Been doing some Source mapping, but I can't get cubemaps to work.
After a fully successfull compile I use "buildcubemaps", but all it does is print "Can't load vtex.dll".

Using Half-Life 2 without mods, nothing changed.

Total Annihilation - The best RTS I've ever played, personally. Great gameplay. Me and my brothers used to have tournaments with this all the time.
Agreed, TA is the worlds best LAN game. I'm gonna try out Supreme Commander soon, which people say is pretty similiar to TA. I hope it's as fun. :D

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by before the mission, but the only thing you can do withouth coding is adding intro movies that play before the main menu shows up - altough I can't remember how. I think all you have to do is name your movie file intro.avi and place it in yourmod/media.
Ist there a coding thing you could do with visual basic or something(i don't code at all) that you click a dialog button that plays a movie, and then starts up the map? (like hammer or Muzz's launchpad can load maps?
Well, generally speaking most stuff within reasonable limits can be coded, it just a matter of knowing how - so yes. :P

I do the same when I map. I get an idea, open Hammer, make some rooms, run out of ideas and think "Oh look! A squirrel!" and go on to do something completely different.

I found some old mod projects the other day and I realized that I've started to make quite a few cool mods but never really finished anything.

So, in order to make sure my effort isn't totally lost I decided to make the ChickenFist museum of abandoned projects. And a few people has asked how I made som of the Flat-life features, so there's also Flat-Life source code avalible.

And to squeeze some discussion into this thread, do you have any old cool projects you abandoned?

Here's a small screenshot. Note the titled camera and how much better it looks ;)

One of the cooler features is the FLATL.U.S (Flat-Life User Stats - Swedish pun intended 0o). Basically it collects player stats during multiplayer games and adds them to a specified mysql database. After that player stats and toplists can easily be displayed on any website.

Also thought I should explain the new game mode:
mht_ stands for monsterhunt and can be set up in many different ways.
The base purpose is that there is one or a few very powerful monster(s) in the map that you have to kill. Upon death it will give some very powerful powerup for a short time or simply make you win the round depending on map setup.
Several monster spawns can be placed for variation each round.

So now, any more features requested? ;D

1.3 is coming up, and I hope it will be the last version for quite some time as spring is coming up. Therefore it's important that it includes everything it needs.

This is stuff it already has:

# Added new game mode: mht_. Read more about it in the "Multiplayer" section. (Possible more)
# Trigger_set_model, trigger_set_physics, trigger_set_camera and trigger_keyboard now works in multiplayer
# trigger_keyboard can now be used to check for key releases instead of presses
# Tilted platform camera slightly upwards. (Can be changed/toggled with "cam_platform_offset_y" cvar)
# Tweaked the server dll to work slightly better with dedicated server.
# Added some player statistics to dedicated servers
# Added "rank" and "toplist" console commands.
# Fixed monster crashes in multiplayer
# Added "Frags Rewarded" and "Team" keyvalues to all monster_ entities. See "Entity Guide" section
# Disabled +lookup and +lookdown in topdown mode
# Changing team while alive now removes a frag and adds a death (To prevent team changing spam)
# Bots will now also target monsters.
# Fixed multiplayer overflows
# Removed mp_allowmonsters cvar. Monsters will always be allowed if placed in map.
# Changed trigger_set_camera due to performance issues : it will now only set camera distance. Camera Mode should be set in map properties instead.
# Fixed bug with monster hitboxes in topdown mode
# Now returns proper name in server browser and not "HL Teamplay"
# Bots now work in platform mode.
# Red and blue team player models can no longer be used in normal multiplayer to prevent confusion.

That's not really a bug. It's in the FL manual actually. You'll have to turn all completely view-blocking walls to func_walls. Annoying, but it's the only way...

For now there's Invisiblity, Double-Damage and Suicide Bomber. And there's also few negative effects you can get if you take a random powerup such as Mega-Slow and Half-Damage.

saw, that's usually happens when either cg.dll, cgGL.dll, fmod.dll or devil.dll is missing. Are they all present in your half-life directory (not hl2d)?

Please remove the old thread or ignore it. The information there is no longer relevant, as it all concerns the prerelease version.

Flat-Life 1.0 is here. The last major version. Bugfixes and minor changes will be related later, though.

Flat-Life is a singleplayer/multplayer goldsource mod turning the game to a 2D-ish platform shooter type game.

Did this for Flat-Life recently.

There's an entry in liblist.gam
icon "gfx/icon", where icon is the name of the tga.

That's how it should be done.
However, that did not seem to work for me, but when I put a 16x16 ICO in the main mod folder it worked.

Maybe you should keep an updated list of flat-life map links in 1st post of the popularity drive thread, along with the latest version of the game (which I think you already do)
Will do on the Flat-Life website when there's a few more maps
edit: for some reason quitting the game (esc, using exit from splash) causes my HL to freeze, and I have to Taskmanager to exit. since no one else has mentioned this am I screwing something up?

There's a delay for crouching... does this happen for everybody?
Yes, it's in the engine, not sure there's anything I can do about it.

As for the crashes, all has been fixed in RC3.

RipEnt has the -import flag, it'll let you change the entities without recompiling the map.
Plus I want to convert HL over to Spirit.
Ehm, converting what, exactly? Half-Life runs fine in Spirit...

Might be related to Flat-Life, actually. The Half-Life engine always renders sprites facing the same direction as the player, and as you're not facing the sprite in platform mode it's not showing up. Hm, I'll check it out in the code.
