24 hours left, and we've almost reached 4 additional Grant Kirkhope tunes! :D

In these final hours, we at Gears for Breakfast want to thank you guys so much for your help and support!

A lot of you have been asking if we are ever gonna be supporting Paypal; we are happy to let you know that we've been speaking with the folks over at Humble Bundle to set up a Humble Store for A Hat in Time, which supports Paypal, Amazon and Google Wallet! We hope to bring you this feature on our website soon, so even if you missed the Kickstarter you'll still be able to get in on the action!

And one last thing... please consider voting for us on Steam Greenlight! I know we bring it up often, and we wouldn't if it weren't really important!

And yeah he played it last night, here's the post I'm just pasting around.

We're in the final 57 hours! We met all the stretch goals and raised a massive $200,000. From now till the end, every 15,000 will add a new Grant Kirkhope song to the game.

As a reward we released this music teaser to give you a taste of the music in the game. Enjoy.

Back when I first used UDK I admit it was a little strange to get used to but back then I was using UE3, even bought the game during a sale to learn it. I was planning on learning it to get a job heh so I ended up watching a certain good set of tutorials. I can't remember what they were called but it was a video series where two guys talked through all the stuff. They were pretty funny.

Anyway I moved on to UDK once I learnt what UDK actually was and basically fiddled around with it for a long while before deciding to take the plunge and just make something pretty and thus my corridor scene was born. I then moved to the next one, a sewer based on some ideas I had back in the day, the idea was to learn Zbrush sculpting and so on. Didn't come out so great :P

Then around that time I was desperate for a job and tried to do one last project, one I knew would get me lots of exposure. Project Zeal was born, I had learnt a lot about UDK's systems and tools and had no trouble making that.

But I'll tell you what WAS weird, going from UDK back to Source. Learning the shortcuts again and so on. So that was 8 months on Cistern and then here I am back on Hat. Took me a bit to get used to UDK but now it's natural to me and I swore I'd never ever go back to Source! UDK is just so good.

Heh I know I rambled on there but I'm in a good mood.

Good news, we got featured on Kotaku!

Hello my old friends from TWHL, it has been a while. E3 is coming up and the team and I believe we are ready to start raising funds to bring our game, A Hat in Time, to the public. The game is currently still in early development.

Yesterday we launched our kickstarter page and already we've raised over 50% of our target. Of course we are hoping the stretch goals are met as we would love to put all the love we can into the game. I mean who doesn't love split screen / online co-op in adventure games?

Kickstarter Link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jonaskaerlev/a-hat-in-time-3d-collect-a-thon-platformer

Therefore I introduce to you, A Hat in Time, a collect-a-thon, platforming adventure game in the spirit of the old N64 games you once loved, Banjo K / T, Zelda MM, Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64.

You control Hat Kid, a time traveller who is collecting Time Pieces in order to fix time. Along the way you'll run into Mustache Girl who wants to use the Time Pieces for evil! You'll travel to new worlds like the City of the Mafia Cooks or the Subcon Forest with the shamed inhabitants who hide behind masks.

We consist of a small team of 8 people from around the world and we are in dire need of funding so that we can put our full focus into this game. Right now we either have full jobs or are students or in my case, unemployed The game is being developed on the Unreal engine and is currently for PC / Mac only however we have had talks with a publisher who might be interested in bringing it to the Wii U. We can't promise this but it's an aim we have in mind.

The game will also include lots of hats! Something we found amusing and it seems to have charmed a lot of people. Of course this game will feature lots of places to explore and things to collect but we intend to add story and character to each one of them so that they don't feel like a shopping list of stuff to collect.

You have the power to make this game a reality, we just need your help to spread the word! Polycount has helped me so much in the past, I'd like to thank them by giving them a game I'm proud of!

Please watch this video to get a glimpse of what we have to offer:

Since people are probably gonna decompile it and find a huge ton of error models and pink textures I'll most likely release it officially in a seperate rar with the textures and models. I'll discuss it with my partner.

Thanks for the feedback. The bomb issue is something Stoke said and I left it as it is for now. Water cubemaps, well I think that's a problem with the fact source cant handle multiple water brushes at different heights. It's a problem I had to fight by using cheap versions of the water.

Oh and I made a document you can read here detailing all my design thoughts:

Hey Daubster, the maps pretty balanced though we're concerned it doesn't run too well on some PC's. Like for example I get 60 fps in bomb b and have an average PC but my friend with a powerful PC gets 25 fps in the same area.

I've had to replace most of the fancy effects with lesser ones and we changed several things but other than that we're probably gonna release b1 today. I may end up making an SE version for smooth framerates and keep the pretty one for the portfolio.

It's unlikely it'd be accepted as a tournament map because they're very specific about prop placement and framerate. They want a bland map with clear lighting, no dark areas and 300 fps.

Ok dudes, de_cistern_b1 is out for the public to play. Enjoy!

Thanks, I should hope it makes some men wet after the work I put into it ;) I've received some fair criticism over at mapcore though my time is running out, I only have till end of year to do any more work on it. This is my last project assuming I don't get a job in the industry soon, I've spent so many years towards that goal and it seems it's too advanced for me so for this last project I gave it my all. I hope people enjoy it though and I owe Smoker for advertising for help, I wouldn't be working on it if not for him.

Hey guys, nearly finished de_cistern. I've spent I think 5 months on it or more though it wasn't 24/7 so I'm really just guessing. Either way it's been a long project and I'm glad to see the end of it. I implemented caustics, moving foliage, flow maps and I attempted an experiment to make cloud shadows cast across the map however it proved negative though I've written up my findings and will post them along with the release of the map. I have to wait till my partner comes back from his Christmas away from the PC.

I think the vents are a bit too chunky and take up too much space. Rather I'm assuming you didn't use a reference? If so I would make them thinner and have beam supports holding them up to the ceiling.

And if you have spare erm...HL poly's? I haven't mapped for HL in a long time then I would have one or two ceiling panels exposed.

I also appreciate it's early WIP so take my comments with a grain of salt. Otherwise keep it up.

Yeah I guess I keep forgetting to mention that. I've been working on textures and models for months however the lighting was a quick copy/paste to let me see how the textures looked in real time.

I'm not 100% sure anymore what we're doing but we were going to do night themed lighting but my tests at making that weren't so great. I found it made everything dull so I reverted back to the sunset one.

As for why it's purple. I wish I knew. I spent a whole day breaking it apart and as far as I can tell it's two things. It's the light_environment and FULL compile. It doesn't happen with the other expert compile options and full seems to bounce RAD twice. Either way I'll be nuking the purple dont worry though I have to admit it works quite well in the outdoor section, just not indoors ;)

Ah just like the old days when me and Hunter would make brush boats and sail them in gmod...:<

Anyway to make this post less pointless here's a collage of that CSGO map I'm working on. I'm getting real close to finishing the details and then it's the SUPER FUN "copy pasta particles" EVERYWHERE! stage and then hopefully release day.

I used to use a sidebar but Windows 7 dropped that ability. I used programs to emulate it but they gave me hassle and I stopped caring although I keep the programs to the side still.

Thanks Trapt, I've come a long way since de_boshi eh?

And useful crits Nef. I did work on a sort of pipe support for the red ones based on a screenshot from Black Mesa. I only placed in a few because I had to work on more important parts of the map but I will probably re-examine how pipes are supported.

http://puu.sh/17aY3

And as for the bottom right you're probably right. I didn't actually notice it because it's not a place you stand in very often.

I might have to think about adding supports there or maybe sky windows. I'll look at my ref folder for ideas but thanks for giving me a fresh insight. The only one who crits it is my mapping partner and I think his involvement makes him also blind to mistakes and stuff.

Some more progress on the map. I recently finished this area which is bomb a and I need to fix some glitches etc etc and then I can move on to the lesser areas and finally FINALLY get some real lighting in it cause right now it's using some freaky sun that casts "purple" around everything it touches. Really weird.

I can't say that at any point the quality of the mapping drops any considerable amount. It's consistently great.
I felt the start of Blast Pit was extremely poor. I may have been tired but I swear I saw pipes made with brushes when they had all those fancy models to use. But the opening is by far the best mapping in my opinion. I just wish the tram wasn't so fast so I could look at it all :D
