When I change levels from one to the next all of my cyclers "models" from the first level appear in the next map in the same coresponding places. How do I fix this?
Is there a way to just change the map to the new one by loading the next map instead of actually being transported to the new map. As in the game would simply trigger the second map to be started from the info_player_start. This would probably fix the problem.
Edit, I have found that if I make them a cycler_sprite instead the models disappear in the next level. I can make sprites a model in a certain way. Guess this will work.
It sucks to know I may not be able to finish. Schools coming up in twenty days and with work and a busy schedule its hard to find time to map like I used to. And i'd rather do something all the way or not at all. And early extension to an extra twenty days or so would be nice even though we were given so much time in the first place. Anyone else agree? If not i'll just have to shun a lot of things and plan better. Hmm, plan better or procrastinate and beg for extension? I blame it on you guys for giving us so many extensions.
You know what I mean? No because these faces portray no emotion whatsoever lol.
Cool, I have episode two so I will get to play your entry! Only because I bought orange box though, how come so many people map for ep2 and not just hl2?
Well I guess I can assume it has more content but you could always just copy and paste stuff from it into your hl2 directory so that more people could play your entry.
Awesome. Well I mapped for about fifteen hours straight today. All I stopped for was to eat and mow the yard. I'd say i'm maybe 25 percent done on my comp entry myself if that.
Wow have you improved or what joe!
I'm definitely going all out on this one, glad to here you are too tet!
So I found out how to place an env_sprite or cycler_sprite in hammer and set its "sprite" field to a "model" without crashing hammer. Just take the model out of its folder and than in hammer create your env_sprite or cycler_sprite and set its sprite field to the model with its original location and everything. Than compile the map. It will not run saying the model cant be found. Than just place the model back in the folder and run the map and it will work! This is great for things such as grass models being walk throughable.
Also I converted de_plaka to a map file to see how they made their seagull fly and they used a cycler_sprite so it is a must to get the flying seagull model to work in your half life maps!
WOW! I didn't know there was a mirror tool either! Nice job joe, is that your compo entry? You sure are showing a lot of it before the comp is over if it is.
Well I haven't mapped much for about a week due to a break up and being cheated on. Mapping alone on my computer just makes me sad right now. Hope I can finish I have so much to do.
Is it ok if I use some models I didn't make in my entry. There are quite a few plant and tree models and some prop models that don't contribute majorly to the value of my entry but help with some basic things. And the tree and plant models i'm using are used by everyone. I just remember rim being disqualified for his use of the zelda models so I wanted to make sure I could use these models.
Lol that would be pretty funny. But focus on one lol, well I guess you could do one for each engine pertaining to there limitations but than it wouldn't push you to do more with gold and it would permote you to do less with source.
Glad to hear that. I love a good competition. There were many for this theme so hopefully they will all enter. I've gotten quite a bit in for my entry so far already.
This is a competition, not a group project. It doesn't have to be the best but if it isn't than it simply won't win. Winning or atleast placing is what you should generally shoot for.
Yea monday im leaving for a week to a bay home so i'll only have a pen and paper till I get back. I'll have Plenty of time to finish though, who wouldn't?
I made a fishing reel out of knex. A big gear span a smaller one giving it about a 2.5 to 1 ratio I think. Kinda more mechanical than scientific but really cool. I'll post a pic later.
Careful what you say guys, he is a legend. Well it seems like we could pick the winner and move on or do the extended vote thing you guys were talking about but I think i'm going to get started anyways.
I think its a little late because most people have already voted. Yet another one fallen to the doubt of making a dream! Cmmon it won't be that hard. Im surprised the competition hasn't started yet, i'm sure everyone's already planning and stuff.
Well if we go by the vote from this thread map a dream wins for sure. If something else won atleast i'd have been being creative and thoughtful. So what are your ideas on "science" anyway. That is one I have no idea what I would make. Science just makes me think of beakers and glass tubes and electricity.
Just think about cool stuff that you can map your self experiencing as if it were a dream. And map it. Surreal is idealy what it is but just make it a dream. Haven't you ever flew in a dream? How about went to cool neat places. Just make it a strange but cool adventure or even a scary one.
If you think about it all a dream is is thoughts. So really anything you can think of could be a dream. Just map cool places you can imagine being and it would make an awesome dream if you ask me.
Just judge on creativeness. It can be random and weird but most dreams make "some" sense and pertain "somewhat" to your real life and whats going on. Im not saying mine isn't going to be extremely weird but if it wins my dream will be both weird and somewhat symbolic and realistic in ways. Not all dreams are all good or all bad. It could be some good and some bad.
Just making a xen map or anything might qualify but I don't think it would win. Unless you made it seem like a dream somehow.
