@TJB I will try my best to explain this...

Keep exactly what you have, but create a new mapping channel (ID 2). Unwrap the poles so that they are two circles (basically just the triangles). On your unwrapping map, you'll have the main part and the two circles. Texture render (bake) ID 1 (original) using ID 2 (one with separate poles). You will see the distortion on your texture output, but you can open open up photoshop and fix it up on the texture. The final result is a perfectly seamless textured planet. This also applies to any object if you have the patience.

It's not even a model, carry on.

The best part of that method is if you compile the map with the big block method, and noclip into the walls, a face will still draw where the leak is. If you're really picky, you can try and fix the leak. Most of the time I just end up beveling that face too. Like I said, I have no tolerance for leaks.

I have to admit, some other editors and game engines I've tried, the geometry feels... flimsy. Like Unity3D feels feathery compared to GS and Source mapping.

I have no patience for leaks. I start blocking large sections inside the walls or on the outsides of the map with bevel brushes. It doesn't hurt anything and yet plugs the leak.

Here's a quick illustration:

I've been doing this trick since my Poison Garden map. It's allowed me to rotate whole sections of rooms and build at angles like in beerfort.

Ooooh I get it now...

And I'm sober...

No regrets...

Anyway, why don't they allow people to hook up a mouse/keyboard to the console? It'd make chat a easier, better UI navigation, and yet still allow the controller for those who like it too.

Honestly, Super Matt Jordan plays better on a controller. It was originally designed for one but was quickly scrapped and controls were reformed a month after dev started. I'd love to see SMJ on this console just for shits and giggles.

in Halloween community map? :D Post #315884
I was thinking of something along the lines of trick-or-treating where the player visits different houses and places. It would be more similar to the rooms project, where each person has a map file of their own. We can still use a template for the maps as it would be easier to connect them if the player came out to a street each time. But that's just a suggestion.

Like if I was trick-or-treating and a gargantua answered the door, I'd totally accept his candy.

Thoughts?

I like cheese.

Here are some favorites:

1: Pimento Cheese on Wheat Thins.
2: Port Whine with Ritz Crackers.
3: Blue Cheese on Bacon Burgers (nnnyummy).
4: Sharp Cheddar with pepperoni, cracker variable.
5: Swiss with pickled herring on Ritz Crackers.
6: Mozarella sticks, fried or otherwise i don't care.
7: Pepperjack on Wheat Thins.
8: Kraft Bacon Easy Cheese on whatever.
9: Velveeta Macaroni Cheese Shells, the only way to go with Mac & Cheese. Occasionally I add bacon to it. Because... bacon.
10: American Cheese melted in broccoli rice.
11: Bean and Cheese burritos.
12: Nachos <3

Of course all this is in moderation.

It doesn't exist. I've not seen it anywhere and the closest thing to it is a well made help file.

If you do the pivots thing, make it snappable to vertexes as well so we can rotate brushes like a hinge. It could prove useful when making anything that's pathed along organically.

If you end up eye-raping users with mass buttons like any modern 3D package, add a search bar that can pull up the button or function you're looking for. This would also help people learn the software quicker without a tutorial or teacher.

I'd still like to see support for exporting/import to/from a modeling program like max or blender. Hammer right now is one way and its not the most helpful unless you plan to make a very specific model.

@PB concerning viewport images:

Yeah I imagine that as well. That setup sounds better than the viewport image in Max, which sucks.

Scaling the image and lining it up to the grid seems necessary. Well, work something out, or what does everyone else think about this?

A super advanced feature idea I have would be, some how, the capability to read an .OBJ file and convert it to something similar to the tr-mesh brushwork or something. That would bridge the modeling and mapping aspect, and allow people to create some really interesting things like nifty curved hallways or an easier time making terrain. This feature would even be of good use to source I think. Sleep on that one.

I have been thinking a lot about this and how it could have a large constructive edge over hammer.

The ability to place an image in the view port to reference. That would be a significant start. That way people with paper designs can trace out their maps quickly.

Yep, I used World Painter. I took the map from the TWHL Planet and used a bunch of common texture brushes I have around to create a height and random whatever.

I think there may be too many caverns, and not enough cave passages. I haven't used world painter that much.
