Absolutely Silvertongue!

You have PLENTY of time left, and i will make concessions for anyone who needs help and extra time at the end! No need to rush!

I am also a slow mapper. My advise is don't try to rush or cut corners, and you will gradually get faster. (Every time i rush, it just creates more problems and retrorfiting/fixing that needs to be done later)

And thanks for the prizes! We are amassing quite a prize pool for this!

Yeah man, thanks for the ep2 setup recap!
I wanna map the world, but i am only one man with too many dedications and too little time. I miss the over-abundance of time and inspiration that was high-school.

I remembered your Source SDK fix thread yesterday and planned on trying it out tonight. (Is that still the current fix?)

Also btw, do i need the Source SDK base 2013 SP thingie? (i don't think it finished downloading, i have my steam bandwith settings clocked way down, lol)

And yeah Instant Mix, inspiration/motivation are tricky! Try and take advantage of the motivation when it's there, and sometimes you make something pretty enough that you can't help but go back to finish it. (Your wip is absolutely amazing btw! =P)

How are everyone else doing? Here are my WIP album for the hub. (Still haven't been able to get into Ep2 SDK yet, maybe because the source SDK 2013 SP thingie hasn't finished downloading) ;)

So I'm starting concepts for some different hub-map ideas for Rooms II.

For the first hub theme idea, I'm going to set it up where you can play each map individually--like Reissues--, or all the maps together. (there will also be a small amount of gameplay)

Once i have something worth showing, I'll sync the vmf to a dropbox folder for all rooms content, so feel free to share your wip folder if that suits you!

If you'd like to be invited to the dropbox, pm me your email. (i will try find them from your profile and invite authors when the folder is ready)

And yeah, the size limit is only on the playable area of the map(the 3dsky and inaccessible areas can be as big as you like) ;)

I haven't started mine yet, and i will estimate it will take 2 months minimum for all the peeps to complete their entries, AND then it's a month for me to put them together, so yeah: you have time :)

Can you make a (presumably togglable) option that would automatically texture the 'new' faces created down the split during a clip with NULL/NoDraw and automatically align said faces to 'World'?

This would save time, especially with making trims and such. Again, I would also like to see the toggles for face and Left+Top when dealing with off-grid stuff. (i know i can select the whole thing and click manually click them, i just think it would be nice)

Anyone know if it's possible to strip weapons in CSGO?

Maybe there is there a way to select players for an output? Maybe some entity hack you can do this with?

I want to add a knife arena, as WCD did with his with his Blue Paradise map ;)

You are ALWAYS gonna have to edit an area a few times AT LEAST--adding face-lifts if you will--, to get it to look right. Get used to the idea ;)

Don't get me wrong, the more planning through sketching, googling reference pics, etc. will make your task easier, but by no means are you going to get something "perfect" the first time.

My thought on detail: Map as much structural, brushwork details on the fly as you can, so you are not drowned in detailing at the end.

You should post a WIP in the rooms thread of what you're talking about, we'd all be happy to help you with pointers :)

Well we could really use another mapper, but if we can't find one, i will seriously consider bringing you on Stu ;)

And btw, i understand the trepidation of changing engines (i would have been happy to map with goldsource forever), but you should really really consider it! It's not that different, and you will be amazed at the new things you'll be able to build!

I WILL still always miss GS texlights, but other than that, everything is such better in the source engine :)

Multimanager and a trigger_changetarget for each gun target i think, but never tried anything like this before with a func_tank.

If for some reason you can't get it to work with the func_tank directly, you could maybe simulate the alternating damage using trigger_hurts and a func_tank with damage set to zero.

With 20 days left, I'm looking for 1-2 partners to help finish off WIPs for the CEVO Mapping Contest at GB.

I have two main maps, one a missile Silo(30% complete) and the other a shopping mall(50%). Also have 2-3 older unreleased maps both about 50% done(last year's CEVO entries, lol), which could also be used.

Tbh i really don't want a partner, but there is no way otherwise i could possibly finish in time... If anyone is interested, throw me a PM, and i will send you the vmf/bsp to check them out.

Even if you don't have a gret deal of experience with CSGO, as long as you have a solid framework for level design in general, that's fine. (you must however at the very least own CSGO or be willing to buy it!)

All credit/prizes would be split evenly.

Alternatively, I be willing to help you finish one of your maps for the same deal, if you had one :)

Indeed! Hammer 4 enables much more extreme brushwork hijinks, but also allows for some crazy errors sometimes, even doing simple things like cloning a brush or a simple clip!

The good thing is these errors usually don't crush your whole compile, but it's always good practice to keep regular backups of your work and compile often(in case they do).

BTW forgot to ask, did you try Alt+P Check for Errors?(sometimes this tracks down the problem brush, sometimes not)

Maybe try covering the enitre area you just added with a solid brush, and see if it will compile.

If that doesn't work, go back to your lastest autosave or archived version that worked, and rebuild the new room.

Last resort if you can't sort it, feel free to post all or part of the vmf, and we can troubleshoot it ;)

Try adding a origin brush to the func_rotating(I know it's not needed, sometimes it helps fsr).

Source entities are pretty flexible, if not a little buggy. (If something doesn't work one way, try another) TopHattWaffle has some great entity tutorials, i would definitely recommend his channel for some unconventional examples/ideas ;)

If it's not an I/O problem, possibly there is something parented that's being fussy?(If yes, try parenting it a different way) If you can't sort it, post/pm the vmf and I'd be happy to troubleshoot it

Patience is my worst enemy. Sometimes you just need to put in the time to fully realize your idea, and sometimes it's simply scaling the vision down to a more workable challenge, that makes the magic happen ;)

Sometimes you know exactly what you need to do to pull something off, but simply lack the will.. If it's not one thing, it's another..

Sometimes a project should not continue past the planning phase, because of an obvious flaw or conflict you discover.. Start with a bunch of variations of your original idea, and then move forward with only the most promising ones.

Mr. Good Map is correct! we are all here for you for questions and/or to brainstorm ideas :)

So many ideas for this; I may also refit one of my original Rooms:S maps.. Decisions decisions :P

My map is definitely gonna have some combat, interactivity, and/or puzzles this time around, and is probably going to turn into a bit of a tribute map to twhl members, past and present.

Gameplay is not required for your room, though it IS absolutely encouraged! :)

Not hard at all TJB!

Converting GS maps to Hammer 4
If you didn't already know, you can open .rmf in Hammer 4, and simply 'save as' vmf.(You can also do this in Sledge) ;)

Hammer 4 even has legacy entity support, but DON'T use them--they may adversely affect your map. Instead, change func_walls to func_detail, and illusionarys to func_brush with solidity to 'never'.

Note
Func_brush can be used for many things, but try to use them sparingly, as too many can cause problems in your map.

Note
ALWAYS func_detail non-VVISblocking brushes in your map, and most compiles should only last 5-10 minutes.

If you want your GS textures, export using Wally or rip them by decompiling a wadincluded bsp. Then, convert them with VTFedit, and use 'replace' feature in the texture browser to apply the new materials.

Note
GS textures are scaled to 1.00, and in Source, the default scale is .25

Note
Transparent materials, i.e., a grate or railing textures don't block VVIS nor seal your level, even if they are world brushes, e.g. place a toolsskybox brush behind a window, to seal the world.

Tool textures
Replace 'null' with tools/toolsnodraw, 'sky' with toolsskybox, 'clip' with toolsplayerclip, etc. All the new tools materials will show up in the browser if you type 'tools' in the search box.
