I'm in the grooling process right now of search and destroy. I had posted another entry on no err so its not showing up in problems or err file but crashes the only cylinder like shape i have in map is spiral staircase ;before this problem it was compiling fine, so its gonna pop up sooner or later. I had a couple empty entities but have deleted those already!!!I just cant think of what it is (mind boggling)been workin on this since june.
drivin me nuts it is the first map that I've created (that i plan on finishing that is ) :nuts:

to unbreakable thats what im looking for.

and to cell bender iam intermediate at maps so there are still things i dont know so whatis difference between problem report and error report or is it the same thing all i know is to check for probs either by error report or in problems in valve hammer. No problems show up in either but map crashes still. but before it was working, so i know there is a problem is there another way to check for problems im not aware of?

No i purposley ran without vis !!!(for quick compile )but every other time it gives err and when it goes to the map it crashes so obviously theres a problem i know my setup is fine for compile its worked since i set it. When there is no problem it runs csg bsp except vis for quick compile, but the compile time literally takes 30 secs goes to the hl exe and skips everything and then crashes when in game maybe it is my setup of compile so here it is (but its worked tell now)also will be reading up more on changing these ive started to delve into things like sparse chop bouncelights by the way thanks for any help much appreciated

Map clearly has an error in it but when i compile an err file is not created i cant find the problem. I've been lookin everywhere on this i cant fix whats wrong

wad 2bmp doesnt that make the texture better quality and i know there is away to make kick but textures from photos ive seen it done in the level d4ms a shogun level which by my standards is the best level ive seen for hl yet !!!!!

typing on the internet who would of thought peeps would be university professors would u like me to write an essay teach if u spent less time on the typing on this site and put that extra effort into the map think about how much nicer your map would be. Its typing guys ,on the internet. func illusionary(but that wil make one wall non see through) or make wall thicker 32 units i think it is for nothing to go through i might be standing corrected on that specification but i do know u have to make wall thicker certain guns go through certain thickness gauss will go through upto 32or is it 36 andif u dont want wall that thick dont but gauss in level

It takes forever to proof read and put in the punc. By that time I could be mapping !!and besides punctuation is for essays or formal papers this is not an english essay we are here to help eachother not proof read but at the same time i will not be stubborn and i will give u this i will try to put more punctuation in k man!!! Did u see the map yet? It's nothing liike dock rocks awesome maps, but its somthing to start with.
I will be putting some new textures in soon and touching up nulls and adding hints and as for the punctuation again will work on it lol :nuts:

sky textures i looked up in tutorials and forums but there is only brief description of how to make cutom sky and not really a tutorial ilooked in sky gen but u cant import i dont think so how do u go about creating that dream sky tutorial if there is some info i missed plse send me inth eright direction i have a couple pics likesunset waves a forest and city shot

now i have done away with sky box and put the sky directly relative to parts u will see like at that circle window i was having problems now i put a square brush around circle window not box just one brush air tight and does same effect with out pooching map .
and i looked at a tutorial i think u had answered rabidmonkey about nulltextures so i have now putt nulls on all outside faces player wont see there is updated version of map and wad so thankyou and i have just made about 20 textures for the map including rock faces and sky textures and pictures so map will be looking much nicer next version

no dont need it i thought tyhere was more to them or somthing or maybe i was doin it wrong cu z i had made a ladder a different way it worked but they way on the tutorial was far better
and its not my theory somthing one of the team usa mapping members told me theere is a small glitch or somthing in the multiplayer if u dont put them in your map

i have map in unfinished maps with a pic it is called pillarbox there is a sky box that might be part of it and this map is in its early stages textures arent the ones in the final but they are what they are for now untill i get adobe and load cam pics and transfer and as for the circle made acylinder short one that is 16 sides then made brushes and vertex aligned so u get box around out side then adjusted cylinder in centre as glass so now u have a view of the sky

wondering is there any tricks on top of the hints brushes to prevent this
all i did was put a circle window in my roofno errors in the vertexmanipulation technique i used at this point i have no hint brushes in map quite yet and will they really help this 5fps go up quite a bit or is there somthing else i might have missed?will put pic up on site

k guys figured it out i had an aaa texture and a clip texture on a very smal l piece in map i didnt see it i new it would be somthing simple its all working now just just for future any one that doesnt know Do Not PUT AAAtrigger OR CLIP TEXTURES ON BRUSH ENTITIES!!!!

im compiling my map like normal dumpty dumpty dum no problems right!!!(jst so u know it was working fine)
then yesterday went to compile and it said file not found on server and now i cant get it to work i checked everyhting looked in forums i talked it over with some peeps from the team but cant figure it out i have my maps in C:SierraHalf-Lifevalvemapsname of map

and just so u know no errors found on mapat all any guiding in this really stupid probably simple situation would be much appreciated

i do try to read and try things in the forums and figure it out but this time guys im stumped man

how long does it take to compile your map?
i have 2.3ghz intel 256meg sd ddr ram 70 gigs harddrive
and i have 256mb radeon 9600xt
any way smade the map allover much smaller now added a secondfloorr it visibility matrix is .80megs and compile perfect i added a second floor put some monsters on it and made a vent that drops to botttom floor
i wanted to make a teleport but u need info tele destination and trigger teleport i have the destination one in entities but there is no trigger teleport do i have to download that file from somewhere and how do u get it now my next lesson is to put stairs into this map
and how do start the map without needing to put a suit entity so aso u can get into the powerpack and have guns specs show up and health ?

I MADE A BRUSH 15 SQUARES BY 12 ON TOP VIEW AND 6 SQUARES HIGH ON SIDE VIEW BUT IN COMPILE LOG IT SAID THE SIZER OF MAP WAS THE 94..... IT TOOK LESS THEN AN HOUR TO GET DONE PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE MAP
I THINK CUZ I ACCIDENTALLY HAD THE SIZE ON 256 THAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM LOL OH WELL BACK TO TGHE DRAWING BOARD
BLOW UP HL MMMMMMM......
