But... I don't know, I think it would be a good idea to just have it as an option when you install it, and then you could manually change it later if you wanted.

I'm not sure I understand the whole part about grouping the rooms and seperating them and stuff, but double walling everything won't fix your problems. Actually, I'm not sure what will fix your problems, as I've never experienced them before, but I can say with certainty that double walling will do nothing but bring you a lot of work.

You might not have the blue color in index #255. To find which index number it is, open the texture in Wally, go to Colors > Edit Pallette, and then select your blue. It tells you the index number of the color. Copy that number, go to Colors > Translate Colors, and put it into the Index field. For destination, put in 255, and check Swap Indexes. Press OK, and you're all set.

in making an unseen brush face null Post #193765
To make a face not appear, you should use the NULL texture that came with ZHLT.wad, you don't actually remove the texture in the editor.

But putting the NULL texture on the outside of your box will be pointless, because (if your map is compiled properly) every face exposed to the void will be automatically removed. Same goes for when you have, say, two normal solids that are touching eachother. The faces that are touching will be stripped away.

As for the breakable stuff, I'm really not sure what to do. There's a limit to the number of breakable entities you can have in your map.

You don't run any applications (well, you do indirectly I guess). I'm getting the feeling you may have gotten the wrong idea about ZHLT or something... You just copy the compile tools into the same folder as the old tools, and redirect the compiler to find them instead of the old ones.

If you were already doing what I said, tell me the error you got when you compiled with ZHLT.

in ladder problem Post #193645
Yes, you do need a func_ladder to be covering the actual ladder in able to make it work.

Those problems aren't really critical, but if you do want to fix them, just select the error from the list, move your mouse over to any of the 2D views, and you'll see that your curser will look like you selected something. Just press delete and the problem you selected will be gone. This only works for "solid entity is empty" errors, though.

MuzzleFlash:

Have you (or anybody else) ever had any problems with that particular download of ZHLT? I couldn't get them to work for me, so I had to dig up the older (but identical) 3.3 version.

I don't know, I only just played CS today, but I've played HL in both Steam and non-Steam versions several times before (and restarted my computer many times in between those sessions), and it's still doing it for them. I have no reason to believe that it would be any different for CS.

in Transparency Problems Post #193242
Ever since I wiped my hard drive after my Windows went bonkers and wouldn't boot up (not sure if anybody remembers that), I've been having these really strange problems with the transparency of things.

It's all random when it happens, but my brushes and sprites will start flickering between being transparent and solid, as seen in these pictures:

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/4083/ops17th20000ec0.jpg

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2753/poaud010000na3.jpg

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5810/pupaimuspcanyon0000qd4.jpg

Sometimes its transparency will be changed when I shoot the object, and sometimes it just changes when I move to a certain location.

At first I thought it was a problem with the transparency DLL's that I had overwritten with the new ones that Steam uses, but I reinstalled Half-Life, installed the 1.1.1.0 update, and it was still happening.

I just played Counter-Strike for the first time since I wiped my hard drive (using the Steam version of course), and it was doing it on that too, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with just the old version of Half-Life.

Help?

By the way, I'm not sure if this belongs in Half-Life Engine Discussion or General Discussion, because for all I know, it might not be a problem that's only related to Half-Life...

Somebody else disagrees with it.

The thread is closed.

in Editing HL Sp? Post #192523
Where to start...

You can't just open up an original map and edit it, you would have to decompile the map using a program like WinBSP. But you see, you can't recompile a decompiled map without rebuilding all the brushwork, because decompiling screws the map up.

So basically, there's no way to easily do what you're looking to do, which is why nobody else has done anything like it before.

It sounds like you still have a lot to learn about the older HL1 engine before you start making your own mod... Heck, you don't even know how to set up a mod folder. Remember, start small first.

That won't be a problem if they touch, where did you get that idea? If at least one of them is a brush based entity (and the transparent window has to be), then it's not going to clip that face away or anything. And even if it did, it would just be doing the same thing as the NULL.
Posted 18 years ago2006-08-01 21:25:26 UTC
in one way glass? Post #192242
I think I read a tutorial on it somewhere, but can't remember where exactly. Anyway, it's pretty simple.

Make a window, put the glass texture on the side you want to be opaque, and put the NULL texture on the other, so you won't see anything there when you look at it from that side. You don't make this transparent or anything, but it's probably a good idea to make it a func_wall.

You then make a second window up against the first one on the side with the NULL texture on it, and make this one like a normal window with transparency.

I'm not too great at tutorials, but I hope it's easy enough to understand.

There's a good chance you already know about this, but there's a lot of city textures that come with Counter-Strike. You could also try downloading other mods, and taking textures from them (The Specialists would be a good place to start).

If you still can't find any, try making your own from pictures. It's really not all that hard. And if you don't feel like going out and taking yor own pictures, there's plenty of good free texture/picture resources out there, like this one:
