Yeah, I really don't see what the big deal is.
I mean, maybe if you bought TF2 the day before it became free or something - that'd be a bitch, but most people got it as part of the Orange Box which was what, £35 for 5 of the best games that year? That's £10 cheaper than one copy of Black Ops. And look at Modern warfare 3 - it's STILL going to be £45 and will charge a subscription fee to play online.

You have no right to be angry at Valve for making their games free when companies like Activision are fucking up the entire market - charging £10 for 3 maps and getting away with it? Shocking.

Be happy that a dying game (in terms of player numbers) is going to get a massive population boost, and that the micro-transactions will continue to support mappers and modellers just like you.

Got right back into Oblivion, possibly due to excitement over Skyrim.

I had forgotten how good the Shivering Isles DLC is, specifically Sheogorath and his unbelievably good voice acting and dialogue.

The game itself costs money. It's a one-off purchase, and there are no subscription fees.
If you want professional hosting of a server, it will cost quite a lot, though. MC servers require a lot of RAM, so they cost more than standard game servers.

SnC server had a different world every month, for its 3 month lifespan.
You can see the popularity peaked in world 2, and by world 3 there were only 4 or so regulars, which is why the server will discontinue at the end of the current billing cycle (July 7th)

Archie, did you record and are you going to make a highlight movie like last time?
No. I actually planned to, but I totally forgot. Urby was on Teamspeak with me about half way through the second half of the match when I was like "Oh shit, I should probably have Fraps running!"
that is a pretty neat lottery system too, btw!
Same system we used for the retro maps tournament. I first came across it when I worked in a LAN gaming centre. They did daily frag lottos with £50 prizes. Was pretty great. Then HMV bought the company and made it all about console gaming, and just in general shit.
At least I won something.
No. If anything you lost the most, having whined for days about not having CS, then rage quitting before the match started.

Thanks for all the amazing feedback on the map, guys! To answer the question I keep hearing: Will I ever update this with a fix for the truck and ramp clipping error?
No. Sorry, I hate mapping for GS too much. Also it's been released for a while now, and has about 750 downloads on gamebanana, and I'd hate to have 2 versions of the .bsp floating around if I updated it.
I'm working on a Source version which is already much, much bigger. I personally really quite liked how compact this map was, but several people suggested that it should be bigger due to spawns being too close, rounds being too short and footsteps being too audible.

The winner will be kill-ticket based again, like the Retro tournament was.
The person with the most kills won't necessarily win, but they'll stand the greatest chance of doing so.
The match will be two fifteen-minute halves.
Deaths don't have any influence on the outcome, and score will be noted by a screenshot of the end of each round.

in counterstrike cz not working. Post #295595
At least one other person on the Steam forums has reported the issue as well, but no solution was found in the thread.
Exiting Steam and deleting CZ's hl.exe, then restarting steam and trying to play it to force it to re-download was suggested, but the OP never reported if it worked.

Also try right clicking on it in Steam, go to the local files tab and "verify integrity of game cache"

Hey Tetsuo, any progress on the map? Only I'm probably going to stop paying for the server after the de_twhl2011 match and it'd be a shame if you miss a chance to get your map on a public server. Let me know how far away it is from being playable and I'll keep the server up long enough to give it a go.

It's currently paid for until the 5th of July, so if you can get it done before then so that I don't have to pay for another month that'd be awesome.

I totally agree with your comparisons to CoD2, and it amazes me that the series hasn't really evolved from there.
I really enjoyed Modern Warfare 1, but only because the characters and suspense were absolutely pin sharp right from the word "go".
You can't do the exact same thing again in MW2 and expect it to have the same effect. And it's not even as good as MW1. The writing is rubbish and the characters are drab and uninspiring.
The plot twists are pedestrian and predictable and by the time someone nukes space I had just about fallen asleep from the cookie-cutter combat.

Modern Warfare 2. It's exactly what I expected. Played it briefly on a mate's xbox when it was released and wasn't especially impressed. Figured I must be missing something considering it's more popular than breathing, so I bought it when it was half price on Steam yesterday.

It's rubbish. Seriously, painfully rubbish. I'm about 8 'missions' into the campaign so far, and every single one has been EXACTLY the same.
Advance, wave of enemies, advance, wave of enemies, advance, wave of enemies, ad infinitum...
The levels are uninspiring and generic looking. The best one was the second mission where you infiltrate a snowy base, and I couldn't see most of it due to a snow storm, so make of that what you will.

Autosaves are so regular that the devs feel they can get away with pulling bullshit un-winnable ambushes, because they know you'll just reload and play the moment again, but this time expecting it and therefore overcoming it.

Not even an angry Scottish captain is enough to redeem this utterly bland piece of over-hyped, instantly forgettable trash.

And the multiplayer is just CoD4 again.

MAP RELEASED!
PROMO VIDEO

trigger_auto was only working for 1 round, Skals. Don't know why. Presumably it's a common problem though, otherwise why would anyone bother writing a tutorial about the door method (which worked perfectly).

Anyway, the map is released! Yaaay.
If a mod wants to adjust the first post in this thread with the updated link, that'd be great.

Grab the final map here!

Want to see how I did something?
Check out the source files (rmf and wad) here!
Please do not steal my content. I'm happy for you to learn from this map, and you're welcome to use the .wad (although crediting me would be nice), but please don't directly copy from the map.

Edit:
You know, I still have that server we hosted the TWHL retro tournament on. I'd be willing to host a match on this for a modest prize. What date/time would suit everyone?
Could I entice competitors into writing reviews of the map, or is that extortion? :3
