Yeah. That's what i origianlly meant. I have layout in dev, and only one real section mapped.
But it was the most intricate section, so hopefully the others go nice and smooth.

The texture does not matter. It's the Name of the texture that tells the engine what to do.
Basicaly every texture that has the null texture on it will be nulled.
It's the texture information, not the picture, that makes a difference.
Good to hear it's working for you.
Good luck in your future endeavours

Have you tried making your own new null texture?
Take a 16x16 bitmap, make it a really annoying color
Call it NULL, import it to wally and load it up.

And idk if this has anything to do with it, but do you compile with -wadinclude?

in HL2 RPG Post #268775
I'm sure you've all heard me mention my plans for a HL2 RPG...
And this thread isnt meant for a mod proposal, it's more of an idea thread.
I would like to call upon all the source mappers to help do SOMETHING with this idea. It's going to be a big project and all that, but it's nothing we can't handle. Expecially if we make it episodic, or at least release small quests and areas one at a time.
My basic idea for the RPG (Title unkown so far) is that this story takes place in an alternate universe. A universe when the combine came and helped us, not faught us. They advanced our technology parallel to their own, and the world is now a utopia.
Citizens of city 17 (a beach-side utopian-paradise) willingly and prodly stand up to join the metropolice and combine militia. And live comfortably knowing that they will stop any crimes that go on.

This is where gordon comes in...

In a teleporting accident gone wrong, a dimensional rift opens up and a clone of gordon appears in the alternate-reality paradise of city 17... Something's wrong though. When gordon appears, a stir is created within the socioty.
Who is this gordon character? Why doesnt he say anything? Why does he make me uneasy?...
Of course this is only an idea i thought up last night whilst trying to fall asleep. As for the scale of the Hl2 RPG, it takes place on a series of continents and islands. (I really want to base it somewhat off the "Planet TWHL" Thread) The first few quests and such will be focused on the Rimrookian Utopia island (Which is where this whole idea came from), then later on you move around to the others. As you stray further and further from the paradise, the world gets a bit more grungy.. it seems the world is only perfect on that one island..

I figure the following:

-My imagination only stretches so far when i'm already working on a project taking up 90% of my time
-More than one head is better than one head. I.E. If we discuss (seriously) ideas throughout the competetion time we should have a good base of events or ideas for the RPG
-Coding is needed. That's without a doubt. But like i said before, you can get simple RPG mechanics using only console commands. But the drawback to that is i don't know how to save the "Character level" data and commands for use the next time you load the map. Because when you quit the game, the console commands would have to reset to default to allow you to play other maps un-altered.
-Models may or may not be necessary. As the leveling system would go something like this:
Level 1 - Health: 50 Armor: 25 Crowbar damage: 3
Level 2 - Health: 52 Armor: 26 Crowbar damage: 4
Level 3 - Health: 54 Armor: 27 Crowbar damage: 5
Level 4 - Health: 56 Armor: 28 Crowbar damage: 6 (Pistol Unlocked: Damage: 5)

All done with console commands triggered from math_counters (Math counters being experience, or enemies killed, or whatever)

So let me know what you guys think. If you arent interested in it, then i may just keep this for my own little side project to work on over the period of: until i run out of ideas, or have something better to do.

Yeah. I don't think the compilator has been written for windows 7.
It was designed by our very own "The mighty Atom" using visual basic.
I'm sure he hasnt gotten around to Win 7 yet.

And to load the pointfile...
User posted image
That's what you do. Browse to your mapname and load it.After each compile it should make a new pointfile. If you're unsure if it exists, delete all your pointfiles (.pts and .lin) and compile, go back to hammer and try to load it.

I'm gonna start working on the RPG starter map. If i make good progress and get some decent media i might propose a mod.
Would be interesting to set a scale to the map (like 1024units / cm or something) and have each country founder create their own map(s) for their area.
compile it into a nice mod.

Only problem is, the mod will eventually need code. Which i'm currently looking into.. But the basic leveling and experience system can al be created using math_counters and basic console commands.

I believe vis sees thru them to the enclosing brush on the outside, but the faces do get lit and cast shadows.

Well from what i see you have 2 problems.
1) you're using large textures :
Using Wadfile: \games\valve\cstrike\torntextures.wad
 • Warning: Larger than expected texture (240172 bytes): 'TK_STONEWALLHI'
 • Warning: Larger than expected texture (306812 bytes): 'TK_CLAYROOF'
 • Warning: Larger than expected texture (272812 bytes): '{TK_PLANTLG'
 • Warning: Larger than expected texture (327212 bytes): '{TK_PLANTSM'
 • Warning: Larger than expected texture (235412 bytes): 'TK_TORNMAP'
But that usually doesnt harm anything too much
2) You have a leak, and thats why you're lagging.
Warning: === LEAK in hull 0 ===
Entity info_player_deathmatch @ ( 605, 414, 72)
Error:
A LEAK is a hole in the map, where the inside of it is exposed to the
(unwanted) outside region. The entity listed in the error is just a helpful
indication of where the beginning of the leak pointfile starts, so the
beginning of the line can be quickly found and traced to until reaching the
outside. Unless this entity is accidentally on the outside of the map, it
probably should not be deleted. Some complex rotating objects entities need
their origins outside the map. To deal with these, just enclose the origin
brush with a solid world brush

Leak pointfile generated
Notice 2 things: info_player_start - That's the entity that's closest to the leak (usually...)

And "Leak pointfile generated" - Read below:

when you have a leak, everything is lit up (fullbright) and the engine renders EVERYTHING!
Inside your map AND outside.

So open up the .lin file from the compile, and fly around in hammer to see where the leak occurs.
(map > load pointfile) [or something similar. i can't check right now i'm at work being a bad employee]
you can also try opening the map in-game using the pointfile command
but in order to do that, add this to your compile options :
+particles 50000
So fix the leak, and maybe take care of those textures and you should be in business.

Ok.. well.. when you just push the displacements into one another, the lighting goes beserk.
And as for the displacements not being solid, did you texture all the non-displaced faces with nodraw, and then apply the blend texture to the displaced surface?

If that does not work, just get a bunch of nodraw brushes and follow the displacement terrain..

Yeah, and i'd reccomend actually sewing those displacements, Or if you want to start over, subdivide them first, and make sure you have auto-sew on, so they don't seperate on ya.

Also remember, displacements don't seal from the void. You need some form of backing. Again, regular brushes textured w/ nodraw works perfectly for this.

Yes. You have almost the same effect after playing guitar hero for a few hours. After your eyes adjust to the screen moving down, everything else seems to move up.

you have to make sure that the original faces (before displacement) match up with eachother.
Try just modifying the brushes (not the displacement) and aligning them.
If all else fails, start-over.
Displacements arent too bad to re-work. Trust me, i've been doing it all week.
You could also try to smooth the 2 displacements together before sewing?
I've never tried it but it could be worth a shot.

If you ask me, Applebee's is a better alternative.
I'd stay the hell away from applebees if i were anyone.
As an old employee, i know what goes in the food, and i do know how incredibly bad it is for you. I gained 20 pounds in a year eating applebees food 2x a week.

Despite running from table to table, i still didnt lost the weight.

Well. The food is pretty good. I do enjoy Their cowboy burger (Regular bacon chz burger with a giant onion ring and barbecue sauce on it)
And also their french dip sliders (Roast beef on sourdough bread with French-AuJu' Dipping sauce)

And if you ever do go, stay away from anything labeled "Oriental"
The dressing on anything oriental is comprised of 90% chicken fat.

DELICIOUS!
I do like the outback.
I think they go over-the-top with the Aussie theme, but they have a great selection of beer and their steaks are the best 'cheap' steaks you can get.

As for it being australian..... They have fosters, and they have a lot of lame names for their menu items:
Kids menu is the "Joey Menu"
The steak and chicken menu is the "Barbie Section"
There's a whole bunch of wallaby-whathaveyou's and Koala-khalua-thingies in the drink menu.

It's clever, but stupid, and i only go out to dinner with my Girlfriend's family and i rarely have to pay for anything but my drink, and my share of the tip.

Mount-Melikeacowboi erupted one again spewing a huge cloud of ash all over the planet.
the lava flow was so powerful it ran into the ocean and decimated the pontoon island and the network of oars and boueys in the water spelling out it's name.

The Eacleus province was forced to construct massive walls containing the lava flows, and moved into the surrounding areas forming New Eacleus, North New Eacleus, and South New Eacleus.

They have also consttucted a highway system and bridges to cut the travel distance to Daubibia in half.

I think that the mod / map of the month canidates should be easier to access, or at least easier to remember.

What if you moved the canidates link to the top of the map vault list, so it catches your attention better.

Or next to the seach button up top, maybe have a little button that goes directly to the MOM voting page?

I think a lot of people don't vote because when they're on the site, they just dont think about voting. Maybe if there's a reminder or 2 up on the high-traffic pages, people will vote more?

The Colony members peacefully disbanded from Cavalcadia, and created a land named after it's leader, Eacleus.

The provence of Eacleus is home to the 200 smile wide lake, and mount Melikeacowboi. Currently the planets only known active volcano.

The colonists also decided to open port bern on the outlying island.
Famous for it's grapefruit-flavored coffee beans.

In Cavalcadia's last supply shipment, they sent excess amounts of inter-planetary-communication satellite-dishes.

The provence of Eacleus had no use for more than one, so they dispersed them across the land for anyone to take.

Complete with a minifridge filled with Stella Artois, and Crabcakes.

You can achieve the same effect with a trigger_relay.
Set it to toggle, Like chickenfist said.
And you're probably confusing the hell outta the engine.

If all else fails, re-name them light1a and light1b and use a Multimanager to trigger them both at time=0.
