in The orange box again. Post #235708
I'm buying it retail strictly because I want the DVD, I have HL2 and EP1 on DVD, and i'm not going to miss EP2 on DVD. It'll probably be $90-100 but I really do not care, I pay the same amount for any other game every couple of months, and i'm getting 3 in one package.

While it is a great deal cheaper on Steam I'm just not willing to pass up an actual, physical copy of it in case of.. y'know, problems. Waiting 8 extra days is no problem either.

in Custom Content for Source Post #235516
It's probably not so much that it's hard, it's that it's a much longer and more aggravating process to make custom content. The majority of good quality custom content for Source is devoted to major mods at the moment, too.

It's just the way it is for the moment.

Pretty much. There's quite a bit of freedom to play around with this layout, as such there shouldn't be many problems with finding a suitable theme.
The alcoves in green are optional additions, and are examples of where the layout can be varied slightly without breaking the rules.
They can be walkable space, but they shouldn't really be anything more than minor additions to the layout, such as closed doorways or archways (so no stretching corridors, vents, etc.). Or, if you wish, they could be lookout points for vistas. It's up to you.

Heh, mapping for this is a load of fun. And being viewed from only one angle opens up more opportunity (visually) for cool little effects.

I started working on this little map earlier today. It's still early, but playing around in-game is highly entertaining.

Dear lord, this thread is killing my internet connection.

Are pictures really necessary? They should at least be limited to something very small.

Games i've played and love:
Wolfenstein/Spear of Destiny,
Doom (1, 2 and 3),
Mario Bros/Smash Bros/Melee,
Banjo Kazooie (1 and 2),
Goldeneye/Perfect Dark,
Quake/Quake II/Quake II (not IV),
Max Payne (1 and 2),
Splinter Cell series (even the sloppy recent one),
Unreal Anthology,
Serious Sam (1 and 2),
Half-Life/Half-Life 2 + Episodes,
Bioshock.

Games i'm playing now or looking forward to:
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars,
The Orange Box,
Halo 3 (Yes, you read that correctly, and no, I don't like the first one),
Call of Duty 4, maybe.

Older games I never got into, but am trying to now:
All the old C&C games,
Metal Gear Solid,
Paper Mario (<3),
System Shock II.

Yes, you can use IRC in Opera by default. You need to go to Tools, then Mail and Chat accounts to set it up.

There's no need to install a program like mIRC when it's all handily built into your web browser.

And to all future #twhl users: prepare yourself with a wicked sense of humour, you will need it. ;)

In Steam, go to Games > Activate a product on Steam.. then use your Platinum collection CD-Key.

Unfortunately, this means you'll have to redownload the Steam version of Half-Life and it's expansions, so your current non-steam installation is useless when it comes to Steam.

I find programs like CodeStuff Starter and Process Explorer, when used in conjunction with sites like Process Library are handy tools to have around for when certain bad files get too deep, when you need to understand exactly what processes are doing what, or when a program needs to be forcefully closed (taskmanager can be terribly ineffective).

Diskeeper is a great defrag utility, it has more options than the typical windows tools, but i'm not sure if it has Vista support yet. It's also good for optimising your paging file size to minimise file fragmentation as much as possible. And lastly, TuneUp Utilities is a good all purpose system cleaner, it can do basic registry clean-ups, memory optimisation and integrity checks, again though, i'm not sure if it's Vista compatible yet.

I'm sure you're more than aware of the various virus scanners and such, so I won't go into those.

It's the second show since they're mid-year break, and yeah, the future of the show is a little in doubt at the moment. One of the people charged is the executive producer of the show.

I'm a little worried they'll be given a harsh sentence so that the Police can show they mean business, but it's also a case of the Police just being red-faced from their security being breached so easily.

Who knows, we'll need to wait until October 4th to find out what will happen.
