in Merging brushs increase r_speeds? Post #238432
If you want, make a smaller section of cliff and turn it into a func_wall and have both cliffs merge into it. Remember, func_walls don't cut up brushes. One way of making realistic, jagged cliffs is to make them actually very smooth and bland, but then makea func_wall rocks of various heights and sizes and stick them in there. I believe that's how the old Militia cliffs were done.

I think what you might need is to look for some good cliff making tutorials. You should be able to make cliffs out your ass without having to have huge intersecting brushes. And don't carve, btw.

I don't think that's what he meant. He said he disagreed with AO rating because it means the game won't sell anywhere.

I think the part you're reading is where he said he's not very interested in those games anyways.

Thanks, Madcow.

Note to others: By answering you are letting me quote anything you say, not that it fucking matters to you anyways, and I probably will regardless. :D

Ok guys, it's term paper time. If anyone would be so kind as to take five or ten minutes out of their day to answer a couple questions I'd really appreciate it! Please answer whatever you can:

Age (you can be vague if you wish)
Number of children, and ages if you have any.
Country(and state/province if you wish) of residence.

Second, answer:

What type of videogames do you play, and approximately how many hours a week.

Other hobbies, you can include occupation here if you wish.

Are you a violent person? In other words, are you aggressive or do you get in fights?

Do you agree with the current ESRB rating system? Does it work?

If you have, or if you will eventually have, children: how do you feel about them playing videogames with violent themes? At what age would you allow them to play T or M rated games? How would you determine when they were allowed to play these games?

If you do not have children, do/did your parents/guardians ever monitor or regulate what games you played? Were you not allow to play certain games until certain ages?

And lastly, do you believe that in cases of teen violence the media should be held liable as an influence?

Thanks fellas! If you don't want to answer, then don't. If you do, thanks again! :combine:

Also the manhacks don't kill them, so that makes for some real opportunities for custom lines.

Ok so I snuck by him but I found a wierd bug. When on top of the spiral staircase, the transparent grate textures that are farthest away appear over the ones that are closest. It's pretty trippy actually. I'll take a screeny if you want it, but i'm not sure it's important at all.

I'll screenie any bugs I see and keep em if you want.

I don't think she's the main issue. For me, the issue is that the damn cop who spots you breaking lockdown frags my defenseless ass.

When I get the nerve to, I'll give it another shot. It seems like a few more playtesters could have helped iron out these difficulty issues. People seem to be frustrated with things others found quite easy.

Ok so I'm stuck after ten minutes as well. I too pressed the button and released the manhacks, but i solved that little problem by running downstairs and letting the manhacks loose on the civilians. They ignore me.

I got the first card, and open the door but can't get the second card to the door before getting killed by the officer with the manhack and pistol.

I feel like I should at least have a crowbar by now. Should I?

I don't think frustrating the player to the point where he has to quit and complain here before even beating the first level was your goal.

We all remember when we first encountered the Aperture Science 1,500 Megawatt Heavy Duty Super-colliding Super Button right? And then when Glados said something like "please move quickly, as the effects of prolonged exposure to the button are not part of this test" and we laughed? Is there actually a test where they DO test the effects of prolonged exposure to the button? Hold that thought.

Well I wanted to make a portal map, but a behind-the-scenes map. The trouble is with a behind the scenes map, it wouldn't make much sense to have it start the way a chamber does, with the player arriving in an elevator. What better way than to start the player out in the test chamber designed to test the effects of prolonged exposure to the button?

So, idea for a map. The player starts out in the button exposure test chamber, and must escape. This is the opportunity for some cool behind the scenes stuff that actually makes sense contextually.

Only problem is the ending. It wouldn't make sense to have the player escape and then simply get on an elevator to end the map like a normal chamber.

Ideas for the ending? Thoughts?

You don't even have to set anything up to get started. Just launch the SDK, pick a game, and open Hammer from the menu.

Tutorials to get you started can be found on this site, or at VERC. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Tutorials

Be sure to click level design tutorials for tutorials more specific to, well, level design.

Happy mapping!

Even DX10 is overrated. Remember the link Madcow posted? I used it to get supposedly DX10 only features in the Crysis demo on XP. Crysis just greyed out the highest settings if you weren't on DX10, but with the power of Notepad this was easily bypassed.

Which means that for some reason, developers are saving the highest quality stuff for DX10, even though you don't even really need it...

If a bunch of features ripped from OSX and Microsoft getting developers to block highest settings for XP to convince gamers Vista is more powerful is your definition of "pimped"...

It has a loooong way to go.
