Hmm I noticed Steam has been acting up...Yesterday Friends would not connect in-game and creating a server would bring up a Library Engine Error...

Yes you create a ZIP and drag what you want into it.

Env_Cubemap can be put anywhere but it is a wise choice to put itin the middle of each area you make like room 1, room 2, outdoor 1 etc.

The light_environment doesn't matter but it is a great way also to customize your levels lighting. You could angle it so it shines a sunlight in the direction of a building so the shadows cast look really cool etc.

C:program filesvalvesteam

Delete the ClientRegistry.blob and start Steam and see if that works. Usually fixes all Steam problems.

Cubemaps just make the game look correct...The nails on your hands won't look silver and walls won't glow in the dark etc...Just fixes the reflections.

Just make a zip file by right clicking and create zip then rename to whatever.zip

Drag the files you want in it and voila.

So is the problem solved now? You might also like to use cubemaps in your map.

env_cubemap - Place one in each room and outdoor place about player height then compile, in-game type in console buildcubemaps and let it do its thing and voila. You have to do this everytime you re-compile the map or rename the BSP.

Yes there is because if you remember in HL2 at the Nova Prospect prison you can watch different things going on by pressing 'e' on the one monitor.

Lemme find an example:

Would be funny to meet Hunter so I could just slap him, run and hide behind my PC.

If anyone wanted to meet me in London it could happen since I'll most likely be going there everyday for the next 3 years >_>.

Haha that video no. 4 just cracked me up because I knew that from the above videos it would play some loud music and a random face would appear. But still I jumped :D

I'm not feeling too good today so I can't tell if the video made me worse but my eye sight is a little hazy most likely from the jump.

Kinda cool but I have these strange thoughts of the monitor blacking out and a face appears or I close my eyes and see the face :D

Although I didn't find it too disturbing but I have played a lot of the Silent Hill games so I'm slightly used to it.

Well I hope you realise you can't have multiple screens tied to different cameras. Only one can be used or the other monitors just display the same thing.

For the camera's you just go to properties and choose the parent which is the rotating yes.

I thought I might add that from what I've heard Hammer lags like a bitch when Vista is installed.

I'm assuming it has something to do with how the level is rendered in Hammer.

The continuous water effect is done with a 3D skybox where a camera elsewhere enlarged the water you make beneath it and applies it all around the level edges where the sky is. Problem is water is tricky to get it so it matches the water inside the level and animates at the same time. You have to scale it down 1/16th of it's size since the camera enlarges it 16 times.

For the standing up thing that was done with a point_viewcontrol camera parented to func_doors that give the illusion of getting up and then it is turned off and player control is back on. It's a bit complex but you make the player_start trigger at the mapstart to turn on the camera which follows the func_doors and then ends thus gaining control of the spawn again so place the spawn and trigger where the player should start.

Edit I just re-read it and my reply doesn't make much sense does it >_>...

No because the blocks teleport back to the start and loop so about say 10 cliffs move from one point to the other and then teleport to the start and repeat. Clever idea I might add.

Ive been playing with it and i take it you use the entity point_viewcontrol?

Yes you sure do.

How do i disable the player and make it switch to point_viewcontrol entity?

Make a block covered with trigger texture, tie it to trigger_once and make the output of that trigger target the view_control to I believe activate.

At the moment, it appears to dissable the player camera and the view just drops to the floor!

The camera might be facing down?
