You should be using something like Photoshop (expensive) or GIMP (free) to make textures. Wally isn't much better than plain ol' mspaint when it comes to image editing. There's plenty of tutorials on creating seamless textures for both of those apps, Google it.

Are you sure Muzz doesn't mind you linking to a rather large piece of warez hosted on his site in an article that'll probably be read by quite a few people?

As for the tutorial, you didn't really explain any of the code at all. Just saying "paste this here and that there" doesn't really help anyone, imho.

If you really wanna get it to run as fast as possible you could generate a batch file to compile with and run it after rebooting in safe mode, although you should probably just try optimizing your map. Also, I'm pretty sure your graphics card has nothing to do with compile times. :P

For the client dll, open up cl_dll.dsw, which is in Single-Player Source/cl_dll. Everything is the same, except when you compile the new dll it will be placed in Single-Player Source/cl_dll/Debug.

If you're using MSVC 6, open up hl.dsw, which is in Single-Player Source/dlls. On the left you'll see a listing of all the files in the project. When you wanna compile the dll, make sure everything is saved and hit F7, which builds the project. It'll take a while since there's a shitload of stuff to compile; when it's done there should be a new dll in Single-Player Source/dlls/Profilehl. Copy that to your mods dlls folder.

If you want the dll to automatically be placed in your mods folder when you compile, in the menu go to Project -> Settings -> "General" tab. Under both "Intermediate files" and "Output files" put the full path to your mods dlls folder.
