My internet is being a total douche again. Is there any chance I can get a small extension purely because I don't want to lose the work I've done, but I can't upload at the moment.

I won't get any extra time to actually work on it since I'm not at home all day, but I can't actually pass it on right now :(

OK, done a fair bit over the night. Still some bugs, but I spent ages sorting out some of the messier bits. I don't know what grid-size some of you are making your geometry with, but there were quite a few brushes off-grid, especially around the building next to the CT tunnel on the other side from Urby's hut.

Also I have no idea how you compiled the version you sent me, CT. It had so many entities with their origins outside the map boundaries. Didn't you notice the leaks and CONTENTS_SOLID errors?
When you shrank the 3D skybox elements, you forgot to deselect the entities so all the overlays and stuff got scaled as well - something they definitely don't like.

It's coming together though, and is actually playable in its current state.

I still have ~12 hours left based on when CT sent it to me, but I have to go on a shoot. Depending on how long that takes, I might not be able to do any more.

Sorry for the rant, this is still awesome!

Sucks about the private game timing out, though. Hope it let's you join at a later stage.

I got shown this by a mate of mine Ally. You might have seen him if you ever watched my Postman Ally mockumentary.

New feature: Private games

Added the ability to create private games last night. You’ll now see this option on the Create game page.

When you create a private game, it will generate a link that you can use to invite your friends/family/coworkers/twitter followers to play it.

When it completes, anyone who played it will get a notification and will see the game listed on their profile. It will not be visible on the rest of the site, BUT the link to the game can be shared so others can view the final results. Which should be useful for things like forum communities or offices where there may be people who want to see the results, but weren’t able to participate.

Coming up is the ability to set the size of the game. So you can scale it to the number of people you’re playing with (to a degree… since less than 7 or so wouldn’t make for a very interesting game). But for now you’ll need to share the link with at least 12 people for a game to complete. On your profile page, you can see the status of the game and how far along it is.

Enjoy!
So here's the first TWHL game:

I think we might have to prevent access to Zeeba's rooftop area. It's possible to see too much of the map from there and would mean that a lot of currently nodrawn areas would need to be textured. If you just get rid of the ladder it'll be fine.

I'd really quite like to do the building across from the office, purely because I've had plans for what to do with it since my second pass (I just ran out of time). Since I'm fairly early in the third pass order it should be alright, yeah?

Also, I'd really like to let everyone involved know how fucking awesome you are. Seriously, it's the success of community projects like this that set TWHL apart from every other forum. Also huuuge thanks to CT for optimising like a boss.

Edit:

I can't believe I've only just come across this absolutely glorious browser-based social game.

The first player types a phrase, then the second player (chosen at random from everyone registered) has to draw it. A third player (again chosen at random) then has to try to write what has been drawn and the cycle repeats until 12 players have had turns, at which point the game is complete and everyone can see all the stages. It's like chinese whispers and pictionary mixed into one.

You can follow players, too. Here's me:

The thing is there is not a lot of new stuff for cs to have a new title.
If it was too drastically different then all the CS players would bitch and whine about how it's not identical, just like they're doing now with only minor changes.

There's nothing wrong with keeping up with the times. Yes, this new instalment is primarily visual, but as I keep saying - it's been EIGHT YEARS. They're allowed to make a new one. Go shout at Activision who release the same game every year for £45 a pop.
As mappers you should be excited at all the new toys you can play with.

Honestly, some of you are so odd when it comes to stuff like this.

In Bruce's world, 'constructive criticism' is a term used only by inferior beings.
Striker, I recommend you add a couple of elements that will focus the player's eye the moment they see them. Perhaps put some large pillars running down the middle of the room and have some stark constrasting combine lights attached to them to break up the monotony of the orange bulbs. Try to give the room some sort of purpose as well. An underground area the size of a football field could be used for all sorts of crazy things.

Anyhoo, ahead of the moddb release tomorrow, here are some Core WIPs. This is deep underground and is pretty much where Black Mesa filters its waste. It's also the closest thing to a "horror" section the mod will have.

Nuke, Train and Office are all fairly clearly unfinished. They have never been included in the "test weeks" where specific elements are tested on all of Valve's servers for the week. Last week was cs_italy 24/7. Now it's the two ar_maps.

Not sure I agree with that.

I think it's just the next logical step forward. It's everything to CSS that CSS was to 1.6. It's also a lot more like CSS than it is like CS 1.6.

Much better graphics, more accessibility, new weapons, a new game mode, streamlined competitive play, new versions of classic maps.

It's still the same game, but that's a good thing - it's just changed enough to be fresh to existing players without stepping too far into the territory of other modern shooters.

Again, keep in mind that CSS is over 8 years old now. It's high time for a revitalisation.

We're desperately trying to get a media release for The Core ready for Monday, so production has increased over the weekend.
A question we sometimes get asked (read: never get asked) is how we keep track of all the mod updates between the three of us. The answer? SVN repository. Here's a few highlights from the revision log, updated every time we save something to the repository.

You now have a new compile preset. Go to the lights run command and paste "-both -final -TextureShadows -StaticPropPolys -game $gamedir $path$file" into the parameters box. That should be it.
You can remove the run map command if you don't like it starting the game after it finished compiling (as shown in my screenshot - only 4 compile processes)

Didn't manage to get as much done to the layout as I would have liked. Spent too long tinkering.

I thought it'd be a good idea to have the hostages on an upper floor in the large building the office is connected to via the overpass.
There would need to be three additional entry points to that building. Perhaps a vent next to the trees, a main entrance in the car park at the bottom of the hill and a side entrance somewhere.

Of course all of this is optional - it's just what I would do if I had the time.
