YAY another conspiracy theory thread! As soon as one disappears from the first page of forums or gets closed, we get another! I'll NEVER get sick of these. Seriously! No, really!
No idea. I wouldn't have guess I'd be seeing trees based on the shots you showed before, I'm interested to see how you work them into the theme. You don't have to show me how, let's leave a few things to look forward to!
It seems us source guys are using the extra power to make larger outdoor entries. Of course the bigger you go the less detail there is. It'd be cool to see someone make an indoor source entry that really blew everyone away.
I just made a quick sunlight for testing the map, so the lighting isn't what it will be when I'm done. This is a couple shots of some of the more detailed areas, but I still have a long long way to go.
Yeah I find that if I go slow and really add some detail to an area before even building the next one, I'm less likely to overlook things when it's polishing time. Of course I build a very basic layout first, but I don't build from it like Biax is doing in his first screenie. I built basically a 3D version of the layout pic, very basic, and am building the actual map on a different part of the grid using the layout for measuring and reference. If I do that, I am less likely to end up with something that looks like a shitty layout with textures.
Everybody looks good so far! Maybe I'll get a screenie up tomorrow.
wait, is the modification ghetto made not allowed? Let's say it were a window, but big enough to crawl through, would that be ok? That is a really small modification if you ask me.
I remember Bungie did a big article on how some of their employees came to work there and stuff. It was pretty cool. Most of them involved luck though. They also said that a Fine Arts degree from a four year university is almost a requirement to do any design or art-related work in the industry today. In four years I'll at least be that far!
I do know what you mean, Kasberg. I have two huge windows who's borders stick slightly into the walls on either side, and the faces that the model sticks into are very dark. Now I can either adjust the brushes, and demolish what sense of symetry my pathetic building has, or do that info_lighting trick. What is that?
Are there any performance ramifications to having parts of a model inside a brush? What about a brush cutting into a displacement? A model in a displacement?
Uh, when was the last time you (Jahzel) did something mapping related, or gave advice or helped someone with a mapping problem? Or talked about mapping? This IS a mapping site, after all. Obviously its fun to talk about other stuff, but come on.
One i came up with one day is that the universe is actually one of an infinite number that are like the "molicules" of an even bigger one. Think about it, planets and solar systems are like atoms!
I started mapping for source, now that I have a computer that can run it well. I noticed in Hammer, when I hold down shift to rotate an object, it doesn't rotate in the 15 degree intervals, it rotates freely. Is that "shift" rotate trick only in the old Hammer?
