Espen, it was on the bed in the room where you hear the glass break and you go back and get out the window for the first time.

I forgot all about that. Yeah, use those too. I'm sure you can combine the effects to make it look really nice.

I believe the entity is like func_dustmotes or something.

This will require stretching the last texture to match up on both sides. I don't think theres a fast way to do this, you might have to play with it a little.

You can disable the buyzones by putting two func_buyzones in an un-reachable place, and set one to each team.

The buyzones are only put there if you dont build them yourself.

in How to set up hammer for source Post #237628
Go to steam, tools, SDK. Open the SDK and it contains Hammer, Model Viewer ect. It's already set up for Source games you have, just select the game on the bottom of the window.

Happy mapping!

Half-Life: 3D but with restricted movements and third-person perspective.

Or, HL:3DBWRMATPP for short.

Nem's Decompiler I think is one? Google is your friend. Search for Half-Life BSP Decompiler or something. Theres a couple of them, shouldn't be too hard.

Yes please. I know when we get the SDK update the Ep2 models will give us a lot more variety, foliage and such, but still. It's all strictly HL universe stuff, and everyones seen it before.

Custom models and props plz thnx.

Yeah I love that one. Very creative, I love the shot with the chemical container thingys. Great attention payed to the roof, quite nice, even if few players will look there.

This would be a great tool for us mappers who don't model as well. We've all been in the position where we need a prop but HL2 (or HL1)'s limited themes just can't deliver. If we had a place for models we could look there, grab it, use it and credit it. I would love the ability to just grab models from fellow twhlers. :)

Also Ep2 content, you will have a bit more range. Obviously mountainous outdoor areas will be easier, but also remember things like the antlion caves.

I want to do a map where part of it is an antlion cave, I just loved that part so much.

It's only similar in the color scheme, and that it has neon signs. I can see where it looks similar in theme, sure, but I don't see what the hell that's got to do with anything.

Yeah, how small dude? Do you think you scaled it to a point where your machine couldn't render it?

You'll also want to prepare for the future. You'll be glad you did.

I've got two 2 2.2ghz processors, 2 GB of RAM and a Nvidia 8600 on a 1400x900 widescreen. Laptop. It was expensive, yes, but I wont need to upgrade for a long time.

in hl2 mapping vs hl1 mapping/buying a pc Post #237272
Not everyone here uses US dollars.

Also yes, HL2 mapping is almost identical to HL1 mapping, with the added necessities of cubemaps, soundscapes, 3d skyboxes, ect. Models are used much more widely, and yes HL2 alone comes with a metric shit-ton. Almost 3000 I think. Maybe more?

Grid is same size, textures similar but 512x512 on average, and are simply scaled .25 in hammer, just like you would in HL1 to make more detailed textures. Additional effects any materials might have are labeled nicely in hammer for you.

You're over thinking this a bit, basically. It doesn't take long at all for an experienced HL1 mapper to make the jump to Source. Buy a computer that can run HL2 flawlessly. You'll love it.

I've made my own version of cs_assault before, as have many people. I would not suggest simply "modifying" the original. I would suggest making your own.
