well, you can always try it the hl2 way, there might be a lot of the same trigs, it's gonna have something to do with the damage i guarantee you.

do what they do. Make a bright light, not the sun one. outside the window, cut up the floor so that you can use the env_cubemap to create a reflection on the pieces of floor being hit, then do the dust effect for a light feeling. If you want the fake dynamic lighting feel you'll have to find a fade texture. I beleive that they're making an update to the tutorials, maybe they'll explain it in there. BTW, the reflection may take a while to get just right.

hl2 or cs? cause i'm not very good with cs:s, i don't use it. In hl2 you would need to wire it so that if the tower takes a certain amount of damage, and i believe there's a field in the func_breakable and func_brush enitites that say something like that (something like damage to take, or fire on hurt) Then put the target as the monitor. Now the question is, what do you mean go off? Turn off the light? Make the screen go black? If it's the light, that's easy, the target is the light. If you mean the screen. You'll have to make sure that the texture animates, and make sure that the screen is set to an entity that toggles. maybe func_brush has it. I'm not completely sure. It'd be the kind of thing that happens when you push a button in hl1 or 2. The texture changes.

It does this in CS:S too. I believe it's just a source glitch. Has to do with the antisetropic filtering strangely enough. Don't worry about it. If anyone else can prove me wrong. Please do. I would like to know how to fix it also.

well, now i've got it showing up as a 3rd party game. But when the menu should come up... It just exits! I dunno what's wrong with it. And it gives me an error about my background and what not, could someone give me the details on what folders and stuff you make for a steam mod, instead of the won ver. i already have the won ver setup.

loading times are not a prob if in cs ;), and in half life you can tweak your system and hl into fixing the loading problem. also, textures are a big problem with loads. put it at medium if your at high and have bad loads, put it at low if your at medium... etc, etc...
Finally, and i'll put this to the point. detail makes the best mods, layout makes the best cs maps/dm maps (detail sold seperately)

get hlmv (half life model viewer), open up the pak0.pak file (or w/e it is for hl2, if there's no pak0.pak look around, there's somthing like that) in your valve directory. gfx/env - that's what folder in hlmv in pak0.pak hl1 holds all the backgrounds. have a looksee, i'll check it out tomorrow about what the file is called

Milkshape 3d is decent for hl1 models man, it's free and everything. Decent modeling stuff too. If you find anything better, please post :cool:

I followed the custom mod tutorial on strings and now it won't work, it's a .lst file.. in the gfx/shell folder of my mod. It has about 9 lines edited, and nothing is changing, only other thing in my shell folder is my splash screen

most of the stuff sticking through look like they're entities of sorts, try looking into that. Also, the sky texture is normally see-through. But I haven't modded for hl2 so i don't know what goes on in it.

you set it to texture i'm sure, and it's not maxed out right?, cause i think it's 250 is the highest setting, that makes it invisible, and 0 makes it opaque (your version of visible). try a render value of 150

potholes do quite nice, maybe a cliff along one side of the road, with overhanging dirt that's collapsed onto the road, maybe even a car underneath the dirt. Just a small cliff if you do, just barely taller than the player
