But even if they were all Mormons in the middle east, they'd still be blowing stuff up, and manipulating THOSE scriptures. Religion is just a hook to justify actions...its all politics.

The main plus point of half life is the lack of someone typing "w00t fux0r pwn4g3" after ever single action in the game.

I dont think you can trigger a healthcharger, so i cant see any entity setup working :(. That said, I'm not exactly master of mapping!! If its possible some of the big guns will correct me.

Its actually a brush entity, as opposed to a texture. Anyways...I dont think you can trigger anything on using it, and if you had a camera change first then im not sure you could USE it.

All that crap isnt patriotism anyways. Its pomp and ceremony. Flag waving and rituals are NOT patriotic. DOING something good for your country is (which quite often goes against the government). But of course, whoever sits in the big chair, gets to call anyone who questions him 'unpatriotic'.

God is always on the side of the majority. :P

You know, it would be nice in a thread introducing a new member, for people not to post without pulling ongoing arguements into it for no reason. Sly digs at people, which i noted from that 'anon' post aimed at me and my ilk. (Yes im a wannabe mapper, thats why im LEARNING to map, as opposed to working on the next half life professionaly.) And its also a bit lame (good advice or no) directly telling someone in a public forum to shun other members when he/she has only arrived.

A bit of civility, we have guests ;)

Hello, and welcome to the wonderful, wonderful world of TWHL.

Theres no real advice on behavior you can give other than dont be an idiot. If you're not an idiot, you'll suss out the etiquette in here quite quickly. Dont be afraid to ask anything your not sure about (but ALWAYS search the tutorials and entities sections for an answer first, thats the difference between a beginner and a lazy beginner.) And as ppl have said, dont post your first map. (I'm here months and i still havent posted any work!)

This advice will be lost on idiotic ppl, since they just disregard every bit of advice given.
But at least you introduced yourself a bit before barging headfirst into the forums, which puts you on my good books ;) . Have fun, join IRC chat, and as you get better at mapping, help others.

Ignore Idiots (you'll spot them by reading posts in forums quickly enough). Its impossible to win by engaging with one, they just drag you down to their level.

And don't forget about the sun-screen ;)

err....anyways...
Actually, sorry people but I'm also now too 'busy' to do this. I'm sure that TWHL will survive without it.
That was me being a big baby. I took the huffs because I obviously misinterpreted Andy in IRC talking about "nothing" being done to the site post hl2. I was already infuriated by the constant mind numbing spamming on the site, and saw doing nothing for hl2 as doing nothing for the site. Looking at the index page, I see that this is obviously not the case. Contented now that affirmitive action will be taken I will also 'pull the finger out' so to speak.

Concerning the spamming on IRC. I'm also one of the more idiotic on the channel, but as a rule stop as soon as someone new joins the channel, or a question is asked. When there are no questions being asked, I tend to use the channel as a hang out area, talking crap as usual.

So I would like to apologise again for being so childish, and (god willing) will start work on updating the tutorials as promised (though with my huffing, I'll probably not have it done by the end of the month, sorry Andy) ;)

TWHL staying the same could have 2 effects:

1 - we dont get any new members (which personally I wouldn't mind, seeing as it would mean no new spammers)
2 - the website will then become a pool of regulars, which is good in itself, but with noone asking 'stupid' beginner questions, the existing spammers will overrun the site, consuming all.

The best possible outcome would be, no new idiots, and the current select few morons go bother another site.

On the whole, quite a good tutorial davideo, but personally I'd have the bracketed definitions eg:

(Texture : A texture is what the wall looks like. You can have rock, dirt, metal, and 1000's more.)

As popups/footnotes rather than in the actual tutorial itself.

Obviously you need to know about texturing CP, but the clip tool i would consider to annoying for a beginner to use (I still never use it as a rule).

Good one article Jahzel, which I read last night. A good, grounded conspiracy theory without a 'lizard man' or 'Bob Hope' in sight. You have ME convinced. ;)

That news page is a bloody mess; is he just pasting on top of the same html file each time? Of course, I will now have to right a satirical 'theory' and get it posted, just to make me feel better about myself.

Personally, as you all know, im in no hurry to get hl2, what with my crappy computer situation, but i feel that doing NOTHING when hl2 comes along is just being lazy (no offence since this is atoms site and his decision.). If it were to be some kind of retro homage to a by-gone age then fair enough, but NOTHING implies letting things stagnate, which currently seems the case, looking at the site.

The TODO list of atom's seems to have been a pipe dream, with no chance of ever being implimented. Some members have reverted to their spammy, idiotic states and the moderators are fairly powerless to do anything about it (in fact, it seems that Seventh-monkey alone is having to hold the fort all by himself).

I really DON'T want TWHL to stagnate, as it is a damn good community, which has taught me everything i know about mapping, and you are, with very few exceptions good guys. I am very, very greatful to you all, and spend most of my work day, and when i am home either at the site or in IRC with you all.

I just hope that Atom's 'nothing' approach only concerns hl2, as opposed to the site itself which seems to be the case.

Jahzel:You don't KNOW anything outside your own experience. You have read (im guessing string theory mixed with occult) and you think it sounds plausable, moreso than anything else but you don't KNOW it.

And yes, seventh, while the anonymous poster seems to be thinking a bit more, he is nonetheless a coward and non-entity. Neither of you can be correct.

He never said he came up with the idea of VUE. In fact he was linking videos about it to websites with VUE in them in the forums at that time.

Your ACTUAL accusation of plagarism was about chemicals. I take it you didnt find the REAL person, so wrongling plagarised by Jahzel.

While Jahzels evidence sounds compelling, I'd be inclined to think that these chemicals are used IN SPITE OF, and not BECAUSE of their effects. Its a bit like saying Thalidomide was used by the powers that be to create a new slave class of people would couldnt fight back.

I don't know them off hand, but try in ZHLTs (or rather the HTML files with it). Specifically the problems.html; but you really shouldnt max out halflife. It depends on the sizes of the brushes, how many are being rendered at once etc on how fast things will run. Having a ridiculously big map GENERALLY ends up with large pointless bland areas.
