alone, you will die.

I seem to be jumping around playing all sorts of games lately, I guess I'm getting it all out of my system so I can sit down on November 16 and waste a whole year of my life.

Build the most interesting prop you can think of, whose dimesions will not exceed a 64 unit cube. Only Half-life textures can be used, included light-emitting and animated. NO Entities aloud.

In future, if you want to find an error that doesn't show up in Hammer, you can use these things to help you:

Error: Entity 19, Brush 0, Side 5: has a coplanar plane at (-287, 641, 48), texture GLASS_BRIGHT

Entity 19 - go to Map / Go To Entity (or is it Go To Brush - either way, there's only one, not hard to find), and a box will open up, you can use this to 'jump' to any brush or entity in your level; so for this particular problem, you would type in:

[Box looks liek this]

Entity: 19 (or enter the brush number)

Brush: 0 (in this case, 0 does not exist, it's letting you know that it's an entity, and is not being counted as a solid world object)

There is also teh texture (GLASS_BRIGHT) which helps to locate it. Looking at that, I'd say it was a window, the entity and the glass texture all point to a window (funnily enough =P), so you can narrow down what you're looking for.

There is always Alt+P, but like I stated, it won't always show up in Hammer, it's good to be able to make sense of the logs.

Free trial for 30 days, but I'd suggest searching for some video tutorials, watch them a couple times, then d/l and start properly, it helps to be vaguely familiar with it before you try and do something as big as animating.

It's pretty easy to just move stuff, and even get all the key points right, but to make it look good is a whole other kettle of fish.

Try Clan of teh Dead Goat for lots of tutorials, you'll need to go to their forums, though.

Yeah, I understand your point.

However, the info_map_parameters entity is unstable at times, and while it works on some maps, it's not guaranteed that it will. I know what you're thinking, deagle_series and scouts_etc, but hey, can't always be right huh!

anyway, if you're worried about that, just make a room half way across the hammer grid space, ain't no-one gonna fly that far.

to insert a model into a CS (or any HL based mod) map:

step 1. look for tutorials

step 2. download hammer 3.5 and the fgd that supports viewing models in hammer itself.

resources here - hammer 3.5 and here -fgd

step 3. after setting it all up (drag and drop hammer 3.5.exe over hammer 3.4.exe and creating a new Game Configuration using the new fgd - set it up for steam, as 1.5 and < don't support models like 1.6 < does), you place a point based entity in your map, select a cycler, open it's properties and browse teh model line, you need to select a model from your C:/steam/steam apps/your@email.com/counter strike/cstrike/models folder, if you don't have any in there, download some from the doenerking's site, or browse Google.

Once you have selected your model you will be taken back to teh cycler's properties screen, double click teh model line, and copy the model's path (ie: models/tree.mdl).

Now pull down the drop-down list, and select cycler_sprite. By drop-down list, I mean the little tab above the entities properties list, where you chose cycler from at the begining.

Now in the cycler_sprite's properties paste the model's path into the sprite line.

Use the Black Circle with a White line as a radius to adjust teh model's direction (teh top down view corrallates to teh white line).

Now close teh cycler_sprite's properties and you should be looking at a wonderful model in your map.

If it crashes as you close it, then you need to create a new Game Configuration from Hammer eg: Tools/Options../Game Configurations.

And select only the 3.5 fgd you downloaded earlier.

If you can't see the model, it's just a small purple cube, you need to create a new Game Configuration as above.

The reason we use a cycler first is so that we can copy teh model's path exactly, don't try to type it in manually, as you will eventually make a mistake.

Remember model's can only be used from the mod's directory and nowhere else on your pc.
When releasing your map you must include teh model's like you would include sounds etc.
