in Buying a laptop. Help. Post #293580
Source2009 is not that demanding and with $1650 to spare you'll easily be able to get quite a capable machine.

I mean, here's a quick find on ebuyer:
HP G62-452SA Laptop

Intel® Core ™ i3-350M Processor 2.26GHz
3GB RAM + 320GB HDD
15.6" HD LED
Webcam + HDMI
Free Internet Security + Free Carry Case
Charcoal with Prism pattern
Windows 7 Home Premium

It's about twice as powerful as your current PC at only £368.99, but hold off because it's an integrated graphics chip which is guaranteed to drive you mad.
Not really recommending that one, just pointing out that your task is easily doable.

Personally I'd go for this:
Samsung RV511 Laptop

Intel Core i5-480M 2.66GHz
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
15.6" HD LED Gloss
NVIDIA GeForce 315M
Webcam + Bluetooth
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

£608.56 (around 993 USD)

Pretty darn powerful and a proper graphics card.

Edit:
I don't know what ebuyer are like in the USA, but definitely check them out. They tend to have pretty unbeatable deals on fully built systems.

Well the Scotch part of it, anyway. Urby fell asleep ;D

Also, if any of you feel bad that you missed it, you can check out the HLTV demos here.
Instructions on how to play them included, and they're sorted by map.

de_dragos and de_watertower were probably the highlights in terms of pure fun, and the demos show that.

If you'd read earlier, the ticket system is like a raffle.

This is how it works out:
001 - 195 = Freshy
196 - 349 = Striker
350 - 493 = Mariowned
494 - 635 = Nefarious
636 - 749 = Soup Miner
750 - 846 = Blitz
847 - 906 = Skals
907 - 965 = Potatis
966 - 987 = X-LAyer2

We put a 1-987 in a random number generator, run it 3 times (3 is a nice number) and the winner is the number it spits out.

Also worth noting is that daubster had 103 tickets, but chose not to be included in the prize draw because he adminned for us tonight. Nice of him :)

Also, there were a total of 987 kills, excluding myself and daubeh's.

Your tickets:

1. Freshy - 195
2. The_(c)Striker - 154
3. Mariowned - 144
4. Nefarious - 142
5. Soup Miner - 114
6. Blitzkrieg - 97
7. Skals - 60
8. Potatis_invalido - 59
9. X-LAyer2 - 22

The more tickets you have, the more likely you'll win.
Winner will be announced (hopefully) within an hour.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I remind you that the tournament begins tonight at 8pm UK time. Here's a handy steam event to help you work out what time that is in your time-zone.

The tournament will keep going until all submitted maps have been played. That's potentially a very long time, but that's a good thing because it means people from different time zones will still get a chance to play.

As I've said before - you don't have to be there at the start and you don't have to be there at the end. Just log on for a few maps at some point during the tournament and rack up some kills. The more you play, the more likely you are to get kills, but it's not a requirement to play for the entire duration.

The tournament end will be signalled with a post here and the server returning to an official cs map at which point kills will cease to be recorded. We estimate this to be around 2am British time, but it could be drastically longer or shorter depending on how long rounds last.

Make sure you have all the maps before you join. A .zip with all of them can be found here:
http://hunter.weebitmagic.com/files/maps/twhl_retro_tournament_maps_v1.zip

Playing order will be randomized, but here's a full list:

de_dragos
de_space
aim_oldzone
aim_shotgun
cs_aztec2
cs_control
cs_urbanbend
de_dome
de_splinter_clan
de_watertower
fy_rook
gyradell

The map will get a strikethrough when it has been played.

Finally saw Tron Legacy. Gotta agree with what was said earlier in the thread. Not nearly as bad as I had heard - thoroughly entertaining throughout. Sure it's as deep as a teaspoon, but just take it for what it is and you'll enjoy it.
And yeah, Thirteen never looked so good.

Very creative, but look at the size of your players compared to the props!
The oil drums are the size of people and the truck is about twice as big as a real one.

keep in mind that there are a lot of maps.
It's likely to keep going for several hours.
You don't have to be there from the start, and you don't have to be there at the end - your kills will still count.
I was thinking we could choose the winner in the same way my old work (LAN gaming centre) used to do it, which was a ticket-based system.
Every kill gives you a ticket in what is essentially a raffle. The more tickets you have - the more likely you'll win - but it's not a guarantee.

That'd ensure that if someone was crazy enough to stay for the entire tournament, they wouldn't necessarily win just by having most kills through being there the longest.

Also note that there will be 2 runner up prizes.

de_mon isn't part of the tournament. It's just on the server because it's a very unique map which provides interesting gameplay.

Crollo, I'm not comfortable with you competing in the tournament. I'm providing the server and the prize, and to be frank I don't think your behaviour (not necessarily in this thread) should allow you to take part. You'll be banned if you try to join during the tournament and continued trolling on the forums will result in a ban during the intermittent time, as well as banning from future game servers I provide for the community.

But think about it - if you have 3 votes then the best entries are going to be repeatedly voted for ensuring they'll place well.

It will produce a much more balanced result. Other websites use the 3 vote system and it works very well, especially if you're going to allow self-voting.

One vote for your own, one vote for your absolute favourite, one vote for your second favourite.

It's goldsource. Look at the lack of texture filtering.
If you're saying Source because of the anti-aliasing, modern video cards can force it on older games.

You've somehow managed to make an entire 6-page design document and a forum post without once mentioning any of the absolute key points about this game.
For starters: What is it? Is it a mod? What engine does it use? Is it even 3D? How will it play? Why are experienced coders needed? For what?

Then more finicky points:
When is this set?
Why are there Soviets in Australia?
What is the purpose of any of the events you've written?
Why are US Marines using AK-47s?
Radiation beast? What? Why?
Why have you peppered your design document with a meaningless Copyright statement? Read up on what footers are in Word.

This is not a planned out idea. It's more like a series of possible moments in a game which might be cool, but with no greater story or purpose guiding the player, they'll just be confused.

And seriously - I read all 6 pages and I still don't have a clue even remotely what form this might take.

I did however lol at:
Kenyan - Enemy and Friend, depending on which version of the game the player chooses. They are easily startled.
Fists - Found in Chapter One

Hey guys, just so you know this is still happening!

The server is now live and Daubster is doing some much-needed tinkering before we announce an actual date for the tournament.
There is still time to get your maps involved.

The server has 12 slots and is hosted in Frankfurt to cater to the broadest range of TWHLers. Americans will have a ping of about 110, which is still playable. Anywhere in central Europe, including the UK and Scandinavia you'll get less than 70.
