Desperately trying to finish the massive Dragon Age before the sequel is released. I don't have much time, since pre-loading started last night for Dragon Age 2.

Load it with Steam Overlay (even if you didn't buy it on Steam) and F12 (binding configurable in Steam settings) will save the screenshot to your Steam folder and will give you the option to upload it to the Steam Cloud when you quit the game.

Yeah, DiRT 2 does look great, and it's really good fun for a while as well. It demands you feel awesome at all times.

It's just a shame it's so Americanised. The X-games stuff just isn't nearly as fun as the rally stuff, which is sadly very minimalistic.
Colin McRae would not approve.

Firstly, what the hell does that have to do with this topic, Dimbark.

Secondly, Source mapping was "hip" and "in the now" about 3 years ago (many people have moved onto the Unreal engine), but it's a good idea to learn Source now so that you can develop something decent when Portal 2 brings out the next iteration of Source.

GTAIV requires a hell of a lot more memory than Breach does. In fact, Breach is using pretty ancient tech by today's standards.
What Breach lacks is an interesting look. Other than the destruction physics, it feels settled in tech that's three or four years old. Mixed texture quality can make battles feel incogruent, while hearing the sound of bullets pinging against metal when shooting a truck's tyres clashes with the fidelity of blowing holes in roofs. The upside of this, of course, is that it'll comfortably run on most systems.

in Bad Lights? Post #290700
Unlikely. Try reducing the number of lights until it compiles successfully, then add on more lights at lower brightness until it breaks again so that you can see where the limit is.

In Goldsource, even just 3 lights with different appearance settings can cause this issue, though.

windows says "hlrad.exe has crashed"
He's sure.

The "Too many light styles on face" error is caused when you have numerous light entities either with non-standard appearance settings (flicker etc) or even regular lights which are triggered on or off all touching one face. RAD can't handle the amount of light information it has to calculate for each possible "configuration" of lights which will be touching the face at any given time.

As far as I know, there is no fix for this error other than removing the offending lights and coming up with a work-around.
Perhaps toggled textures with glow sprites rather than actual lights?

all these informations come from people with money. Not necessarily Urby
Fucking lol'd.

And yes, I have money to spend on games, but when I didn't, I didn't pirate them either.
I have money because I work. I don't even work especially hard (my hard work goes into college atm) but I do a few freelance editing jobs, PC repair work and such on top of my actual job. The PC repair, pretty much all of you could probably do - and probably a lot better than me. Just put up an ad in your local newsagent or super market and charge a flat rate.

I notice that most of the people condoning pirating are the younger members of TWHL - the ones still at school. I find this interesting because you probably, like me, still live with your parents and therefore don't have any bills to pay. As such, any money you earn, unless you pay your parents rent, is yours to spend however you like.

Go make money. Stop pirating games. You make companies like Ubisoft fuck up their games for us people who actually buy them by filling them with godawful DRM.

The Mighty Atom, from this very site created a great standalone app which makes it super easy to control all aspects of your compile, whether you're using SHLT or ZHLT.
The Compilator
There's a much better version in beta testing right now as well, so if you find it a bit clunky, don't worry, it'll be improved soon!

Oh, and consider getting SHLT. It's a lot better.

I was having a quick glance at the Steam store, and was quite surprised to notice that the 3 games I most want, I had already pre-ordered. Surprised because I don't usually pre-order, so to have 3 games I think are going to be good enough to deserve it coming out within a month of each other is pretty amazing.

I'm sorted for the upcoming months, with Portal 2, Shogun 2 & Dragon Age 2 (year of the sequels?)
But what games have you found worthy of pre-order?

You've compiled with Fast VIS, or VIS hasn't been able to fully complete due to an error. That's definitely the reason for your map appearing in the skybox.

As for the shadow, it's probably the reason for that, too.

Top tip: Never buy anything from LG. It breaks literally weeks after the warranty ends.

But luckily I've just been paid ?400 from the government for being awesome.

So I got the updated version of my secondary monitor. Now I'm rockin' two 16:9 22" Viewsonic TFTs running at 1920 x 1080. So much neater than my previous setup of one 16:10 19" and one 16:9 22".

Some of you may have seen Urby's pilot episode for a show called In-Dev in which it was planned that myself and Urby would release on a fairly regular basis videos related to mod design. Not so much tutorials - more insights, tips, tricks and problems we've encountered in our combined 15 years of mod design.
As you may have noticed from the lack of further episodes, we're shit at producing regular Youtube content.

However, recently we've been broadcasting our mapping for The Core on an informal "every so often" basis, where we start broadcasting and then post about it in the shoutbox here and on ModDB. This spontaneity results in us rarely getting more than 15 viewers, but it is unbelievably valuable to us as designers, as we get live feedback on our mapping there are essentially 15 extra sets of eyes noticing problems that we quite easily overlook.

So we've decided to formalise it a bit and each have a weekly broadcast where we will map live for around an hour, talking through the process of what we're doing - giving tips and answering questions and feedback received in the comments.

I will be live every Wednesday evening at 22:00 GMT (17:00 EST)
and Urby will be live every Friday evening - probably at 22:00 as well. He'll confirm this soon.

This starts tomorrow (16th Feb) and you can tune in here:
