After reading through this thread, all I can say is that zeeba lives in a fucked up place and should move, there are way too many fucked up people in this world, "sexual harassment" is different to sexual assualt, and that I don't give a fuck what America's constitution says, guns don't make the problem of guns worse, but they sure as hell don't make it any better. Localized example, I think guns are a really fucking bad idea anywhere, on anyone.

Honest critisicm?
The very first sentence reeks of uncreativity. The moment I read Mt. Firestrike, my mind cringed. By the time I was finished reading the first paragraph, it was pretty obvious you're more or less trying to cover up the lack of detail with a plethora of locations (intentionally or not). I got to the word "elvish-crafted" and I stopped reading.

Seriously, the whole point of fantasy novels is that it uses the imagination of the reader to intriege the reader. From the impression I get from the first two paragrahs, yours was going to be a recycling of any other damn fantasy book with elves and such.

So I think I fitting quote for me: "Can't you tell this story is not gripping me? I am in a state of non-gripness. I am completely smegging ungrippèd! Shut the smeg up!"

in Dreams Post #297048
I just have pretty standard dreams, as far as I know. People and places from my life (places are usually altered, yet somehow I still know what location they are), just usually in random situations (usually without much logic behind them), and with very little actual link between sections.

Also, I am usually "feebled" (for want of a better word) in my dreams. For example, sometimes I'll be simply unable to move when confronted by something. In one I was desperately trying to get a message to my girlfriend, but when texting I simply could not get the typing right. Often I cannot achieve my short term goals in my dreams, simply because events continually impede me.

EDIT: While I'm on the topic, a couple weeks ago I had a dream that me and my girlfriend had a kid, and at the same time there was some psycho (looked like simon pegg and acted kinda like a kid who went to my primary school for a while, who actually was a little psycho) who seemed determined to either kill me or my family or both, something like that. Scared me, to be honest.

I have a spent ages on my bio only to have the password inconsistancy (which TWHL more or less causes) more than once. It is incredibly frustrating when it happens. One important (imo) comment:
The thing is she came at it with the perspective that she already believes in mormon and all the inbetween junk "the mormon scripture" she bends and twists it to make sense.
This happens more than you must think. Really, a hell of a lot of people do this, in their own way and to their own extremity. It's the reason anyone still has religious debates.
People come to their conclusions and don't want others to shift them, religious or otherwise. If something is almost conclusively proven wrong, people will go to a similar idea that still works.
People want to believe (or not believe, if that's the case).

How would you selectively choose what to interact with? And how would you not fall through the ground? Hypothetically though, still an interesting concept.

Actually reflecting electromagnetic waves arount you is probably a little too impossible. Though, what if like you said, there was a way you could get the waves to conform to your body? Say, if you could somewhat repel incoming waves as they approached and draw them back as they passed so that they swung around you, like your boulder in stream model.

The only real way yo could remotely do invisibility today would be to display visual information from your far side and display it on the visble side. Though it would be really dodgy, and I can't see it happening on more than one side at once.

How do you think true invisibility could be achieved? You'd either need to devise a way to make light be able to pass through you, or a way to reflect light around you yet be projected as though it just went straight, I guess. Any thoughts?

Come to think of it, how is glass see-through? What's so special about its composition?

Because it's not one simple, well-understood word, probably. Could use a name for them.

Wow, topics all over the place.

So Hunter, your beef isn't with believeing in god or following the commandments or anything like that, you just find following organised religion and story in the bible absurd?

Someone I know said she became bisexual after she was so hurt by her father cheating on her mother.

I guess being able to see in thermal isn't so unrealistic, it's just being able to sense a different wavelength of the same stuff as the light we've already got.

I thought the Pokémon thing I said would generate a bit of discussion, but religion really sticks to these threads, dunnit?

Time travel = catch a wild Dialga.

We continue ourselves while time kills us off. We're kind of in a war against time, in a "big picture" kind of way... Once you can control time (not just travel), you can do any bloody thing. Maybe that should be considered a pinnacle of evolution, the purpose of life. Think about it... what can't you achieve with the manipulation of time? Create a new highly evolved creature in a matter of moments instead of millenia! Travel to the furtherest reaches of the universe in seconds! Go and collect your money from the bank a thousand years from now and get several billion dollars thanks to interest! Watch the creation of Earth in a David Attenborough-style time-lapse-y documentary! Ok, my imagination sucks. But can you see what I'm getting at?

EDIT, now that Strikers post has appeared: We don't know if anything is present in the dimensions above ours. If there's a god that exists in the fourth dimension, then maybe there's beings in dimensions even higher than him. Maybe god has a god.

The topic flowed, people got touchy about who they trust, and the topic got re-geared.
I honestly don't know why people get so defensive about their religious beliefs. Personally, I couldn't give a damn whether a deity or a explosion came to produce me. It happened ages ago, so either way, it doesn't affect me in the slightest, no matter what I believe.

Also, thank you for changing the topic, Mcrich114.

As for mind reading, I don't think the human brain is clear-cut enough for us to be able to clearly and completely understand anyone elses thoughts. Not anytime soon, anyhow.
twins do have some kind of connection, even ending up with the same, occupation, vehicle, spouses of the same name, etc, if they were separated at birth. It's been documented.
Probably because no-one gives a shit when they don't. It not happening is probably a hell of a lot more common. It's a really interesting subject though, I'd love for you to prove me wrong.

Given that god is infinite, and that the universe is also infinite... would you like a toasted teacake?

Quotes aside. I don't think that happiness is the meaning of life. At least, not in literal terms. In literal terms, we exist to continue the existance of our species. So what's the purpose of ALL of our existances? For individuals, it seems that we exist TO exist. Us having a "purpose" implies that someone/something had a need and we would have been created to fill it, which would work with some religions. But apart from that theory, is it just that we were randomly brought about by the progression of the universe?

On the other hand, if god or any other deity/race/whatever DID create the human race, why? Are we like HL maps, created out of enjoyment of creation, or to be shown off to our creator's friends? Or maybe they were just lonely, in which case we're the equivalent of an ant farm or a pet?

I recently bought my woman the hl series pack off of steam. I've bought her games on steam previously, and she has been using it for quite some time with no issue. However, right about the point in time that I bought her the hl stuff, her steam has been screwing up something awful. It began benignly enough with just saying that she couldn't install some games due to the steam servers being busy (which a little insistance worked through). But now the games are actually on there, certain ones say that "the game is currently unavailable". Not only this, but some games she already had and that had been working fine for months have started coming up with the same error. Oddly, it seems to only affect games with multiplayer... HL, HL:OP4, TFC, HL2:DM, TF2 and L4D come up with the error, yet HL:BS, HL2, HL2:EP1 and HL2:EP2 work as per usual. (Her Assassin's Creed Brotherhood works, but that may be because it runs more off of Ubisoft than Steam.)

At times while Steam is running, it also seems to lose connection (that's what it says), yet games seem to continue downloading. At the same time she seems to lose connection to her friends list too, saying that no-one is online. Also the last time we tried logging her in, three or so of her friends had simply disappeared from her list.

Any suggestions? Steam's being a real bitch on this one.
