The Hunter: Your map didn't appear in the compo entries, that's why it wasn't judged. Don't attempt to belittle us, it's not our fault. We didn't just decide to ignore it you know.

Check the folder directory, make sure its going into the right place. Also, make sure it actually is a mod and not just a zip with proper folders setup. A mod should have the file liblist.gam if I recall correctly. Not at home to check.

We'll look at the pros and cons of anonymous posting when TWHL3 rolls around. Anonymous posting was phased out because of spammers. But back then, we didn't have IP logging tools built into the site, so it may be an option now. We'll definately think about it anyway.

No...

We had six entries.

Edit: Just had a look at five of the six entries.

One word: wow.

I'm absolutely beaming at the quality exhibited in these compo entries. They're all of a high standard, so I commend you all. I have one more map left to test (when I get the WAD file that is), so the results will hopefully be around soon.

So why bring the history here, you moron? No-one cares about your public soapbox crap in which you spout utter drivel in order to promote yourself as someone who "knows all that we don't".

No-one cares. Stop stirring controversy for the heck of it. Like I said, TWHL was perfectly peaceful for a good week while you were away. Coincedence? I think not. If you've got something against satchmo, deal with it without attempting to flout your ego all over the place. If you've some beef with satchmo from an experience with the Snarkpit, then keep it at the bloody Snarkpit.

No-one likes your self-obsessed, idiotic, attempted prophetic statements and platitudes.

Any user caught logging in as one of the spambots will be temporarily banned from TWHL.

Spambots do not have the ability to log into their account after creation: as such, all their IPs read as 0.0.0.0. As soon as they login, the IP is taken and assigned to the user. As such, if you log into the accounts your IP will be assigned to the spambot's account.

Long story short: don't do it.

Brushed based objects can, yes.

You can put entities outside your main map, so long as they're sealed in by something. That's how teleports function.

Ok, I nearly have all the maps (got one more to go). We only had two Source entries, and I already know what one comprises of, so I'm not even going to bother taking a look at them.

As for the HL entries, I'm still updating HL1 at the moment (it's on 57% at the moment and moving fairly steadily, since it was 21% yesterday). I also have to go and seek out a wad file that Tetsu0 used (thanks for not supplying a link to it either, or including it in the BSP).

Should be able to take a look at the HL1 entries in a couple of days, with any luck.

in help questions for halflife2 Post #216136
If you've come from the HL1 mapping universe, you'll either get HL2 mapping, or you won't. I've seen many a great HL mapper who just cannot adapt to HL2 mapping.

As for tips, you'll want to try and realise what Source's limits are, just as you would for HL1. I started in HL2 mapping by making a really small map (an alleyway) and detailing the heck out of it. Because it was small, I was able to really push the detail aspect without it taking a huge amount of time.

Have a good look through the prop models avaliable to you. Prop models are a crucial part of Source mapping. Basic knowledge of what props are avaliable to you will help you, I assure you: you'll know what you can do, and you'll know that there's a prop there to help you.

As alex said, use inspiration. Try experimenting, but don't release anything. Your first few maps (unless you're damn talented) will be pretty junky/buggy, but they serve as a starting point nonetheless. Read up on Source mapping (check our Links page) for some ideas of what the Source engine can do (bumpmapping, HDR, etc).

Try taking a look at the VDC and seeing what turns up. I've never actually had that problem before, which is why it's so weird...

Hey guys: just wanted to confirm my involvement in this mod, despite my lack of action so far. I'm still in the stages of updating Half-Life (I formatted a while ago, backed up a bunch of GCFs onto 3 DVDs. One of those DVDs worked: the other partially worked, and the one with the most GCFs on it failed completely), so it'll be a little while until I can get cracking.

Probably not the best advice, but try decompiling a map that has that feature and have a look at how they did it. As far as I know, you just use a couple of camera entities, which CS will then switch between when it needs to.
