Don't you get royalties from every book sold?
Aren't you supposed to get royalties?
No, it's not in my contract.

I get paid a flat fee to write the book, and that's it. My agent takes a cut from my fees.

If I see and experience God myself, I would believe it.

Since I haven't and I have never seen anything that would convince me otherwise, I don't believe God exists.

Again, there's nothing wrong with religion, except that it's easily abused.

Since I am not religious, I am less inclined to abuse others and less likely to be abused.

:)

That's some accomplishment. You're smart and articulate, so it's not surprising that you are becoming a writer.

And of course, this is my latest book.

I have no idea how it's selling, because the publisher keeps that a secret, even to the author.

Religion by itself isn't necessarily bad, but it can easily be used as a tool to brain-wash people and control their behavior.

That's the dangerous aspect.

I am controlled by many things already, so I decided that I don't need one more thing to control me.

An effective leader can convince and motivate a large group of people to do whatever he/she wants them to do.

It has nothing to do with whether they are achieving something useful or good.

Hitler was able to do just that. Like Huntey said, his goals just happened to be messed up.

I am not saying that Hitler is good, I am just saying that Jesus might be evil.

Having faith means believing in something without questioning it. I think a healthy dose of skepticism is always a good thing.

Fucked up. I wouldn't call them Christians at that point though, Jeff's right. More idiots-- very dangerous idiots.
And powerful too. They re-elected George W. Bush.

I won't ever compare Bush to Hitler. For one, Hitler is far more talented.

I am comparing Jesus to Hitler. Both are charismatic. Both are very articulate and intelligent. Both are natural leaders.

This year, I didn't feel like giving any gifts or receiving any, so I only got gifts for my son and my parents. I only received a gift from my wife--a $50 gift card to the local pet store (because I got pet goldfish recently).

I feel that I already have everything that I ever wanted, so I don't really miss anything.

I watched Jesus Camp with my wife last night.

It was nominated for the best documentary in 2006, and we've been wanting to watch it for some time.

For us atheists, the film portrays an alarming picture of how young children are brain-washed by religious (Christian, specifically) rights to become "soldiers for the army of God".

These Christians demonize Muslims and they're taught to hate everyone except Christians. The intolerance and militancy of the tone made me cringe.

The most scary part is that it's all true and it's happening right now in churches all over the United States.

If you replaced "Jesus" with "Hitler", and "Christianity" with "Nazism", the similarities between these social movements may shock you.

I think I can build an economical desktop from scratch with specific emphasis on certain hardware that is most suitable for the user.

For example, the computer that I was going to build for her has a 23" LCD plus a 2.1 speaker system.

Try to get that setup for less than $660 from WalMart.

But if she gets a mass-produced desktop, I don't get to build something. :P

I'll ask her again, giving her that option at least.

I swapped the CPU to this one, and the graphics card with this one.

Now, the price tag is $750, and with a 23" display and subwoofer sound system.

It sure beats the WalMart model, and it's $660 before tax and shipping.

I am building a new desktop for one of the nurses.

She is going to use it to watch Netflix movies, surf the net, and prepare PowerPoint presentations.

Her budget is under $1,000

This is the list that I come up with so far.

Add about $100 for Windows 7, the total so far comes out to be $845.

Any suggestions?

YouTube is experiencing a great deal of problem right now.

I have been attempting to upload my video review of the Logitech keyboard for the entire day, and the upload was aborted over and over again.

When I searched the internet, it appears that this problem has been afflicting everyone for the past few weeks.

Yet YouTube doesn't seem to be doing anything to remedy the issue.

What gives?

Is anyone here experiencing this problem also?

Actually, no.

That Paint.NET icon on my desktop was never meant to be there. I only discovered it was placed there after I took the screenshot. When I installed a newer version of Paint.NET, the icon was indiscriminately thrown there, to my dismay.

I don't want to buy a gaming keyboard for that reason.

It's not bad for the eyes to look at displays in the dark. That's a total myth.

And why would you want to play games with the lights on? It ruins the ambiance.

I already have a desk lamp, but I don't want to turn it on when I am playing games. I only use the lamp when I am writing something on my desk (which is rare), or when I am reading.
