Haha damn. I don't really remember my HL maps but I think I had some unreleased ones which I thought were ok. Might enter this :D With 15 pounds I could buy half of Crysis 2.

I don't have a map, but I'll compete in the tournament if it's all the same.

Can non-twhl affiliates enter the tournament as well?

Once the server goes up, and once we have a decent number of submissions, I think a few practice nights should be hosted for everyone to get accustomed to the maps in play.

EDIT:
Also, we've changed the map submission date from Jan 2007 to Dec, allowing entries from more recently joined members (a.k.a non-old-farts).
Submit away!

Psilous: Let's keep it TWHL-only. I don't think any of us is a pro player, and I'd hate to see random well-trained outsiders that have nothing to do with the community rushing in just to grab the prizes.

And you can't get more retro than this map.

Anyway please set a good time for this tourney, preferably the weekend. Well at least I hope so.

Should we keep it as "Must have been made before a specific date" or change it to "Must be one of your first 3 maps" or something.

If I can't succeed buying Cs 1.6 by the time this tournament starts, I hope some nice guys from around here will at least record some footage with you playing :).

Searching on google after my map, found this on egir. I can't believe that site is still alivel

Hah, same goes for de_watertower. Must be a common thing for starting mappers. :D

As for buying CS, just ask a friend/relative with a debit card to get it for you (it's only 6 pounds). That's how I got my first steam games back in the day.

The server's hosted in London. You'll probably get <100 if you're on the east coast.

£15 (GBP), not dollars. It's about $25 (USD).

We're keeping the date submitted restriction, I'm afraid. The point of this is to have a blast on maps we haven't played in years and years.

The funny thing is, the creators of each map will have a sneaky advantage since they made it and know the layout like the back of their hands.

I look forward to facing such opponents.

I'm trying to find a map that's both old and not total shit, and I've come to realize that I have never made a map that doesn't look like it was made by a 4-year-old.
And that's very discouraging. So I won't be submitting any maps for this.

I would, however, like to compete.

You're probably already aware of this, but be REALLY careful about picking balanced maps out of the submissions. The map types give inherent advantages to Ts or CTs.

Most cs_ maps are totally unfair to the CTs because the Ts have high ground + they can camp the round out to win + the CTs usually have to return the hostages to a single point.
De_ maps are a little more fair, but completely unfair for Ts if there's only one bomb site.
As_ maps with one rescue location are, again, completely unfair to CTs.

Edit: I guess team victories don't matter so much if the winnings are dished out completely separate from who actually won the rounds. Still, just try your best to keep it balanced :

Also be wary about only one person getting winnings per map in a team-based game. Players are going to be competing against their own team members for #1 on the server, so kill steals and generally selfish behavior is probably going to happen.

Aim maps are best for tournaments (small ones) and also DD2.

Soup Miner, I think my map balances out the number of bomb sites with the apparent CT advantage(one of the bomb sites is a dead end).

I'd say one of your first 3 maps, as not many of the older members are even around regularly anymore, and I'd like to compete (with one of my maps). :)

Or.. you could simply do away with round wins and objectives.. by installing this into the servcer:

Counter-Strike Deathmatch (FFA, eliminating the team behaviorisms of people blocking for their friends and stuff.)

I imagine it's something like this:

1. Wait until tournament announced
2. Launch CS 1.6
3. Play
4. ???

The only 'entering' or 'registering' is for the retro compo I imagine, which will decide which maps we will play on the tournament server.
You do not need to enter to play in the tournament

I don't really believe in conspiracy theories, but I just noticed some odd new members showing up.
Hunter, is this a strategy of attracting new 13 year old counterstrike faggots to TWHL? Google does a wonder attracting them when there are prizes involved.

The first phrase might not be true.

Stojke:
This is not a clan match running on CPL-approved maps. It's not as much about competing as it is about the maps submitted. The main point is to dust off your oldest projects, giving them a shot in competitive play just for fun. Anyone can hop aboard a random CM for d2/inf/nuke play - no point in organizing one ourselves.
As for ping, seeing how you're from Europe, yours should definitely be playable.

Soup:
Most of these maps have never been playtested for competetive play, and will most likely favour one team over the other. This can be easily solved as long as you swap the teams after half the rounds have been played. I'm probably thinking after 15, out of a total 30 rounds per map.
As for fighting over kills, I'm sure we can figure out some sort of rule to encourage teamwork/fighting for map objectives. Say, every round won by your team adds 1 to your kill count or something. We'll figure it out.

Psilous:
The tournament will be in vanilla CS, no mods, no bullshit. We might get AMX/stats up for easier score tracking, and maybe HLTV for demos (depends on the turnout). Definitely no CSDM though.

Striker:
I'm sure we'll manage to filter out obvious randomers registering just to cash in on the prizes.

I totally forgot about swapping teams halfway through. Whoops.
