Try making the skybox a dark one, then setting the environment lighting to some sort of mid to dark blue, with the ambient a slightly lighter colour maybe even a purple. Play around with the shadow_control (or whatever it's called) entity too.

Make all your lights come from specific sources: you might have street lights, car lights (used a lot in the official maps), Shop window displays, apartment lights, floodlights. Vary it up a bit too, maybe light from a fire, light from a siren or alarm, neon signs or just signs with lights on them, traffic lights...

Also don't use the normal light entities for everything, use light_spot instead, I used to place one aprox two metres off the ground facing down and another aprox 1/2 metre off the ground facing up, made some good effects.

Then again if you do use lights use the fade distance (I think it's called) the thing that has a 0% and 50% value in the light properties. Try those with different numbers and you'll work out soon enough how it works. (Sorry if any of this is wrong haven't opened hammer in a year :( ) Good luck!

Does someone that murders people deserve what someone that helps people stay alive deserve?
In the afterlife, yes. Here goes my religious views.

The major fault that lead me away from religion (when I was younger and none of them could answer my questions properly, possibly because there are no answers) is the question of the afterlife, specifically Christian heaven and hell.

I think 'punishment' in all its forms is a very human thing to do. That being said, as my religious teachers so often put it "God is above us humans". The only proper way of dealing with people who have done wrong in a humane, rather than human, fashion, would be rehabilitation and reform.

I'm not completely up to date on everything, so my pop culture view on Christianity might be flawed but from what I know only those 'deserving' get into heaven. The flaw I see in this is why just punish people who have done wrongs in their lives? Why not educate them in the afterlife and as a supreme being grant them understanding of what they've done wrong, why it was wrong, and make them understand that they should have done otherwise. After all of that, I think they should also be let into heaven.

Back on topic, zeeba-G was probably talking about this woman who would've "let her son die" and how satchmo deserves to be rewarded. Well my take on it is they both get into heaven anyway. :glad:

It's funny how this has gone from Asia to America so quickly. Maybe Americans find geography so hard because there are so many different states.

I read in a book once that you could experience all the climates of the world by just traveling around America, as well as a whole heap of 'state cultures', as opposed to the broader 'country cultures' that everyone knows of.

I guess if you keep this in mind then it's understandable why they don't feel the need to learn about the outside world as much as the rest of us do. Maybe they should get better news channels or something :P

(Broad generalisations obviously, still I think in some countries you'd be hard pressed to find someone who could answer a question as badly as the people in those vids)

in Ufo Sighting in Illonois! Post #255807
This thread is really lulz.

Anyway, it's fairly obvious in my eyes that the majority of UFO sightings are just American aircraft tests, obviously they'd look different to the aircraft out now, and they all happen in America (generally near area 51, which is most likely an airfield)

... stop being so self centered, if there were aliens they wouldn't just go to America anyway.

Secondly, there's no proof that a civilization could be more advanced than us at all. It's more than likely that there is life in the universe, but it's also likely that that life is undeveloped. Micro-organisms etc...

Believing that there's a civilization more advanced than us that has come up with the same concepts of flight, intelligence, spying etc is just absurd because it's impossible that they'd develop the same as us. We're more likely to find fish people that make houses out of seaweed. :D

Peppercorn :o
Awesome window.
The outside also looks nice but feels like it's missing something, maybe do some more lighting variation and chuck in a few things that say the area is in use/people have been around (like the car you have, then again I'm used to source's random props). ;)

Imo, should have more of a space-age texture variation Captain P. Though the flowyness you're talking about may help it out a bit too :P.

Anyway, back to prison map, skren from like 2 days ago, needs some height variation still but yeh take a look:

Do reskins count as custom content? and if so therefore do reskins made by you count as your own custom content?

Also are we allowed to cross mods, say we put a cs: S model in hl2 map?

Okay, I've decided to make these posts more blog like. I guess I'll reveal more about the development process rather than just spamming you with media. (which is fun too, so I may have spamming on occasion.. heh)

As you may have noticed, I'm a fan of the detail each room, then add entities approach, a lot of people are against this and like big boxes of dev. Personally I think dev textures stem my creativity and leave the map feeling empty and without purpose.

So
it's sometimes hard in this case to add that final polished touch to a section of your map when you're still trying to think big picture. For instance I had this screenshot of my bathroom area:

User posted image

it's alright, not great, but it has the basic elements down, the props, setting etc and is pretty much ready for the npc's right? Wrong. It still needs that extra bit of polish to let you move on. I guess what that area was really lacking was better contrast in the lighting, Trapt pointed this out and did a nifty drawover:

hence the final image of :

which'll be even better once I compile with hdr.

Hence, second opinions, as well as Trapt, rock.

(01:23:14) (+Trapt) now you need to repost and say 'after trapt pointed out all the flaws in your media, I now dislike this mod. Trapt said he would post what the flaws are for you to fix them, but you didn't listen to him last time because you're a whiny pretentious cunt, and he will no longer be helping you out at all in making your mod not fail.'
That's kinda harsh, but in a way I agree with Trapt. You didn't listen to his suggestions... and Trapt's suggestions are usually invaluable I've found.
