Well you can add debris without making the place seem dirty. Such as the radiator on the floor. Just have it start off mounted to a wall, or have a storage area or something. Trash cans, tools. Those giant razor-blade things :pwned:

Woah. You got a pretty damn good looking map on your hands. I'd say add some debris, and use the source physics engine to your advantage to add some game-play elements. The Gravity gun is a weapon too you know :)

I definitely like the mix of lighting, although my concern is that it may be a tad dark for multiplayer play. But that information will only come from playtests. Good job.
I like it.

well if you're going to you do that, i suppose we can just team up and do a map pack. Say the inter-dimensional rift from zen caused a portal to open up at the temple of time, and you have to eradicate the gargantuas controlling each temple. :-P
and instead of a horse, we can have a go-kart.
then we can port it source and have a party.

ANYWAY

My first class got canceled today so I'm free until about 2:30.
And those textures were paint.net. They don't have a blend tool, i just layered the grass, erased a bit, and changed the alphas.
God i have to learn photoshop... and fast.

wow the new textures really brought it to life, it could be different lighting than last time?
I didn't touch the light_environment, and i won't until i have all my textures. It took me a good 30 minutes to get that bark texture to tile in MSPAINT. Same thing with the railings and fence.

I'm currently devising a way to 'steal' some textures from the game and clean them up a little bit. I want the layout to be spot on, but having those low-res textures in a HLDM map won't be pretty at all.

Again, thanks for the input. Next update won't be for a little while I'm afraid. I have class 9am-9pm tomorrow, working a double on friday AND saturday, and i have to go in at 3pm on sunday which leaves me very little time for all my homework / sleeping that i'm going to have to do.
I might have some time after class tomorrow, but nothing major will come out until probably next week.

EDIT - - -

Darkened up the textures and used paint.net to do some basic blending from the grass to the wall. Textures will probably change. But this definitely looks better.

You're gonna suck for about 3 days.
It's just the phase everyone goes through.
Then you'll see yourself get noticeably better because you're going to get more and more comfortable holding a guitar, and having your wrist... that.. way.. kinda like.. the getting ready to toss a bowling ball down the lanes-sort-of-thing. (only point your fingers at your face and not straight up)
With your left hand anyway.

And a hint: i rest the pinky side of my palm on the bridge while i pick (the bridge is where the strings come out) It helps me play easier.

I just compiled the completed version. Everything is there expect the paths on the ground, and the fence maze.
Once i get textures i'll put more detail into it.

Muzz.. I'll email you a rom and emulator (if you really want it). I can't believe you haven't played the best game ever. So many gaming magazines give Ocarina of Time like.. "best game ever" award.
It's basically like oblivion for the N64, only better

More screens in a couple of hours. I'm adding on links house, and the plateau region near the Lost woods entrance, and if i have time, I'll toss some MSPAINT placeholder textures in there for sparkles.

And thanks for not immediately shooting this down for such a crappy release.
It'll get better. I promise.

That's right. After many versions tried and failed, i'm finally getting some good progress.. i think.
ANYWAY, here's an alpha screenie :

I'm trying to follow the original scale as closely as possible because i believe it will make a good deathmatch setting. The deku tree will not be accessible, nor will the lost woods, crawlspace, or entrance to the overworld.
Each house will contain weapons, batteries, health etc etc, and i plan on using all custom textures once i refine my photoshop skills.

The hard part is over: getting my proportions right, and making the river look decent. I know it's a barebones 'media' release, as it's just a crummy screenshot with base textures. BUT there's more to come so stay tuned.

Forth, my first guitar, that kramer one made out of plywood, is worth about $80 brand new. So i say get yourself a cheap guitar (one that still plays nice) slap some new strings on it, and do what Hunter said. Get some online lessons. Teach yourself how to read tableture and pick a simple song to get yourself started.

If you have the heart, you'll learn.

@Tosse: I was never too into Ibanez. I'm a Jackson and a PRS guy. Which is why i bought a Schecter. It's basically a PRS knock-off.

Oh and if you do end up playing forth, Let us know what you have!

Woot. Got my photoshop working. All i had to do was re-install it. Some weird bug messed it all up. Now i need to learn PS so i can texture my beast of a guitar. :hammer: :ciggie:

I exported my UV Map But when i load it into photoshop, it won't let me create a new layer. It has the black circle with the cross through it.

Of course, i have no clue what i'm doing anyway. But this is really puzzling.

OMG i want a tube amp so bad. More importantly, a Mesa Boogie. It's what our producer let us use to record our last few tracks.
When i plugged in i almost died it sounded so good.

I'm pretty sure each hostage draws it's sounds from the same folder. So unless you want to code the females and males to play two different sounds, they're going to use the same sound files.

Create a singleplayer or multiplayer map from the following 2D layout. If singleplayer, the map must have a definite start and finish. Otherwise, the only rule is that it adhere to the layout as much as possible.

Allowed games are:

<strong>About the layout:</strong>

The layout is multi-levelled, with the blue level above the pink one. The white levels may be above or below their adjoining levels.

The stairs are just a guide. These may be replaced by a ramp or some other means of traversing the height difference.

The alcoves in green are optional additions, and are examples of where the layout can be varied slightly without breaking the rules.

Note that this layout is for walkable area only, extra stuff can be added for cosmetic purposes, as long as it is not traversable. Also note that the layout has no scale, and is not limited to indoors. Elements such as stairs, rooms and hallways can be stretched to your liking, as long as it represents the basic structure of the layout.

Here's an update of my progress:

I re-built the body using the line technique. Cut around the body and recessed the outside edges to give the body the 'sharpened' look.

Added in the neck, pickups, and hole for the Floyd-rose bridge.

Items needed to be added:
2 Volume knobs
Floyd-rose bridge + Tremolo (whammy) bar
3-way switch (non functional, so it's a stick basically)
tuning hardware.

And Rimrook, could i just add a plain going down the neck and texture it with a transparent texture with strings instead of just creating the strings from polygons themselves?

Face count: 121
polygon count +/- 60?

Thisshould help you out with the dimensioning of things.

If you add the regular wads to your hammer file the textures should all be there.

Read through this again to help with adding more textures.

Of course this goes on the assumption that you're using the goldsource engine (HL1) and not the Source engine (HL2+)
