I'm sure I've said this before, probably numerous times in your numerous previous threads, but I'll try again.

It is awesome that you are so enthusiastic and want to make games. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

However, a large part of growing up is learning to be realistic and you seem to have a real habit of biting off more than you can chew.
You start full mods before you've released a single standalone map, you start writing novels before you've written a short story and you start making games without any experience what-so-ever in the engine you want to make it in.

You have yet to finish a single project that you've created a thread about on this forum, afaik. Rather than running too fast into these hurdles, perhaps you should change to a pace that'll allow you to bound over them soon enough.

Your attitude of "I will oversee other people doing the majority of the work" will never get you anywhere until you have some sort of incentive to make them do it.

in Does Map of the Month still exist? Post #301322
Yes there is no chance of the map of the month returning what a ridiculous notion it is all gone and nothing remains of it whatsoever what a shame oh well best to leave it in the past and get on with life as they say yes sir that's some good advice and no mistake I can't think of any viable reason to even speculate on anything contrary to what I just said and to do so would be nothing short of madness madness I say madness which reminds me have you noticed how expensive blueberries are these days now that is the real madness don't you agree it's basically daylight robbery anyway I digress and you probably have far more important things to be getting on with unrelated to anything I've said or even anything in this thread at all now that you mention it it's quite a dull thread and I expect it could probably be locked anyway just to prevent the possibility of someone wasting their time by posting in it when as was mentioned earlier the map of the month will never return thus nullifying the already fairly pointless existence of this futile thread here is a link about picking your own blueberries which is an intelligent alternative to buying them in this harsh economical climate.

That's a really neat method to flesh out a layout, zeeba! Love it.

This is still extremely WIP, but the atmosphere of this area is really starting to come together. You can pretty much ignore all of the back wall and ceiling - I'm well aware they're terribly dull. Just slapped them there to do a test compile.

Yeah, now using 2k textures & the 4GB launcher. The fact that skyrim was limited to only using 2gb of my system memory is so retarded. No wonder there were framerate plunges.

3 Imperials attacking a Stormcloak courier on a random road. I leap into action and slay the 3 imperials, noticing as I do that I gain a bounty in the nearby imperial town. Oh well, these things happen.

Go to talk to the stormcloak to see what she's doing.
"Hey! I recognise you! There's a bounty on your head! Pay up or go to jail!"

So she wants to arrest me for saving her life.

Skyrim has a wizarding college.
That wizarding college has an expansive library.
Characters make repeated references to the fact that such a large collection of magical books creates a powerful magical field.
The librarian is not an ape who says "oook."

What gives?

Skyrim is a beautiful place, but the engine itself is pretty disappointing graphically imo.
I was expecting to be blown away and instead it just feels exactly the same as the fallout 3 engine. Low res textures and all. It's also fairly terribly optimized in places. Some interior dungeons suffer unexplainable framerate drops even on my super rig. Urby noticed them as well and his pc was almost £3,000 iirc.

It's a great game, but so many things piss me off about it.

nope. all my maps are based on real-world locations I've visited/worked in.
If it was based on that shot it'd be a lot dirtier, but the real location isn't despite being 2 levels underground. For that reason I won't be making it look like it's been drenched.

in Custom decals? Post #301167
Goldsource decals are pretty horrendous, and you'll get a much better result from duplicating the texture you want to put them on and adding them manually to it in an image editing program. That way they can be multicoloured and higher res.

1. Choose the texture you want to add the decal to.
User posted image
2. Open the .wad in Wally and find the texture. Then export it.
User posted image
3. Open that image in an application like Photoshop and manually apply the decal. Blending modes can make it look like it's actually painted on.
Add it back into the .wad with a new name so it doesn't overwrite the original and woop, you've got a detailed decal.

This mod introduces a whole new gamemode to half-life
There's your problem.
Multiplayer Goldsource mods are pointless now because multiplayer games require several active servers to remain active and Goldsource just doesn't have the playerbase required for a new mod to break into the "market".

If there are no active, populated servers players will download the mod, try the maps alone and then never play it again.

Even Source multiplayer mods have this problem, and Source is a far more popular engine. At least if you made it in Source you'd have a chance to break through, though. In Goldsource, you'll never manage. Don't waste your time.

/Reality Archie

Edit:
Also vehicles in Goldsource suck in 100% of cases. What were you thinking?

I built the very bare foundations of a bridge between my house and Grim's fort. I mean the absolute bare minimum that just spanned the gap and nothing more. Just a flat path.
I then left the server just as Grim was joining.

I came back 2 hours later to find this.

So considering half of my Steam friends list is at any given time playing Skyrim, I assume some of you will have it.
What do you think so far? Do you have any cool stories & screenies to share? Try to keep spoilers to a minimum!

Because I'm on really long-day shoots all this week I've barely had a chance to play it, but the intro was pretty rubbish which is especially disappointing considering how spot-on they got Fallout 3's.

Urby assures me that it gets much, much better once you leave the tunnels so I'll definitely keep playing.

The absolute worst part of it is the interface, though. It's atrociously bad. Clearly designed with consoles in mind over PCs and I eagerly await a mod to fix it.

So far very disappointing, but I can't wait to get into it properly.

i would love that, but I'm cynical and realistic. Too many people are too stupid to let that happen. Look at the recent carbon tax in Australia. It only passed by a majority of like 2 people. That means that almost half of the political representatives in Australia would rather massive companies go unpunished for failing to fight emissions. And i'm not trying to put down the aussies btw. Just a very recent example.

@nineTnine

the planet isn't getting any healthier. Amazingly there are still people who don't believe in climate change as if it's a choice. That, combined with rising tension between the US & North Korea and the US & Russia and the US & China makes me wonder how getting the option to leave this rock if it comes to it isn't near the top of everyone's priorities list.

I love my planet, but i don't have enough faith in humanity to not want an escape route - if not for me then for my kids.
