lol, imo milkshape, 'useful' as it is, is not worth TWENTY QUID and never will be. Its a poorly made app and only good as an intro to modelling, there are better freeware apps out there.

stop creating a brush with invalid planes ffs! ;)
You're probably just vertex manipulating without realising how limited hammer/halflife are for brush complexity

in What does VIS actually do? Post #12592
compiling without vis is like a chilli con carne without rice, stupid!
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-18 08:12:23 UTC
in Skeletons Post #12534
no it wont, to put a skeleton in CS you'll have to use a basic env_sprite and put the models name in the 'sprite name' key

in What does VIS actually do? Post #12533
simplest explanation without going into what its used for in RAD -

Stand in a room in halflife thats properly compiled
The rest of the level is not visible around the corner (gl_wireframe 2 shows this)
If it was the map would be unplayably laggy
VIS works out, for every 'room' in the map, what should be VISible

I'm sure theres a guide on here or VERC (gak) for what it does in intricate detail

in transparent walls ? Post #12531
the NULL texture acts as a barrier and can be seen through, as long as it doesn't block VIS. To stop any crappy CS wallshot nonsense, just put 2 seperate invisible walls with a gap of 1 unit between them. No weapon can penetrate this (even the guass in hl)

I knew about it, have seen the sad matrix fanboys on the webbie and I'm saying its crap before its release because:

a) matrix revolutions (thats a reason btw)
b) mmorpgs sap your life force
c) enter the matrix
d) er matrix revolutions (so important had to be mentioned twice)

there isn't a limit, but if you're trying to create some kind of 'looping' effect so it looks like you are moving but aren't, then you have to be careful as the game likes to forget to move the func_trains sometimes

in VIS question Post #11632
you aren't doing something right then, thats a correct parameter

For quick compile I use:
hlrad.exe -sparse -bounce 0 -chop 128 -smooth 80 -lights lightsfile -chart -estimate mapname

gives reasonable lighting and the proper estimation values (rather than %age)
